Absolutely incredible collection of ancient mechanisms and artifacts! Beautiful array of objects for reference. My partner and I took lots of photos for a project were working on. This was way better than any Google or Pinterest search we couldve done looking for similar items

A great place to visit while youre in the Harvard or cambridge area. Its one of the few places that allow you to enter for free. Its not big probably the size of 2 classrooms but its packed with interesting instruments that have defined the knowledge we now take for granted.

Weve come a long way. The Collection of Scientific and Medical Instruments is compact, but still provides a stunning visual foundation for how far weve come in our ability to see within ourselves and to see out to the stars. There are examples of early telescopes and microscopes. There is old-time auditory testing equipment side by side with electric lighting from another era. The exhibit features a Grandfather-type clock that was used to sync time over telegraph wires before it was possible anywhere else. Dont overlook the early Dr. Frankenstein MRI machine. Not a great place for chronologically young children, but wonderful for the wondering child in the rest of us.

The H Scientific Museum is a hidden treasure. It is absolutely worth visiting. It is easy to get to, free and fairly small. A half hour might be an average visit, though one can take a few hours getting in to some of the substantive exhibits. The Science Center at Harbard also has a great and inexpensive dining place.

Truly unlike anything I have ever seen. If you enjoy science, you owe it to yourself to visit at some point if you ever find yourself in the area.

Hidden gem with short hours. Not really a destination in itself, but if youre on campus or going to the nearby Peabody or Natural History Museums, add this to your visit. A small museum tucked inside the Science Center - just inside the Oxford Street entrance. Only open 11-4pm and closed on Saturdays. It will take you an hour to look around, max, but some of the displays are amazing and well worth the stop. Scientific tools from 1400-modern day. Ancient models of the cosmos with early computers and experiments with lasers. Theres something for every geek. Youll need to leave large bags at the front desk because the museum is small and they dont want bags bumping the pieces. Best way to see the place is to use Waywiser (see museum website) for more details on particular pieces while youre there.

I have been wanting to go inside for a long time and got my chance today! There are a lot of historical, unique, interesting, and really incredible scientific tools on display. It was great to see the beginnings of some amazing advances in the science field.

Boring museum that could be great. Because many of the instruments are so unusual, explanations of what they do are critical. The problem is that the explanations are often not next to the instrument requiring you to connect a letter on the explanation with a letter on the instrument. Many of the instruments move to work but because the display is static, its hard to know how they do their job.And to add to that, the instruments are closely packed together making the whole experience cramped. We were quite disappointed.

Friendly informative staff. No bags or drinks in the gallery. They have a place for you to leave them. Be sure to stop by and see scientific items from the 1400s free to public!

The collection is wonderful and it would be great to have it expanded to the full size museum with no Do not touch notes.

This is a hidden gem, you can feel the history in the air, I might be a little biased but should pop in if nearby, wont take too long as its pretty small, no entrance fee.

Small Harvard University museum specializing in scientific instruments used by the staff, from the 18th century onward. There are some excellent pieces, but the cramped layout of the museum does not lend itself to appreciating most of them well. The museum does not receive many visitors, so the staff always seem a little surprised when contacted or when visitors stop by. 30 minutes is sufficient for most visitors. Free admission. Parking is always a challenge in Harvard Square, but this is a short walk from the MBTA red line Harvard subway station.

Plenty of instruments from the last 200 years with a lot of additional information to most of them, for free! I needed 4 hours to see everything in detail. It is also accessible with a stroller.
