Central Square Theater is always putting on unique and thoughtful productions. Each production has its own style and the actors are always great! I recently saw Cloud 9 and Black Odyssey here and both productions had exceptional acting and great storytelling. I highly recommend seeing a show here!

A theater in the heart of Central Square in Cambridge MA. The area has a cool college and urban vibe.I have only worked at the theater as a professional photographer, capturing images of theatrical performances. The space is relaxed and has multiple theaters.

Central Square Theater is a vital resource for the arts in the larger Boston area. Thank you for providing such outstanding performances. ($5.00 validated parking available at University Park at the MIT Garage. Just a one-minute walk from the MBTA red line Central subway station.)

I saw the production of The Crucible here on September 17, 2019, and was confused. Was the director trying to be funny? The characters, particularly Reverand Hale, dressed in a costume circa 1950, ala Book of Mormon, tried hard to get laughs. The female characters, on the other hand, depicted their characters seriously and wore traditional puritan attire. Character changes were awkward, with Betty the bewitched child abruptly turning into adult Elizabeth Proctor with no costume change and hair tumbling over, distracting the actor. She lacked any of the passion for her husband John Proctor, which is a central part of her character in the play. Abigail was convincing, as was John. They had some good chemistry. Several actors stood posed on stage when not in the scene, which I found distracting. Once they started chanting and screaming, which completely overwhelmed the action in the scene. It was also unclear whether the actors were in character when they came around to the audience to shake our hands at the start of the play. Maybe they could introduce themselves in character? Otherwise it feels like dinner theater where the actors serve you dinner and chat you up before they perform. One said to me thank you for coming, while shaking my hand and looking very serious. I replied thank you for acting. Too many gimics for me. Good acting is enough, when theres enough of it.

Different experience than most theaters. The stage is in the middle and actors are very interactive. They do not use large props and scenes however are very creative using much less. I was very impressed with their talent and loved the show, a Christmas Carol.

The venue itself is very good. In every performance, the seat arrangement is so good, that no matter where you seat, you never feel like you didnt have a good seat.Service is very good, the art outside of the stage is welcoming and inspiring. The performances themselves, it really depends. I have seen from brilliant works to regretting that I went to see another work.

Small theater (a bit under 200 seats). Casts are professional, emphasizing local/regional talent, with few marquee names. Plays tend to be somewhat challenging in form or content, but not severely experimental (partnership with MIT means that a fair number of plays in the last couple of seasons have featured science or scientists). Offers student discounts. Very convenient public transit access via MBTA Red Line to Central Square (about 1 block walk).

I LOVED everything except bathroom! Both bathrooms with multiple stalls are unisex? Who wants to be in the bathroom next to your great friend of the opposite sex? Or next to yoir future son in law. Or how about next to your very own husband. Or how about my 16 yer old in the bathroom with some guys,,,not reallyThe show was great, bigh quality. No unisex bathrooms with multiple stalls. Way unreasonable.
