Resaca De LA Palma State Park is beautiful! We went on a hot Saturday in September and it was still very warm. We had quite a bit of rain weeks back and everything in the park was green and pretty. The only problem was the mosquitoes. There were a ton of them! We used deet free mosquito repellant, but still got bit. Other than that the park is clean, quiet, and very pretty. I would love to visit when its cooler outside. I really liked the views!

Great variety in habitat and local wildlife. We saw lots of birds, including scissortail flycatchers, little blue herons, and great kiskadees. Also ran across a rough green snake and a couple cottontails. Tram tour was very interesting and informative. Wear mosquito spray on the trails or prepare to be eaten alive.

We had an exciting adventure of nature walk. Just my son and I. BUT, SOMETHING happened to me (the DAD). Ill tell you later! This place has a charge or donation fee. I believe its $4 starting at age 14 or 16 years old and older, 12 or 14 years old free admission.Therere choices to choose from nature walk; 1. renting bikes 2. walking 3. Take the shuttle ride tour. The trail are long and cuts off from the path. We are in the summer heat so you will sweat alot.Lots of thing to watch out for so be extra careful. Follow all rules and signs to the letter! You been WARN.Our most fun part were looking for signs of animal track and determine what kind of animal would make those tracks. This is a bird watch habitual with other wild life around.I wish i can tell you more but you need to come by and EXPERIENCE this nature walk the hiking grounds.Anyways, I couldnt walk any further because I wasnt prepare for this hiking nature walk. I suffer from back pain problems to knee pain. My knees were hurting so much that I had to make the call to be picked up (shuttle van)in the nature trial. We were rescued. Ive told them therere my heros. Two volunteer rangers helper found us and gave us a tour. That was awesome of them.Things you might consider to take;Packback, water, small snack(do not litter)pocket knive, towels for the over sweating. And like always, enjoy at your own risk!

Spectacular up close views of the nature that surrounds Brownsville TX. The tram your through this place was such a pleasant educational treat. We got to borrow binoculars from the park attendants on the tram which was so kind of them. Jog, walk, hike, bike, fish, observe, photograph, relax, enjoy. There are many different types of activities and events held here even late in the evening. The cool part is it is very inexpensive! 2 adults and 3 kids was less than $10 for the entire day including parking. You can purchase National Park annual passes for like $70 at the visitors center/ main building which has a small gift shop. Remember to apply sunscreen and bringing of drinking water.

This place is beautiful and the staff is very nice. A lot of trails to walk as well. The biggest issue with this place, and I know I cant take off stars because not much can be done, is the amount of mosquitoes that you can run into on a hot and humid day. I strongly suggest you take repellent or there is a good chance you wont be able to stand it. Other than that I love coming here and I could easily spend hours walking around this area on a cool day. also Im a photographer and I highly recommend this area for some cool pictures.

This is a terrific place to visit to see nature. I would suggest going anytime but the middle of summer like we did. The heat at times is unbearable. There is much to see here and a lot of diversity. Im sure it will be so much better in cooler weather so we will be sure to come back. If you like birds there should be many here during migration and when the Resacas are full of water. When we were there they were all dry or almost dry. In spite of the weather we did see quite a few birds and some of the rarer ones that come up from Mexico. There are also hundreds of Butterflies that you see everywhere you look. They have some great trails to walk and you can also rent bikes to ride on them. There is a tram that takes you around the park. Its about a 3 mile loop and costs $4. The driver is very knowledgeable about the area and will give you details about the flora and fauna all around. There is a very well stocked and nice gift shop inside and very clean restrooms.

A wonderful park with history, culture and of course, wildlife. One of the few state and federal parks of decent size and acreage in the valley aside from the coastal parks. Best birding of the WBC sites by far. And truly the only one of those sites (with the exception of Estero llano grande) that allows you to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the river delta region. The historial resacas provide a glimpse to the distant past when water roamed unchecked during floods. Takes several hours to enjoy thoroughly and do not shy away from the back trails. You will be rewarded.

From Expressway 77/83, exit at Olmito, take FM 1732 west, follow for 2.5 miles; turn left (south) at New Carmen Ave.; follow for 1.5 mile; just south of the railroad tracks turn left to enter the World Birding Center Resaca de la Palma State Park.

The park is fine. But the road to it off US 281/Military Highway is a disaster! Yeah, you can enter from the other side, but why should visitors have to go the long way around to do that? And if you live off US 281, it makes more sense to enter from that road. If you have a tank you might negotiate the axle breaking potholes---SINKHOLES!---better. Otherwise be prepared for serious repairs for wheel alignments, balancing, front end alignment or possible axle breakage. This is a monstrosity!
