Coolidge Corner Theatre promotes rare films and offers some film classes, which makes it an institution more valuable than other theatres still in operation. My only objection is that they temporarily blocked me on Instagram, when I complained about their promotion of the film Totally Under Control two weeks before the election. I rightly noted it is a propaganda film designed to identify a strawman and convey to audiences that one political party is on the side of truth and justice.

Friggin love this theater. Easy parking, though it is paid depending on what time you get there. They tend to show movies that arent playing elsewhere as well as some quirky stuff that I didnt even know existed. For example, an ad for Cat Video Fest was posted in the theater and shown before the trailers started which seemed like a fun hour or so. They do serve alcohol in the lobby that you can bring into the movie theater, which as a non-drinker Im not a fan of, though Im sure most people would find fun. Ive never eaten from the snack bar but they definitely have the normal snacks as far as I can tell. There is a CVS next door if you want to purchase your own snacks - though beware as I dont know what their policy is for bringing outside food. Lots of nice restaurants around for grabbing a meal before or after the movie. Usually a homeless person is around this area in the evenings, so bring some spare cash or whatever if youre in a generous mood. Overall, safe feeling atmosphere as long as youre with a friend - as is true for most places in a city (coming from a female).

A great local theater! Staff is friendly and the popcorn is tasty. They have a great selection of movies that usually don’t get screened at the chain theaters. Their best feature is the various special programs and events they hold throughout the year. My favorites are the midnight movies they show every Friday and Saturday night. The selection of movies for each month is usually based on a specific theme or genre. The theater itself is also gorgeous and well maintained. If you have the chance to see a movie here, do it!

What a classic place near and dear to most Bostonian hearts!! I love coming here every now and then for the nostalgic movie theatre feel. They are also always playing great independent films. It’s not like most theaters with the sexy new and modern reclining seats and no one is going to bring you food. You come here for the historic feel (it’s been around since 1933 I believe) and the quality independent films. They also do fun midnight classic movie premieres! If you’re a movie buff, you have to go here!

The prices are usually cheaper than other movie theaters, and there are great movies to choose from. They have a selection of new movies, and old movies which they show some nights. They also have great newly released international movies. The seats are comfortable, and has a nice vintage feel. It’s a nonprofit theater and a great place to support by going to watch movies here. I would definitely go here more often if I lived in the area.

A neighborhood (and regional) gem in the heart of Coolidge Corner/Brookline. A beautiful old movie theater. The main theater space has great historic detail. The programming is always diverse, well thought out, and very well done. I love the events where a live band/musician scores a film. The kid events have been a huge hit. Midnight movies are always fun and they still bring through all the current films as well. Happy to be a member and support such a great institution.

One of the best theaters in the city. The staff is super friendly, and the place oozing with charm. They have great programs and play some of the best cult classics during their after midnight program. One of the few places in the city that has the ability to play movies in 70mm film. Grab a slice and a beer at Otto, then catch a great movie at the Coolidge!

A unique Art Deco independent Theatre in the heart of Coolidge Corner - a treasured local landmark. They often have rare screenings of independent films and documentaries, many with introductions from the producers themselves. There is a little bar and concession counter inside, and the larger theaters are in a renovated opera style house. Gorgeous!

Crowning jewel of Coolidge Corner. Play offbeat indie movies plus re-runs of classics, serve beer/wine, lotta great food options nearby so the old school tandem of dinner and a movie can easily make for an enjoyable night. Had a horrible experience at Coolidge recently. After entering the theater there was popcorn all over the floor and the seats were disgusting! Gum and spilled drinks and a rotten smell. Clearly no one cleans up around here and on top of that the staff was incredibly unhelpful and rude. Obviously the employees must be treated like dirt because that is how they act to us. There are 2 things they can do to really fix upon my terrible experience.1. Renovate the god damn seats and clean up your theater!2. Hire staff that are actually respectful adults and not whiny miserable kids!

What a fantastic gem of a cinema. The people working there seem to care about the movies, the main cinema is absolutely beautiful, the old-fashioned spots before the film gets you in the mood perfectly, no commecercials, just two trailers and the movie starts.Looking at their program, they also screens amazing classic movies and have cool events. I love this theatre! From the snazzy interior to the comfortable seats, the unadorned movie viewing experience is a joy itself. But wait, there are wonderful accoutrements to enhance the experience. Would you like a draft beer from a selection of several craft taps to enjoy during the show? Here you can flaunt puritan tradition and scandalously imbibe while gathered in public! Would you like your popcorn buttered with actual butter instead of butter flavored soy oil? Gotcha covered. Would you like to see some of cinemas classic back catalog? Here it is. Would you like to see some off the beaten path modern films alongside the regular blockbusters? Youve found the spot. Enjoy.

I wish i didnt have to post a negative review as Ive lived in the neighborhood for years and always thought highly of this cool art deco indy theater. But I had a really bad experience with a few ticket sellers. I was so psyched to see Echo In the Canyon a few weeks ago. But when I got upstairs, the Gold Theatre was almost full with only seats in the front row. To me, that is not at ALL a comfortable seat for watching a film - way too close! I left almost immediately and explained. My ticket was refunded, albeit with a dismissive scowl.. A few weeks later (tonight) I noticed that there was no record of the refund on my bank statement. Id kept the refund receipt, so I returned to your theatre and asked about it. Apparently I was mistaken and the ticket was refunded. (The transaction wasnt recorded, and thats why I was mistaken.. honest mistake) .The thing is, I really think your ticket vendors should be aware when the theatre is so full that seating like that is all that is available - I mean i had no idea it was a tiny theatre that would be full like that - I would not have spent 14 bucks for that. I did let the one of your ticket sellers know that this is how I felt. He said something like we dont know what seats are left, there were seats, and all we can do is refund you if you dont like it. People sit in those (front row) seats all the time.. Im pretty surprised that this is so.. It seems unreasonable to me, but I guess you dont think so. Agree to disagree..The thing of it is, the ticket seller was arrogant and condescending. And Im not someone who complains often, and I am polite. If he had maybe just said something like Im sorry it didnt work for you.., or showed even a little bit of interest or care, I wouldnt feel like I have to sit here and write this now lengthy remark. At all. I mean this is the first time Ive done this. But he made me feel badly.Coolidge Corner Theater is so well regarded and interesting and cool. But that doesnt mean your staff is above treating patrons kindly and with respect. I feel like some of them feel that they are. The guy who I talked to probably thinks he was perfectly nice, and the girl sitting next to him, who glared at me as well. Arrogant people often do feel blameless. Theyre so into themselves they dont see the person who is talking to them.. I get that they have to sell a lot of tickets quickly, maybe he was tired... It just left me with a bad feeling, it really did. I hope you will take note of this. I mean you get tons of great reviews.. Im one of the many people who have (up until now) often sung your praises I hope my bad feelings go away and Ill want to go to another film there (Ive been to films before and it was all good).

The Coolidge Corner Theater is a legendary facility. It has a number of screens ranging from the grand theater from the Golden Age of films to intimate and casual screens with a dozen or two seats. While some mainstream films are presented, there are so many more from indie sources that would never be seen in the Boston area without the Coolidge. Even though some of the facility is well worn, it is imbued with a history that cant be acquired, but has to be lived, as the Coolidge and its patrons have done. Good discounts, online ticketing and a pretty good snack bar only adds to its charm.
