We just finished up a private self-defense class with Mark & Kelli and it was such an invaluable experience. My friend & I both have two teenage daughters, the oldest of whom will be heading to college soon, so we both wanted to give them the techniques & skills necessary to defend themselves in a real life situation. First, Mark clearly has a deep knowledge of what he is teaching, is passionate about you not becoming a statistic, and is wonderful at communicating how to not live in a fear based mindset, however be able to identify dangerous situations when they occur and react accordingly. One aspect I really appreciated was that he kept the moves simple, yet effective, rather than complicated techniques that you may forget while in the heat of the moment. He was extremely considerate in wanting to know our expectations & making sure we walked away from the class feeling empowered. We enjoyed the class so much we plan to go back for a refresher in a few months to build upon the moves & concepts Mark & Kelli taught us. I feel this is a must class for all women & teenage girls. You will never regret taking a self-defense class, however you may regret NOT taking it.Thank You Mark & Kelli!

My 6 year old son has been coming here for over a month now and he loves coming. Instructor Mark is always happy and works with the kids wonderfully. The kids get to have fun the whole time while learning valuable skills while still learning discipline.

I enjoy training at Brookings TaeKwonDo. I also enjoy the opportunities Taekwondo has given me, such as competing in different states. I have competed in Kansas, Nevada, Wisconsin, and many other states. I am grateful to be able to compete at higher levels such as state and national competitions. In addition to that I have been able to have access to training camps and other Taekwondo seminars, with coaches such as Olympian and AAU National Coach, Juan Moreno and Olympian Stephen Lambdin. Also I enjoy training with other athletes and getting new knowledge that will help me in the future and help me to grow as a person as well. Taekwondo has given me access to these amazing opportunities. I also enjoy meeting new people through Taekwondo. The people I have met are athletes from other schools , various instructors, my teammates and coach on the competition team. My coach Mark and his wife Kelli have helped me to develop as an athlete over the years I have been training. The people on my competition team are absolutely amazing and I would recommend trying out Brookings Taekwondo.

Can not say enough great things about this place! Had my sons 8th birthday party, and it was a complete success. It was structured and the kids loved it! All I had to do was take pictures! The instructors were enthusiastic, caring, and handled all the crazy kids like pros! My kids already want to go back! Highly recommended.

I have been a student at Brookings Tae Kwon Do for many years now. I was previously in another school that I loved but due to moving could no longer attend. I tried several different schools before finding a home at Brookings TKD. The other schools lacked the family environment that both my previous school and Brookings TKD offer. They were simply business trying to make as much money as possible. Brookings TKD is a family. Each and every student has a place in our family regardless of skill level, race, orientation, physical/mental issue, religion or any other outside factor. We teach respect, honor. discipline and self confidence. We train leaders. Oftentimes we will put a younger student in charge for a warm up just to see how he/she handles the group as a whole. This helps build not only their leadership skills but their self confidence as well. I could write a book about what martial arts has done for me as a person but will stop here. I recommend Brookings Tae Kwon Do to everyone. It is a fantastic school with great opportunities

I have been a member of Brookings Taekwondo since 2014. I was looking for a martial art class that has strong family value orientation towards teaching self-defense skills to young kids and grownups. During the July 4th parade I observed Mr. Anawski and his float full of enthusiastic kids and grownups in their uniforms wearing different colored belts. I was pleasantly surprised to see them being fit, full of energy, being respectful and courteous with each other and with the spectators. Later when I communicated with Mr. Anawski, I got an invitation to visit his class and participate before making the decision to join the class. I went with my then 6-year-old daughter. Since then each day at Brookings Taekwondo has been great learning experience. Mr Anawski is a passionate instructor and he loves to work with every age group. He is excellent in classroom management, teaching techniques, and motivating the little kids and adults alike. I have observed him several times going above and beyond his role as an instructor in caring for his students. I had the opportunity to visit many martial arts classes in Asia, Europe, and the USA. However, I can say one thing with utmost confidence that if a child is trained by Mr and Mrs Anawski s/he will be best trained in taekwondo and will be a respectful and a responsible citizen. Mr Anawski takes time to explain the martial arts techniques and the safety associated with the field. He teaches the practice of art and also helps his students understand the safety aspects of taekwondo for a responsible self-defense. His teaching style reflects his care, concern and compassion every step of the way. The culture, character, and value of any place is reflected in how its people conduct themselves outside in an unfamiliar place. Brookings Taekwondos culture, character and values are reflected through the students who display a positive attitude and respect outside the class too. When we joined Mr. and Mrs. Anawski, they use to conduct summer classes at the city hall and at Medary elementary during the school year. Their dedication can be understood from the fact that they would bring all the taekwondo gears every day just so that students dont have to practice without gears. Imagine carrying gears each day! I am glad that now the Anawski’s have their own school/ dojang to train students for self-defense. Their commitment and devotion to martial arts reflects in the hardships they go through each day to make sure that students receive a high-quality training. At Brookings Takewondo, several learning opportunities are offered to the students of all age groups. For example, Mr. Anawski will ask students to run a part of his session, thus offering younger students an opportunity to lead the whole class that includes adults too. It is amazing to see the little ones taking a leadership role and doing it with enthusiasm, energy and confidence. Mr. Anawski frequently seeks student inputs on skills and techniques of peers and instructors, thus allowing an open discussion on martial arts - the difficulty of doing it first time, how to improve, precautions to take while practicing and using it in different situations. He creates an environment of support, teamwork and collaboration. Mr Anawski brings much energy to his class and shares his enthusiasm for the art with his students. No matter how tired and moody a student may be walking into the class, they all walk out full of energy and mile-wide smiles on their faces. Words are not enough to describe all the great things that happen at this dojang. Despite a full time, job, and martial arts training school, Mr. Anawski takes time to serve the community. He provides training to several organizations - ROTC, air force, and the police department. I have found Mr. Anawski to be very humble and polite. He is a 6th degree black belt (6th Dan) in taekwondo. Moreover, he also holds additional black belts in other martial arts (its like holding multiple PhDs). Overall, I will rate this as a top 1 martial arts training school.

Overall the facility is kind of good. Instructor is very chatty and spends most class time talking about boring stuff. He needs to teach us the moves. I don’t feel I have learned much, we keep doing the old stuff over and over again. When is he going to teach us new things? My cousin goes to a different Taekwondo school in another town and seems they know much more than me though I have been learning this thing for a longer time. The class seems to go well on days when Brian teaches it. I kind of feel I am learning something or improving my skills with Brian. Other days it’s just kids teaching kids. People who have no clue stand up and pretend teach. I paid to be taught by real instructor and not by other kids my age. Instructor does very little teaching, if you go to this school it will be mostly other kids teaching you. Go figure! the instructor allows anyone to talk and interrupt the class. There is no discipline. there is nothing in this class that you cannot learn through youtube videos on your own, some people actually just show up for testing, guess where they learn their stuff from!!!
