A really amazing piece of history, with a well set up self guided tour. Went with my kids aged between 8 and 15 and they were all entertained for hours while we walked around. The experience was made even better by having veterans on board to talk about thier experiences on board that very vessel. Slightly more expensive than I expected, but I can appreciate the cost just to keep it floating.

This destroyer is very well maintained. I was able to explore almost the entire ship, 90%. I only wish there would have been a tour guide. It is difficult to photograph all the ship has to offer while reading the guide and trying to figure out what is what. However, I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity. I was in Bremerton to recreate a photograph my Granddaddy took as his ship navigated Puget Sound. I am eternally grateful to all those people who maintain the USS Turner Joy!

Absolutely one of the highlights of our trip from the UK to Seattle and the wider area. So much to see and take in, so definitely allow plenty of time to enjoy your visit. We really appreciated that we were able to explore the entire ship at our own pace and without any restrictions. We took the ferry back to Seattle, which was a great way to end a day of exploring.

An enduring part of American history, this ship turned museum is almost completely accessable, I think the only place you cant enter is the lowest deck. All others areas are open to view, even if you have to appreciate it on the other side of a chain. Your can climb ladders down from the main deck, or climb to the bridge level. Stand on the front of the how to appreciate the view of the ship.

I love that they let you explore almost the entire ship on your own. You get to climb inside the guns, look into the extensive mechanical rooms below deck, see where the men slept and ate, look out from the bridge and many more. It feels like a time capsule. We spent 2 hours just exploring. We came early on a summer Saturday and it was not crowded.

If youre looking for an adventure in history, this is the place to visit. Roaming around the ship on a self guided tour is a great way to kill a few hours and imagine yourself living and working on the ship back in the day of its active years. Volunteer tour guides can explain specific areas in detail. The Gift Shop has great memorabilia for retired service members and those currently serving along with some great kids toys.

A worthwhile tour. There are audio boxes in certain places that you can press to get more information about the area. For a Naval vessel that served in the Vietnam war, most of the equipment still works and they have a working coffee machine in the mess hall as well. Most of the sections of the ship are closed off, but dont worry, I would still get lost most of the time. This really makes me think about how big a aircraft carrier is since the USS Turner Joy is just a Naval destroyer.I really hope you dont encounter this but one of the staff must have forgot to re block a restricted area as it looks like the staff live in the ship as well. I found a modem connected to a HP Laptop in the restricted area they forgot to block off.I have a lot of more pictures but I have refrained from posting it because its really great if you enjoy it yourselves!

My family really enjoyed the self guided tour of the USS Turner Joy Destroyer. There are very few places on the ship that are off limits, giving you (and the kiddos) access to some really cool stuff (like the big gun turrets and radar room). Having been in the Navy myself stationed on the USS America CVN-66. It was fun sharing with my kids this experience. Go Navy

Great access and detailed signs to guide you. I lucked out and got one of the tin can sailors to show me around. At first I thought it cost a lot to go on a ship and walk around, but wow! There is a ton to see. The best part is they have almost everything open for the kids to touch and play on! Most museums like this get nervous about kids, but one of the docents was telling us about party of the ship and didnt even bat an eye as my nephew started turning dials in the wall while he was talking. We spent at least 2.5 hours here and the kids would have stayed to play their games there longer.

This is a great place to visit! Loaded with history and a fun way to experience being on a ship. My 3- year old did okay getting around, but if you have issues with climbing up and down, or being in tight spaces, this may not be worth going to. It is a great visit but.......beware of the musty smell if you have allergies. There are only a couple of decks that are viewable, unless you can climb very steep steps with chains to hold onto, my 11 year old son wouldnt go down. It would have also been nice to have a better map and signs in each area showing what it was for, they had some signs in some places....but had to guess in others. I feel like we missed part of the ship because it was a little confusing for a land person. It was over very priced in my opinion.

This place is awesome. Its set up pretty much the way it was when it was in action with the exception of some information placards. The tour is self guided so you can wander around and take as much of as little time as you want. We had three kids under 7 and they did fine. Strollers and people who have a hard time going up and down extremely steep stairs wont be able to see the bridge or below deck areas.
