This is quite the photogenic museum. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing the palace which can easily see in the pictures. There was great accessibility to information by the touch of your device to learn about each room/area. I highly recommend adding this to your list of destinations to visit when in Boston or saving something for a rainy day. I will surely return for future visits!!

This is a good place with interesting items, but the people at the entrance are not very polite and do not quite understand the meaning of using a mask during quarantine time, we were not wearing standard masks and we were denied entry. they wanted to force us to buy masks in their store and did not let us in. although inside they sell masks made of the same fabric as we had. fortunately, we took with us a standard mask and went inside. this disgustingly spoiled our mood for the entire period of our stay here.

Beautiful Instagram place️ Make sure that you have fabric mask with you cause if you have face shield or scarf -it’s not gonna work. Also you can buy ticket only online.

This is a really lovely museum. Most of the exhibits were a part of one large castle like building which was beautiful itself in addition to the many pieces inside. The curatorial team has chosen to put varying kinds of art alongside each other, i.e. paintings and sculptures along side each other. There is a nice outdoor area as well. When I visited, the other traveling exhibits were not open which was disappointing but nevertheless, my friend and I enjoyed our time there thoroughly. You can’t take bags but they have a free locker system which is safe and clean. Also the bathrooms are jazzy and nice.

I love it here. I think it’s the perfect place in Boston to clear your head. It’s so peaceful. The energy and love that Isabella put into creating and curating this place is still felt so purely. It radiates throughout all the spaces. It’s my favorite place to spend an hour reading and they’re doing such a good job during Covid to give people space and maintain its true atmosphere. Highly recommend for visitors and locals alike.

Isabella Stewart Gardners collection is rivaled only by the Museum of Fine arts in Boston museums. The art is great, they have many events (went to a very nice concert here), and its laid out very well. The cafe is pricey and has very high-end food, so unless thats really your thing Id recommend eating elsewhere, especially if you have kids.

The most curious and delightful museum I have ever seen! This collection of art is exhaustive and breathtaking. Please be respectful as the art is predominantly Christian and Anglo-Saxon, there is a sense of mystical reverence throughout. We highly recommend the audio guided tours. The whole museum was a 3-hour adventure and we were not very slow. I could have spent all day there. We will be returning!

This is a place i would never have wanted to visit ten or twenty years ago . Im glad my palate has opened to the arts . The I.S.G.M. is a more than once place to visit . Exceptionally laid art with Masterpieces it is truly a work of art in itself !

I used my Go City Boston passes to enter the museum for free. Initially, I didnt plan to come here, yet Im glad I did. On Thursdays, the museum is open for a bit longer than usual, up to 9PM rather than the usual 5PM, which I was so grateful for!As such, since I didnt do much research on the museum prior. I just made a reservation while traveling to the museum, and I was lucky they had a few spots left.Despite COVID, the museum is still somewhat full of people. Yet, I was the only one who was given a locker that day (they dont allow large bags, probably because they dont want another heist ).Upon entrance, I went up to view the exhibit on the second floor, and thiught that the exhibit was the entire museum. It took a bit of time for me to see the corridors that access the beautiful garden and 2-story exhibit on the opposite side of the entrance!And it was beautiful! Unfortunately, my battery was running low when I had arrived (hence the low quality images), yet every collection was amazing to look at, each getting better with every floor. At its center, you could always view the beautiful garden that looks absolutely maintained! Do note, Ms. Gardners handwriting is also amazing haha.I think that my experience would have been better had I been able to use my phone to listen to the virtual tour. And the extremely high amount of security, although somewhat necessary, just ruined some of the atmosphere. Breathtakingly gorgeous artwork. The building is a piece of art in itself. I spent about 2 hours here. I overlooked this place for years but it really is worth a trip, and was only $15 to get in.

I dont typically enjoy art museums so take this with a grain of salt. Pretty paintings and decor mainly from the Venetian era. I would loved to have looked closer at the items, but the museum has employees constantly observe you so you dont damage the items. I got in free with my college ID so I cannot comment on the pricing.

To see these works up close and to just try and understand and digest what I was seeing was an exciting challenge. The amount of items on display is extremely impressive. Although the exhibits are mostly Italian, there are a number of other works such as items from Japan, from Sudan, and many other locations.The one con is that nearly information was only available by using a cell phone and scanning a QR code. I wasn’t given an option for using an audio device, and had not known about it, but this is important to know. Due to this, I was left with asking staff questions on certain items I didn’t understand and tried to figure out information on stuff on my own— which wasn’t a bad style but I believed I missed out on a lot of information.Kudos to Isabella Stewart Gardner and to all those that made this museum possible.

Unfortunately I cant weigh in on the price because somebody else bought my ticket for me, but it was a good time. You can listen by scanning QR codes, and if you do it would probably take a lot longer, but if you just want to walk through, it takes about one and a half to two hours. I did very little listening but it was still very enjoyable to just browse through casually.

A great place to spend 3 relaxing hours. Beautiful courtyard and elegant mansion housing wonderful collection of paintings and artifacts. The setting gives people a sense of intimacy like looking into Mrs Gardners treasure chest. Pity for the stolen masterpieces...

Very nice scenery! The main building was very confusing. The map directed there was art pieces on the third and fourth floor but there were not. If you’re someone who likes taking pictures, there is a lot of great photo ops such as the balcony.

Great museum experience if you want to just fly through and absorb the material and learn about the details later this is a great way to do it. Very impressed with all the painting statues and furniture in this place it was all amazing and worth every minute.

A hidden gem in Boston. It is so pretty that takes your breath away. The collection of art is huge and this place is definitely worth visiting. The architecture intertwines with the garden and becomes an art itself. Stunning!

Pretty art museum, especially the courtyard with statues. However they have absolutely no signs or labels, only a QR code in each room to scan and find a guide. This purely electronic system is a huge hastle, and completely useless if your phone is dead or youre bad with technology. It felt pretentious, even for an art museum.There are also creepy security guards in every room who stare at you constantly and yell at you if you even stand close to the art. I understand the things are valuable and need protecting, but the guards really detract from the experience and made me uncomfortable.

Simply the most beautiful museum in Boston, if not on the whole of the East Coast. The vast and impressive collection of European and Asian art from the Renaissance to the late 1800’s, acquired by Mrs Isabella Stewart Gardener herself during her lifetime, reflects her sophisticated taste and exquisite eye. The Venetian-style palace housing Mrs Gardener’s collection is an immersive art experience all in itself. The court yard features a beautiful Roman mosaic floor and many enchanting garden sculptures. It also serves as indoor garden space to a wide range of rare plants. The museum has a wonderful restaurant and library seating lounge. Music performances are scheduled throughout the year. Don’t miss this amazing collection while visiting in Boston.

This is a must visit if you are into art museums and are in Boston. Dont underestimate it because of it being a private collection. It has some of the best artworks even comparing with big famous art museums. And including, in my opion, the best work from J S Sargent.It also has one of the most beautiful courtyard that will take your breath away when you enter.Also, remember to eat at their cafe! The food was delicious!!!!!!!

Hands down the most beautiful museum Ive ever visited in the United States. The collection was amazing but the building is what makes this place so beautiful and unique. A must see for anyone visiting or even if youre a local.

This museum is truly an aesthetic, historically rich experience. I spent two hours in the Spanish cloister just taking in the architectural beauty. I’ve visited multiple times and the staff have been utterly delightful and welcoming every time. This is a gem of Boston. Go go go!

What an amazing museum! Incredible art, history and architecture. Thankful a friend recommended it or I never would have known about it. Gorgeous enclosed center courtyard, the building just drips with rich history and glamour from the time period. Takes 1-2 hours to visit, if you read the reusable cards provided in each room for details of the art surrounding you. Reasonable admission price if $15, discounted if you’re a teacher and free if you have a membership. Worth a visit at any age. Lovely staff, gift shop and cafe.

The museum itself is beautiful, from the gardens to the famous art pieces. So many ornate fireplaces. Definitely a great place to visit and just take in all the art. The cafe was a surprise, was not expecting the menu but it all tasted so good

Absolutely stunning museum. How had I never heard of this place. My whole family love it. Beautiful history and so much to learn here. The gardens were so beautiful. It was very busy so don’t be scared when you see a line wrap around the building. It was about a 30 minute wait. There is a restaurant but it seemed you needed to make reservations or it was a 90 minute wait the day we were there. You could definitely spend the day wandering around, there is so much to see. Great artwork abounds here.

I took my family to the museum, and we were enjoying it a lot, in a beautiful showcase I received information from an employee that I could take off my mask to take the photo. And then we made a beautiful photo. When I got to the garden I wanted to take a picture and I put the mask down as I understood that I could just take the picture. But another one worked by and with a lot of ignorance and being very rude, he shouted pointing at my face that I should put the mask on, I said it was just for the photo and he walked away and shouting that he couldnt even take the mask off, he was very aggressive, uneducated and made me so embarrassed that I quickly took my family and left there almost crying. It was very humiliating and a very bad experience. If you intend to come now where we are in a pandemic, I do not recommend you stop by, as it will not be worth it.

Amazing indoor garden! Very beautiful with many old artifacts! Its a Venetian style palace that was built to be a gallery people only lived on the fourth floor. There are many things from ancient China, Netherlands, Spain, and much more! But I do not recommend for young children since they get scared at the old sculptures and painting due to the old age. Its also pretty chilly even in the late summer!

Definitely worth going to see! The garden is one of a kind, extremely peaceful. There are 3 floors and each room is unique. Reasonable admission fee, pictures with no flash are allowed. The museum provides coat check which really helps when you visit ISG in the winter.

If visiting Boston dont miss this amazing home turned into a museum. You can go through it quickly but dont. Give yourself time, the longer the better! There is so much to see. An amazing woman who spent her life travelling and picking up items of beauty and historical interest. Put together like she wanted it. Cruise through each room taking in every item. Each room has 4 plasticised sheets with descriptions of what is on and against each wall of the room. Pick them up before looking around so you dont miss anything. You will see paintings by Rembrandt, Matisse, Titian and others, letters by politicians, actors and others. Items (even stained glass church windows) from Italy, France, Belgium, Asia. So much art and history in just one house!Read about her story before going or take the half hour free tour included in the ticket price.

Nice collection of European art in a museum with a unfortunate history of a famous art heist. We were told a bit of unique Trivia by the tour guide stating that all art needs to stay exactly the way Isabel set it up. Further if the museum ever sells any of the pieces all proceeds are to go to Harvard University. A good tip is that this free parking on the streets around the museum on Sundays.

Beautiful museum that does a wonderful job of seamlessly integrating the collection with the building and architecture. Be sure to get a tour to understand the history and intention of the museum, it goes a long way to fully appreciating the space and its history. Theres a nice wine bar to help set the atmosphere, and on Thursdays, theres live music in the evenings. Great date night idea!

While the garden is lovely, Id personally suggest to go to another museum if youre intent on seeing art or learning about the pieces. The inside was dark, dingy, cluttered, and lacked information about most paintings or items unless you took the time to scan every room.

Excellent museum with very interesting history and amazing collection of art. The rooms and design of the whole building are amazing in their own way and really add to the experience. Even though it was raining the entire palace including the courtyard was enclosed meaning we were free to explore and enjoy.

In center of the property is a large courtyard and beautiful garden. I honestly could have sat next to the garden for hours. Its hard to really absorb everything in one visit so I will definitely be returning!

This is an absolutely beautiful and inspiring place to visit. I am giving it 3 stars because there are many areas for improvement ; and very easy to implement! (I will be emailing them too). They have someone in every room of the museum. I guess they are the mask police. But what a value-add it would be if those people actually knew what room they were in and could talk about the history of what we, as the visitors, were looking at. They knew nothing. They just stood there. What a waste! I bet their day would go by faster and make it more fun if they could explain the history , etc.So, say that is not possible for whatever reason... where are all the little signs and descriptions of what we are viewing? I know that you can scan a barcode in every room and it tells you “some stuff” on your phone. (That was not well done either. Didn’t tell you about all the pieces in the room). But I don’t want to spend my time in such a beautiful place with my face glued to my phone screen. There is nothing to read about the rooms, the art, the sculptures. We didn’t know if we were looking at tombs or bathtubs. We didn’t know what era or area they came from. We learned absolutely nothing there, unfortunately. So many people working there that just stood there. The lack of information could easily be fixed. ... by people or signs that told you what you were viewing. There seemed to be an audio tour which would have been cool, but we didn’t bring ear buds.I really thought I’d be learning a lot while touring this museum; but that was not the case.

This museum is the legacy of Isabella Stewart Gardner a very wealthy Bohemian who loved collecting rare books, manuscripts and works of art from all over the world including Venice, Egypt and the Middle East. Isabella’s museum was conceived in 1899 - she lived on the 4th floor of this palatial style building and created a private museum in the first three floors filled with ‘beautiful pictures and objects of art for people to come and enjoy’.I really enjoyed the eclectic nature of this museum. The central courtyard is just beautiful and its worth a visit just to admire it from every possible vantage point on each floor.

I was excited to visit but unfortunately was very underwhelmed by it. It gave me vizcaya garden Miami vibes but 1/10th of the experience. Barely any signs to describe what you are viewing...The staff also seemed frazzled about BPL tickets even though it was a Monday and barely any of us in there. Very off putting, I got a ticket through BPL, which I am glad because not worth a full price ticket. I would say pass..

A delight for any art lover, absolutely stunning art museum with wonderful collection of art. Beautiful courtyard and garden, elaborately decorated rooms. Sonic Bloom is a wonderful initiative when random visitors can receive a gift of a song from the professional singer. Unfortunately, we were not a chosen ones, but we enjoyed listening beautiful Schubert songs for several hours we spent in this jewel of a museum. Recommend to use an audio guide, it would enhance your experience.

Really beautiful place, packed with tons of different art objects - some really obscure. The museum itself is quite big and for the price, you do get go see interesting objects from around the world, but at the same time, because so many of the objecta are small, they get lost in the big picture. Isabella herself was a hoarder with tons of money. But hey, at least she left something for all of us to enjoy. It is not expensive at all and its very close (within walking distance) to the Boston Museum of Arts. Must see objective while in town. The inside garden is quite beautiful and while we were there, there were a couple of women singing opera live (they were picking someone randomly and dedicating the song to them).

What a fascinating collection! I lived getting to see historical art and items in a creative and dreamy place. So wonderful that a place like this exists in the city. Everyone I encountered in Boston said that I had to go there. They were absolutely right, it was gorgeous and unique. I would go back again when Im in the area.

By its very nature, the original museum building is a bit cramped, and the necessary low lighting to protect the artwork make it a bit tough to navigate, especially if there are a good number of people there- not show stoppers, but just be prepared to be patient. The newer extension has much more room and traditional museum space and lighting, so an interesting dichotomy between the two. Note: no dedicated parking, so plan accordingly; might suggest using the Boston MFA parking and walking; not far if the weather is good.

AMAZING! absolutely gorgeous in many, many ways!

We absolutely fell in love with the place. The garden in the courtyard, in the middle of the cold winter is a spectacle. I can only imagine what our collector, Ms. Gardener might have envisioned. Going through the collection lit in the candlelight, akin to how Ms. Gardener would have imagined it, is absolutely breathtaking. I havent seen such depth in placement of pieces, its like continuously trying to fit the puzzle pieces. At the start of the tour, we were introduced to Ms. Gardeners vision through one of a volunteer member. That really helped us connect to the whole collection. Once you know where to start and what to expect, it becomes a treat for the visual senses.

It’s a hidden paradise within the busy city.The garden is so well-preserved, I can stare at it for a whole day.The museum has three floors that are open to visitors. Isabella collected many paintings from famous artists including degas and matisse.Outside the museum, there is a reading room with a yellow bird in it for bird lovers.

Excellent museum. Very peaceful, beautiful art and an even more beautiful garden. I wish this place wasn’t in Boston, because I can’t stand the city, but I would definitely visit again if only to go to this museum. It’s a small place, so you can see everything within a couple hours, but you will likely want to spend more time there to enjoy the beauty and pleasant atmosphere.

This treasure of art was recommended by a family member. Well worth a morning or afternoon of your time looking around. I would also suggest a second visit to really dig into some of its treasures.

I really like the courtyard in Gardner museum although we are not allowed to get into it. The view is beautiful under a sunny day. However, one thing that is not working with me is that it is so cold inside and I caught a headache after visiting. I will definitely bring a coat with me next time to enjoy more of this great museum.

Museum with many types of artworks, from paintings, to sculptures, tapestry. and even the design and decor of each themed room. The perfect place to go for any art lover. 3 floors to view. Take a stop for a bite to eat in the cafe or lounge in the library, both in located in the new wing. Dont forget to stop and learn about the mystery of the stolen paintings from the 90s. Plan to stay 1-3 hours.

Make this a stop, and make sure you set aside enough time to explore. Multiple levels with a fantastic collection, as well as the building itself. One of the best museums Ive been to.

A beautiful and immersive museum to which pictures can do no justice.It offers an indoor courtyard that at mid day is coated with sunlight and is therefore amazing for taking photos. Each room is like its own masterpiece with a story, Isabella lived an iconic life and this is all showcased throughout the museum which feels like stepping through history. The regal interiors and free online descriptions of each room and its story is only the tip of the iceberg.It is a must visit when in Boston, offering both history, archotecture, interior and art.

Crazy amazing place! Can’t say enough things about Isabella Gardner Museum. It’s one of this small museums that can be covered in a couple hours, yet you get so much out of the experience. I loved the fact that it’s so easily accessible. It’s so fun to walk inside the beautiful mansion and to experience the artwork and historical artifacts so neatly arranged.

The entire style is similar to the Bahia Garden in San Diego. It makes sad to learn about the painting theft incident. This whole place is well preserved with rich exhibitions. It’s easy to spend an entire afternoon lose yourself here.

Imagine that you are going inside someones home that is huge, classic, unpredictable, full of memorable expensive personal collections from around the world, blended with the beauty of a tropical garden as the center that connected all rooms on three floors. Thats at least how I feel. All rooms at every level is differently designed and colored by the owner for different purposes. One can be grander because of its wood elements, while others are grand with its metal or fabric elements. You can see paintings, jewellery, clothes, books, tapestry, stained glass, pottery, furniture, sculpture, letters, and many more. Enjoy the freshness of the gardens fresh view and fresh air after leaving or while seeing each room. You will feel more inspired and peaceful. I always thought that thats the garden is for. Sometimes there will be activities for children to paint, a small concert to enjoy in the garden, a free tour to follow, or talks to attend. Check the brochure and ask someone with ASK ME pin. Check out the gift shop and the restaurant. Oh, one more, try to search about the story when the paintings were stolen in the 90s, and the frames were left hanging empty until today. It adds to your excitement of its mystery when you found them inside!

Very stunning place, the collection comprise pieces from Asia and Europe, mostly Italy. Id recommend to go during a sunny day because the beauty of the courtyard dazzles under the sunlight, which perhaps is the most representative part of the museum , and some of the halls are protected from the sunlight in order to preserve the delicate pieces, so it can be laborious to contemplate the art during a gloomy day. In conclusion, Mrs. Stewart was truly a visionnaire and its perceived in the way she composed the museum and her desire to share the beauty and majesty of knowledge and art.

One of my favorite places to visit in the spring time. They have a great area in the Centercourt of the house that looks magnificent this time of year also they’ve added a greenhouse please make sure you check that out as they’re growing some amazing plants.If you can count all the fireplaces Make sure you didn’t miss one. So important to go to their café as well they have some great food. They’re only open for a small time during the day and they also have a library section/lounge

Amazing! So much history and art collected by one woman. Her house is beautiful and the gardens are peaceful. The art is from all over the world. You will feel like you have traveled the globe after you have walked all three floors. If you love history and art make sure you give yourself a lot of time there is a lot to see for a such a small space. Easily a three hour or more visit. There is a gift shop and a cafe. If you are on the go there are free lockers for backpack storage. A Boston must see!

I adore this place. Its like stepping into another world. The artwork is unrivaled and the courtyard is a dream. Cafe is just a sit down restaurant though with uber fancy menu.

Her goal was to make beautiful art available to everyone with no barriers. Literally. Youre asked not to touch, but you walk up to nearly all the pieces. And she wanted people to just experience the art, so things arent labeled. It really offered a different experience. Go early to avoid crowds and alone to just contemplate.

This was one of my favorite Museums in Boston while visiting. You can spend hours and still not see all of the amazing art pieces that Isabella Gardner collected. Such a unique experience.

A lovely museum. There is so much to see. I recommend listening to the talks and asking questions. The room guides were very helpful. Get there early on weekends. It gets crowded.

Great pieces of art. You would need at least an hour to review each and every bit of the place. The garden is a beautiful place to take pictures.

Beautiful museum with an amazing inner garden and a lots of interesting history

This place is a hidden gem for the artwork but also the space. Gorgeous courtyard in the middle where we happened to stumble upon with opera singing gifts to patrons. Will take a few hours to do it properly!

My partner and I went here for the 10$ tickets and art making studio and stayed because it super awesome! The art is wonky and strewn about, the garden is beautiful, and the food at the restaurant is delicious. We spent close to 4 hours here and it was a great experience. I definitely recommend!
