BYOSR - Bring Your Own Self-RestraintI always enjoy a visit to Cheap Joes outlet store. Its a major reason we visit the Boone area. They have a good selection of items they carry in their catalog in addition to their knowledgeable and friendly staff. I could spend hours and thousands of dollars here, but manage to spend only a reasonable amount of my hubbys money. I adore this shop. If youre a watercolorist, you must visit, but every creative type should at least pop in.

Just received a block of watercolor Legion Stonehenge paper I ordered. Havent tried it yet. It came damaged with one corner hit and bent and the side with a indent. I dont know who they use for shipping, but Im not thrilled. Just ordered a kilimanjaro waterpaper block and will see how they do the second time. Everyone deserves a second chance. If it comes damaged... Ill be done ordering from them.Update! The Kilimanjaro watercolor block came in a box and it was perfect condition. I appreciate a business that listens to its customers. I will definitely buy from them again.

Traveling I found how lovely Boone is and how fortunate to have a well stocked, well ordered art supply store for the community and an on line presence. Didnt need any specific supplies but came away with some QoR watercolor and a great chair with a comfortable back.

I am a professional painter in watercolor. I received 50 sheets of Saunders Waterford 300 Lbs CP 22x30 paper from Cheap Joe’s. As each sheet dries there is a long line that appears and runs the length of the sheet along the long edge that has the square embossment in one corner. It is like a drawn out wave form and has a repeating bump that appears at about 19 inches. When I put a number of sheets end to end the line just continues from one sheet to the next. I believe the sheets were scratched before the paper was cut and stacked. I spoke with cheap joes they said email images I did and never heard back. So I called and said they don’t see it but then she said maybe they do. But still zero effort to resolve the issue and no call back or email. Really infuriating.Meanwhile St Cuthberts Mill that makes the paper is taking the situation seriously. After seeing the same photos they asked me to send them the actual paper so at my cost I sent them all the bad spots to inspect. It’s not paint built up or sizing but a machine made repetitive mark. As a kind gesture they promised to send me 10 sheets.Cheap Joe’s I’m still waiting for a response.. ignoring a customer that has made a large purchase and has a legitimate issue is simply wrong.

Cheap Joes has good prices, excellent customer service, very good private label supplies along with the usual branded products. I would shop there again via the internet.

Ive been ordering, by mail, from Cheap Joes for years. It was such a treat to find myself in the mountains of North Carolina and be passing by the original Cheap Joes store. I stopped in, and it did not disappoint. They just have everything and more that one needs in the art world, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff were so friendly and helpful, its a little crazy to feel this way about going into a store, I know, but I just loved it.

I just finished a 4 day workshop at Cheap Joe’s. I have attended many workshops throughout the years. Joe attends to every detail. Each participant is warmly greeted upon arrival and assisted to the workshop space. The workshop space is walled with large windows, spacious, clean, and comfortable. Complimentary water, coffee, tea with a fridge for our use and beverages provided (nominal fee). Two double sinks for our use. Lunch is included. We may enjoy our meal at our workstation, dining table, or outdoors on a large veranda or out under the sky at picnic tables.Each morning we are greeted with a “surprise gift” from Joe!! A class photo is taken on our first day “of school” :) We may shop til we drop in the store with a workshop discount!! Joe also provides easy access to the instructors supplies. All this being said, Joe is the reason for the success of these workshops. He has done his homework as a workshop participant. Joe knows what we do, what we need, what we expect as students. Joe is the real deal. Joe greets each person he meets as if you are a longtime friend. He makes each artist feel worthy and appreciated. Just ask anyone who has met Joe. I have, and I’m telling you.Thank you, Joe.

Nice painting supply store for artists. They have a much larger selection in their catalog but there is something to be said for instant gratification.They have a very good collection of brushes, canvases, oil and latex/acrylic paints. They also sell watercolor paints, gel and other pens, drafting supplies and craft supplies. They also have paint and art supplies for children.There is a small public gallery of beautiful watercolors by Joe himself. Some of them are available for sale.They have a public restroom.

Absolutely love this place. Im a watercolor artist and going to Cheap Joes is like being a kid in a candy store. Yes, I could buy my supplies from several local art supply stores, which I do, but the prices are higher than CJs and it is a battle to get to their locations due to traffic. And I could order from CJs and save while avoiding traffic, which I do, but the sterile feeling doesnt help my need to feel creative. So, about once a year, I gladly drive to Boone, NC for the joy of being in the store. That isnt the cheapest thing to do, but I enjoy the drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains and I come out of CJs feeling artiscally recharged.

Always love getting to visit and purchase, online is great, just love the in store experience. The staff is so helpful too.

When I first registered for Cheap Art Joes i was overwhelmed with the variety of supplies. I ordered and proceeded with the order and then i got a message that a huge amount of money was withdrawn from my visa account from a weird name in Australia. My card was hacked! Ive been sending emails to Joes and no one is replying. Ive been running around and calling my bank. I dont know if Joes is a scam or someone just hacked their system but they have a serious problem they need to fix. I tell you BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont make the same mistake as i did!!!!!! There is even another review the complained the same thing!!!

Staff was helpful and the selection was great. Much better than a Miachels or a Hobby Lobby.

I used to love shopping online at Cheap Joes but they seem to be leaning toward bait and switch tactics that have made me wary. I was shopping for a specific type of paper and a prominent ad popped up to tell me that if I bought a certain brand I would get a free paintbrush. I took the bait. When I received the paper but no brush I contacted customer service. They sent me a screen shot showing the paper I had ordered (one price) and the same paper with the free brush ($13 more). I had kept a screen shot of the ad that had popped up and assumed they would honor it. Customer service looked at my screen print and told me they could understood how I had interpreted it to mean the paper came with a free brush (well have to look into rewording that in future) but they still refused to send me a brush unless I paid an additional $13. Lousy customer service with a hint of shady business practice. I havent bought from them since. Their prices and quality are sometimes excellent, but be very careful.

I have been going here for my design materials for two years. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and hospitable--I spent an hour testing out dozens of expensive markers before buying only a small handful. Then a few weeks later, when a couple markers went dry WAY too soon, they helped me exchange the faulty markers.

I have proof that my credit card was hacked by cheap joes. and, equally as upsetting was, when i phoned cheap joes to report the violation there was no apology , no voiced concern in what i was reporting and no follow up. i will advise my students not to purchase from cheap joes in the future because of this .
