This was a pretty nice military park to visit. Very scenic with lots of monuments and historical info. The hiking trail/paved path through the woods was really cool. Would have given this place a 5/5 but the visitor center was closed like most all NPS facilities in South Carolina (with the exception of Fort Sumter) using Covid as a lame excuse to not work...even though most all NPS visitor centers around the country are open, even if they just have set up a temporary tent/table where at least a park ranger was available to assist visitors...not this place.

A great place to hike and learn about history at the same time. I would give it 5 stars, except the close and lock the parking lot at 5 PM at this time of year and at 6 during the summer.. I know they want to protect the visitor center and restrooms from vandal, but there has to be a way to leave the parking lot open later. That being said, dont let it deter you from visiting. The battlefield trail is handicap accessible and you can follow along the trail with downloads to your phone describing what happened at selected stops. There are hiking trails to Browns Mountain and the State Kings Mountain trail system.

We happened along this park on vacation while driving to Charlotte from the Smoky Mountains. I had no idea it existed until we saw the signs for it on the Interstate. We decided to stop just to grab a stamp for our National Parks stamp book. By the time we arrived at the visitor center it was already 4:45, so we didnt get to walk around at all. The Ranger on site was super nice though and we ended up talking to him for about 15 minutes. Well definitely be coming back when we are in the area and have more time.

Unfortunately, the remnants of Hurricane Zeta prohibited us from walking the trails BUT Ranger Lamar Tate (sent to advise us the park was closed) spent an AWESOME 20 minutes summarizing the amazing events that took place on these hallowed grounds. Thank you Ranger Tate for taking your time with us!! We will return next time we pass through the area.

This is one of my favorite Revolutionary War Battlefields to visit. The trail around the battlefield is very easy to walk, and there are some very beautiful views from the top. I would highly recommend coming during October when the park does a reenactment of the Battle of Kings Mountain. This is one of the really neat things to see. Also, if you enjoy Revolutionary War history, you should check out Brattonsville down below York.

We arrived at the park at 5:00 PM on 06 September. The website states that extended hours were in place “through Labor Day weekend.” Labor Day is 07 September so today would be part of Labor Day weekend if I am correct. The gates were locked and a temporary sign was hanging on the gates saying closed at 5:00PM.Can someone explain this?

Come prepared for a fantastic walk (on recently paved walkways!) through the forest to learn about the battle at Kings Mountain! The walk includes several off the path historical markers and National Park Service signage elements to help guide visitors and enthusiasts on the journey up to the monuments atop the hard-won mountain.Be sure to bring some water to keep refreshed, as the mid-summer heat can be quite draining, so stay hydrated as you hike the loop!Be sure to enjoy the Visitor Center where a small museum features artifacts from the battle, as well as a well-done documentary film about this history of this important turning poi t in the Revolutionary War.If you have questions about the site, the museum, or the history of the battle, ask the Park Rangers, theyre great!

Having studied about Kings Mountain in school, I was happy to walk the actual site. The museum is small but has a nice selection of artifacts. The trail has some poignant sections. Fergusons grave marker and the site where he fell are marked. The monument at the top of the key point of the battle is impressively tall and has a selection of information of key players and battle details.

This National Memorial site is very well done. It is hard to believe that such atrocities happened in the US. Makes us very thankful to God for the freedom we have. This is an amazing place to live American history. The rubberized 1 1/2 mile trail through the battlefield can be handled by young children, seniors, and wheelchairs, with some help on hill. The facts are well explained on the trail as well as the museum. On my fist visit I was quite presently surprised. This was the true turning point of the American Revolution - right here on these grounds!

Visited the battlefield and walked the self tour using the phone app. A must-do to get the feel of the battle and what took place here. As you walk, with the information from the app at each station the battle unfolds. You can imagine the militias in position, the Tennessee farmer/woodsman climbing the west face closing the trap on Ferguson. Kudos to NPS.

I love history and I love this park. I am originally from Saratoga NY which has a lot of Revolutionary War history. I am so glad I can learn more about our American history and the Patriots that fought for our freedom, which so many people these days have forgotten. My seven year old my mother and I walked the 1.5 mile trail. My son ran to each plaque to read them. We watched a weapons demonstration and my son got to take part in a militia drill. One of the finest and most easily accessible national parks anywhere just of I-85 near the NC/SC border. Americas freedom was hard fought for at Kings Mountain and together with the nearby Battle of Cowpens ensured success of the southern campaign of the American Revolutionary War. These two pivotal battles are still judiciously studied today by historians and students of military leadership and strategy.

An amazing and engaging walk with well-presented Revolutionary War information at regular intervals. The main trail is about 1.5 miles but its well paved and fairly moderate. The display boards describe the movement of troops across the landscape and often include quotes from people at the actual battle. The visitors center is engaging as well and the rangers that we interacted with were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. As a family weve done almost 40 state parks and a handful of national parks, and this quickly became one of our favorites. Cant wait to visit again.

The NPS does a good job detailing the story behind the battle and what led up to the engagement. Beautiful trail!! Paved the entire length with a few spots to venture off. About 200ft of elevation change which is a nice change from a flat park. We had our 2 year old with us and were able to take a stroller on the trail, such a blessing. There are benches for a short break every 200-400ft to make the trail do-able for any age. Informational plots along the trail to allow for appreciation of the grounds. Everything was well kept and maintained.
