I enjoy skating here with my kids. The owner and staff are wonderful.Definitely recommend, very family friendly.

Nice place. Very clean and spacious. Festive tables, red, white, and blue round tables. Individualized party areas. Decent cafe area: need more items on the menu. Hot dogs, pizza, nachos with cheese and peppers. Basic drink products. Skates clean and in good shape. Fun activities and GREAT MUSIC.NICE VARIETY... This will become a weekend spot.

Took my family and we all had a great time. The Floor is one of the best around and the employees were extremely nice. I would rate 10 of 10 if I could.

The staff was so kind and helpful! One of the attendants tightened my wheels and adjusted my stoppers without hesitation! They made our first visit there very memorable and Im grateful for that!

So me and my friends requested some anime songs and stuff right? Well, 30 minutes later they still hadn’t played the songs we requested. So we went up to the people and asked if they were gonna play the songs we requested and they said “maybe, maybe we won’t.” JUST BECAUSE ITS ANIME AND ITS JAPANESE DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING. NONE OF THE SONGS WE REQUESTED HAD CUSS WORDS IN IT AND IT DIDNT TALK ABOUT ANYTHING BAD. oh and also we were the first ones to request a song right? Well some other girls came up and requested some Justin Bieber songs AFTER us. Well guess what? THEY PLAYED THEIR SONGS FIRST AND IM SITTING HERE AND THEY STILL HAVENT PLAYED OUR SONGS. I hate this place️

Stopped by looking for outdoor quad wheels. They didnt have what I needed but the staff wassup extremely friendly and helpful. We definitely plan to visit for a skate night soon.

This was a pretty good place. Good music, nice size, and reasonable in price. My reason for taking away a was because, of the lack in food choices. There are many wonderful places around but, not much to pick from on the inside Other than that, pretty darn good place.!

My kids love skating, especially my son. The music is good, upbeat and fun games. There are 2 things that I would like to request, which may not happen, and thats ok, just wanted to throw this out there.. We are there for hours, it would be nice if there was a comfortable place to sit other than the benches or round tables, this may be asking for too much since its mostly a place for birthday parties.

From the service to the value, this was an all around remarkable experience! They really helped to make my sweet girls day so special and we are incredibly grateful. We will certainly be visiting again and will recommend them to all of our friends with littles!

We hosted an adult skating party for my best friend, Erica Patton a few years ago and we had an excellent experience. The staff was quite professional and accommodating. Every single adult and child within our party enjoyed themselves. I highly recommend this establishment if youre hosting any type of celebration.

My favorite place to skate in the Birmingham area! The staff is incredibly friendly and the owner pretty much taught me how to skate! They have free lessons for all ages every Saturday morning. Love this place!

Great traditional style skating rink with the usual pizza, snacks and soft drinks. Along with some amusement games. Of course a skating rink with black lights, DJ and skate races.. Good ole Family Fun.

Average skating rink, took the kids they enjoyed themselves. Spent $25, $10 for both the kids and $5 for myself included skate rental. Got there Saturday around 4pm and we were able to skate til close which was 11 not bad for price. Rating affected by aroma, space comfort and lockers. Typical skating rink put your shoes in the skates location not here, you have to buy a locker that doesnt work.

Yo, its your boy Tyler the owner is a nice man and godly man, I grew up here since I was 4, years ago he taught me it worked in the first hour I got better and now I skate with college kids there in a line.... I miss you Cheryl may you rest in peace in the pearly gates of Gods palace. Any ways the owner is absolute legend hes nice and greets you. I would totally recommend his skates. Fun time skating but none of our rental skates would buckle correctly leaving us with some foot pain. Smells like a locker room and years of dust has built up on overhead fixtures. Our group did feel safe and had fun though.

This is the first time I have ever posted about a business. The owner of skates 280 in Birmingham Alamaba was very rude and disrespectful to my family. I must say I was truly disappointed in this establishment. The police said that this is normal behavior from the owner, and that he has done this on numerous occasions. I have never seen the police called by the person exhibiting the bad behavior. When the police arrived and it was explained to them what happened, they told us there was nothing that they could do because the rudeness came from the owner and that this happens quite often. I am saddened to see that I am serving my country for someone of such little character. A person that doesnt show selfless customer service as a business owner and such dishonor to his paying customers and establishment.

They were great and kids had fun but wish they were more prepared with the hotdogs and nachos knowing it was a field trip with alot of hungry kids at lunch time! The guy running games and music was great and played just the right kind of music for all age children! Kept it fun and PG 3-17! Lots of places to sit for a moment if needed. We watched then sanitize every skate that came back them immediately! It was great to see as a parent!

Had a great birthday party for my daughter here. The hostess was very helpful. I left a few items at home and she was right there to help me out.

They host birthday parties here, and they have free skate lessons on Saturdays at 11am. The staff is very friendly and helpful- small arcade area and concessions area as well.

I couldnt disagree more on the comment of how rude the staff are. Actually quite the opposite! My boys have recently taken to skating so we visit almost every weekend and the lady at the front has always been the nicest. I highly recommend this place for good ole family fun and any parties!

Great place for a birthday party!

I had a blast with my partner this past Sunday night. We showed up an hour before closing, and the man only charged us half price I think. Great customer service! I also had never tried the inline skates, and the gentleman helped me put them on, and explained how to skate in them! We will definitely be back for more fun and skating!

The owner ripped me a new one in front of my kids, reprimanding a over something I was not aware of. She was nasty and rude in how she handled it. I will never be back. Never in my 48 yrs have I ever been talked to from a business owner like this. Im appalled. Being professional in handling something so minor could have changed this.Update: To the owner.Yes that was me and I stated I didnt know. That wasnt the problem that there was no outside food allowed. It was how your wife reacted and treated us. Our kids were shocked and appalled as well. I have no problem with any mistake I made but its how you approach someone in business with an honest mistake. Tact is a smart business choice. We used to come there, now we wont. Nor our kids friends. Word of mouth can ruin your reputation. Next time choose to respond in a business manner.

Worst experience EVER. My family was escorted out by the police because my wife asked about a song requested. I wish I was joking but Im not. I wouldnt recommend ANYONE taking their children to this establishment and I pray that the issue within is quickly resolved.

We had an excellent experience at Skates 280 for our sons 8th birthday in January. Will was extremely helpful and so was the greeter at the door and the staff girl assigned to us for our party. We will definitely go back for a party next year. Our other children have already requested parties here and and it was easy, reasonably priced and everyone in his class had a blast!We have been several times other than for the party and it is always very clean and safe. The people writing negative reviews obviously have a bone to pick because they werent following the rules to keep everyone safe. The staff at Skates has the best interest of everyone in mind. If you and your children follow the rules, which arent unreasonable, everyone will have a good time and be safe.

I have enjoyed skating here ever since I moved to Birmingham back in 2007. I have been to some of the other rinks and they just cant compare. The place can get pretty packed on the weekends. If you are like me and enjoy skating as an adult, bring your friends and go to one of their adults only skate sessions. They play some good tunes as you get your groove on the skate floor :)

Me and my friends from college go to Skates 280 every weekend just about. Fun place to hang out. The staff is nice, especially our main home-dog playing our favorite songs throughout the night. Definitely a fun place to take kids or adults, anyone can have a good time at Skates 280.

Booked a birthday party for my daughter and she as well as all our guest had a great time. The service was excellent and the price was reasonable. People rating this place low because of how they were treated may need to look at themselves.

Horrible experience. The owner was rude and very unpleasant.we had our sons birthday party there. They were not accommodating at all. Did not receive drinks until about 10 min before our party ended we ask multiple time and they acted annoyed. Would not recommend. We will not be going back.

Have taken my family there once, and my wife and I went on a date night there. We love the place. The staff has been nothing but friendly toward us, and we feel not only welcome, but appreciated when we go. Its nice to know that a local business can still care about its customers. Its an old roller rink. They have inline and side by side skates. If you want to be transported to the 80s this is your ticket!

We like the hospitality of the husnand-wife hands-on ownership and are especially appreciative that they pre-screen all the music they play- no bad language or adult content. I had a birthday party herr for my 12 year old daughter. Everything was fine until toward the end of the party the DJ/owner didnt want to play any of the songs my daughter and her friends requested even though they followed his rules. I had to have words with him. I thought that was rude and unnecessarily since I had already paid so much for the party anyway.

The owner was nice to my daughters and she also allowed them to come in and skate at a discounted rate...Also the music was appropriate for any age. It sort of reminded me of when I was a child on Saturday mornings at the old Valley Skating Rink.

I started going to Skates 280 over 20 years ago and went nearly every weekend throughout my childhood. Ive invested countless hours (and dollars) to this rink, making many, many friends, some of which ended up becoming lifelong. Getting to know the staff as time went on was also a treat unto itself.It pains me to read other reviews about the passing of Cheryl. I regret not coming back more often to see her, along with the entire Skates 280 family. I miss them all!Knowing Will, the way the rink is run surely hasnt changed much. Because of that, theyve been able to stay open all these years and will surely continue to as time goes on.I also would like to thank the owners for letting us use the rink for practice when we had our inline speed skating team together all those years ago and being supportive of us when we competed in our various events.
