Absolutely beautiful little gem off the gulf coast of Mississippi! If you get a chance, take the Ship Island ferry and spend the day. The beach is beautiful white sand and the water is brimming with wildlife! The Dolphins were hanging around the shore all day long.

While there arent any trees theres plenty of places to get shade. I love that the island has a store & concession stand. Which makes whip island so unique besides all of the history.

Had a great beach day here. Run to the chairs if you want one close to the shore line. But there are plenty to go around further away from the water. Its a very long walk from where you get off the boat to where the chairs are, across the whole island! Put whatever your carrying on a fat wheel (sand) cart. Decent food at the tiny snack bar, glad they have one.

Grew up going here and it has just gotten better over the years. The park rangers do an amazing job keeping the place together and orderly. The water is so beautiful. You most explore the fort and wonder around the island to take in the wild life. Great place to bring the family. Remember the sun block and small cooler.

This has become our beach vacation location. It’s very laid back and relaxing. We always ride the ferry out of Gulfport MS and do the 1/2 day excursion. Buy your tickets online, just search for Ship Island Excursions.Once you are there, be prepared for a LONG walk from the dock all the way across the island to the beach. Pack accordingly. Rolling coolers or really portable models are a must. There’s only one little snack bar there that sells food, drinks, floats, shaded, and beers. Prices aren’t bad and the food is good. Burgers, dogs, and such. Try the chicken wrap with ranch! If you want adrenaline and excitement go somewhere else. If you want to enjoy time at the beach relaxing, it might be your new favorite spot.

Super nice beach with clear water ! This is the same as Ship Island btw. Ferry ride over of 55mins from Gulfport, and goes out of Biloxi as well. Definitely worth it for a day with a great beach and ferry rides! You can stay with the tourist in the rented chairs and umbrellas, or take off along the shore of the island and settle on your own beach. Just wish I could stay a few days at a time, rather than day trip.

This was the only place that was safe from the algae bloom. Theres a little concession stand and umbrellas and chairs to rent. All in all kind of a pain to get to because of the boat ride and long walk but worth the trouble.

Best Darn Beach in Mississippi! Very clean, lots of beach umbrellas with chairs to rent. Plenty of marine life to see (I saw catfish, mantis shrimp, sand flea, starfish, stingrays and a bunch of other things.Im including a photo of what the starfish looked like. Also, a photo of what the mantis shrimp looks like. Not my photos, found them on Google. On the island there is a snack bar with hot dogs and hamburgers, chips and soda. Also on the island is Fort Massachusetts. Its well worth exploring, and theres a free tour. Plus, its the coolest place on the island outside of the water.Get there early, bring a cooler filled with ice and water!

I loved the island. The beaches were beautiful. My only complaint is that the rangers have a cart that they ride around on that takes up most of the board walk leaving just enough room on the island boardwalk to walk by in a single file line. This isnt safe when it is driving by a group of pedestrians. The cart was driven past us all three times we walked across the island on the boardwalk. Im not knocking the rangers. They were going slow and being safe. The size of their vehicle the subject of my gripe. We still had an awesome time on the island. 5 stars!

Very enjoyable day trip. Longish walk from dock to beach, so prepare for that. Boat trip over was nice and relaxing, saw lots of dolphins around the boat. Beach was quiet when we went, just enough people, not crowded or overwhelming. Got a couple of chairs, opened the umbrella and read my kindle. Just how I wanted to spend the day.

This was a great place to spend a day in April. It sounds like it gets hot later in the season. The fort was very interesting, great sampling of history by the volunteer. The sand is lush white stuff. It was a little cold yet to go swimming for me, although some young people did. Saw dolphins and many birds. Snack bar had good selection and great prices. Staff were polite and friendly. What a good day.

Was disappointed with the area, bc all there was was the fort, n then you had to walk a long way to get to the beach, n it was that darker gray sand, n you had to rent the umbrellas, which I understand but I thought there would be more to see, like a few shops, but all there was ,was a snack/souvenir shop! So I was really disappointed, n wouldnt go back! I loved the boat ride out there n back, that was the highlight of the trip for me! The Captain of the boat did a fantastic job stirring the boat over there n back! The Captain n his crew were all very nice! They get an A+ from me!

I cannot wait to get down there next week! I try to go at least once each year. Yes, the walk from the boat to the beach is long and hot (shoes are a must!!!) but it is so worth it! You can haul a lot of stuff with you or you can take advantage of the excellent prices at the snack bar and gift stand and you can rent chairs or bring your own. You can check out the fort or the wildlife in the salt marsh (I saw an alligator one in an inland pond) or just play in the sand and surf. And the boat ride there and back is a lot of fun as well! It is a great way to spend the day!

This is a very beautiful island and the water is actually clear so much so that standing chest deep in the water you can see the sand on the bottom. Theres also a snack bar for when you get hungry and of course a restroom/changeing room. Also if youre interested theres an old fort that you can look at with some museum type displays in it to look at.

Picture a beach. Just a beach, nothing else. Put umbrellas and sun chairs on it, about 10 feet apart. Throw in a bunch of families, not too many. Pick a chair and put a cooler by it. Put a few beers and a sandwich in the cooler. Also, there is a fort you can tour. There are bathrooms and you can buy a hamburger and a pickle.

Great experience. Just wish the island has a smoking and non smoking section. Whatever you do..... Wear water shoes or something besides flip flops. The sand WILL burn your feet. The boat and staff are fantastic, snack bar on boat and island are great (they LOVE their salt and pepper on EVERYTHING). Well worth the money. Go out in the morning and stay till last boat comes back.
