From dress up to tree houses to how water in canals and rivers work along with pipe flow. From teaching to grocery shop and how produce gets to the grocery store, theres something for almost all ages, even my littlest got exhausted just watching

This was an impressive set up. It was our first time here and our kids (6 1/2 and 19 months) really enjoyed it. Its set up as a village - shoe store, vet clinic, pizzeria, grocery store, etc. Quite lovely. Our toddler LOVES LOVES LOVES water, so my only problem with the place was that the water table area flowed into every other area and I couldnt keep him out. He was DRENCHED by the time we left. Im sure there are other parents who would also like to see that area be a little less accessible. Overall it was great and we will be back!

I didnt see my family on exhibit, having been adopted after spending 17 years in the system, I was hoping for the family experience through the museum format. The best part was that the bathrooms had doors, I havent been used to that and to me it was a revelation, I hope that I can see my family on exhibit some day. Thanks for the free toilet paper too! Nice touch! Very classy!

Lots of activities for my 4 children, ranging from 6 and to 13. The Think Shop was my favorite, allowing myself and my 7 and 13 year old daughters to make wooden crafts with the availability of different types of materials and to use actual tools. The other two loved running around, making pizzas in Sals Pizza Shop, delivering mail to all the shops, picking fruit and veggies from the orchards and fields. So many activities, Id be long-winded if listed them all. Besides, that would spoil the excitement!

If you have young kids, get the annual family membership, it pays for itself after just a few visits. We got our son a membership on his birthday and plan on doing it every year until he outgrows the museum. So nice when we just want to pop in for an hour or less, we dont feel like we wasted the admission fees.

A little pricey, especially for parents to just go in and chase their kids around. The outside play area is a little small but nice in the summer when the water tables are on. Wish the exhibits changed more often they seem to be the same everytime we go. Also so many items are really outdated, the toys and small house area could just use a little bit of a freshen up. But overall we enjoy our time there.

Very cute for littles to learn and run off energy at the same time. $9 per person, which I thought was kind of expensive for what variety they have. Cheaper prices in WI at childrens museums with alot more to offer. This place did have a really neat art workshop classroom where you pick a piece of scrap wood they have and lots and lots of bins with random doodads to choose from to create something neat. Lots of tools available to use, glue guns, etc. Really cute exhibit to encourage imagination and creativity. The whole museum is perfect for all ages though!!

Always such a great time with my boys. Weve been going for years. Its still even fun with my 10 year old in the creation station where you can make fun crafts. They provide you with the material and tools and you can create a lot of fun stuff. My 5 year old loves to pretend hes a fireman, pizza/ice cream maker, and make phone calls from station to station. Would highly recommend. They also have a very nice outside park as well with even fun water stuff.

Review №40

We have visited the museum once so far and plan to return again in the near future. I would really love to give the museum 5 stars because, the activities for the children are awesome, and my 2 year old toddler loves to interact with the exhibits. However, there are big kids that run around constantly and are never told not to by the parents or staff. This is supposed to be a safe place for the littles and it causes accidental injuries that could be completely avoided if there was more of a presence from the adults monitoring the play area. There was more than one time that a child came out of the play area crying because they couldn’t find their parents. For more than 5 minutes a child cried looking for their parents scared while not one staff member reacted. I do realize that lots of kids cry and I will admit that I thought the child’s parents were the people standing right next to him staring right at him. The worst part was when we found out that he was lost his own parents didn’t even know he was!! Please for the love of God watch your children, there are horrible people in the world and it is your responsibility as a parent to protect them from danger. Also $9 for the parents seems a little much considering we aren’t the ones playing. Other than the what Ive mentioned above the museum is awesome and I recommend it as long as you can be present.

This is our favorite place to run off some energy - all year round. Dance lessons here are exactly what my preschooler needs to practice working in a group. Both of my kids love the Think Shop where they can learn to use tools safely and make whatever they want with a variety of supplies. Were here often enough that the staff now know us by name. Bonus!! Whenever I do a deep cleaning of our art/craft supplies, this is now my go-to for a place that will take just about any materials that my kids have outgrown, or lost interest in. Best money spent was our annual family membership.

Outstanding family museum!! Always very clean and all the exhibits work every time we go. We have a 1 and a half year old boy and a 4 year old girl and both could play for hours here. Their plus membership also offers great reciprocal benefits to other museums especially in the Chicago area. Very highly recommended!

Very nice and safe childrens environment. It would be nice to see parents teaching their children to put things back where they go as at visit nothing was where it should be, making it difficult for other children to play. They offer wonderful schooling and extra curricular courses at a hefty cost but it is a very nice open and engaging area.

My boys enjoy it. But I have some MAJOR complaints. Im a single mom and have a baby AND a toddler, so when my 8 year old wants to use the think shop, he cant because I would have to contain both of younger kids in there (yeah right) while watching him craft. Meanwhile, there are anywhere from 1-3 museum employees who are supervising in the think shop, except, apparently thats not their job. IM supposed to supervise all three of my children simultaneously or I get scolded by staff, which is next to impossible with three boys in three different age groups and with three different levels of physical ability. I am usually stuck with the crawler in the baby area and there are no options for me to take my oldest to do something more age-appropriate. Luckily, my middle still enjoys the toddler area right next to it, but hes about to age out of there (turns four this year). Then what? Then Ill have a walking baby, a preschooler, and a 9 year old. And I cant physically watch all of them play in the areas that are appropriate for them.Further, when my youngest was a newborn, I would take him to the back to the, which has comfortable couches and natural light and is quiet, just due to all the commotion of the play area. So my other children were in the play area and my mom was there with them. But again, I was scolded for leaving them unattended and told that it what wasnt against museum policy is if I nursed my baby in the closet-esque mothers room with a hard chair and no windows that was near the entrance of the museum, nearly as far away from the play area as the back area! Seriously? Some of the employees (not all because there are a few who are extremely pleasant and I look forward to seeing them) come off as very self-important and end making me feel so incapable and unable, as well as frustrated because... WHATS A MOM TO DO??Like I said, my boys enjoy playing, but the staff here can sometimes just ruin our day and with two (maybe three) boys with sensory processing issues, this creates so much chaos in our life.

My daughter really loves the post office area and delivering the mail to the different places (grocery store, vet, farm, shoe store) inside the museum. Its a fantastic place for kids to burn off some energy, use their imagination, play, and learn :-) it seems like its aimed towards younger children, so perhaps older kids (10 plus maybe??)might not be as into it.

I absolutely love taking my kids here! The staff is amazing. One time in particular comes to mind when staff went above and beyond. My oldest was potty training and had wet his pants. I was prepared to leave because I forgot to pack a change of clothes. The girl at the front desk asked what size he wore and proceeded to bring us clean pants and underwear in my sons size! Nothing but good things to say about The Family Museum. Great atmosphere for kids of all cultures and ages to play together and have fun.
