We visited The Pinnacles of Berea for the first time this past weekend. WOW! Amazing! The park was crowded! So crowded we wore our masks while hiking. We hiked to East Pinnacle, Eagle’s Nest, and Buzzard’s Roost. The hike was well marked on a well traveled path. Just the right level of smooth easy trails and tough steep climbs with some rocks to climb up. This was a ton of fun. East Pinnacle was really crowded and we were uncomfortable to go to the final view. We continued on to Eagle’s Nest.On the way we enjoyed lunch on a beautiful rock overlook. Fantastic spot with shade and off the trail so we could linger for about 30 minutes and enjoy rest time. As we travled to Eagle’s Nest the trail was less crowded. The lookout point had a few hikers, but we spaced so well that we had our own viewing space! We headed over to Buzzard’s Roost and similar to Eagle’s Nest, we had the best views to ourselves. We headed down to Indian Lookout, but it was so crowded we headed back to the parking lot.Amazing day of hiking!

I absolutely love this place! It is my favorite hiking spot. The best views are East Pinnacle and Indian Fort Overlook. Fall is the best time to visit just to see all those colorful trees.

East Pinnacle trail is a decent little hike. Some elevation, but not too bad. Early morning has the least people. I had this view all to myself. Quite nice.

Great trails, awesome views, cool rocks, well maintained paths. Clean bathrooms with cool water available for refills. Dogs ARE allowed, and most people hike with them off leash... So just make sure your dog is socialized and trained, as usual for most public spaces .

Have been here several times, but most recently they closed the bathroom and instead had a single port-o-let to replace the visitor center.COVID-19 does not spread by people using a bathroom at a visitor center and Kentucky is NOT experiencing a pandemic. My pregnant wife had to wait 10 minutes to use the same single bathroom stall that everyone else does (Which is never cleaned). If you believe the narrative that COVID-19 is an infectious disease, going from a well maintained visitor center to a single port-o-let with a liability waiver on the door is not going to stop the spread. Very disappointed in Berea College.Lets stop living in mindless fear and reopen the center at a once phenomenal facility. Papalinos Pizza is amazing

The Pinnacles are a great local hiking spot in central Kentucky. Getting up to the East or West is a good climb. Once you are up there, go explore Buzzards Roost and Devils Kitchen. You could do a few miles or as much as 10 or more. If you want to visit both sides, go East to West to get through the difficult part of the connecting upper trail.

I love hiking in the Pinnacles to ponder the history, the ecology and the quiet that it affords to all people. In current times, it appears to me that isnt the case anymore. This morning started well, but around 11am, I began to notice groups of 2, 3, 4 or more filtering throughout the trails.I headed over to Eagles Nest to discover it overrun with about 25 people, adults and children.I headed farther out to Kellys Trail. There was a constant stream of people passing me on the trails. It certainly was no longer a refuge from the current health crisis.I am of an at risk group and began to feel uncomfortable with the large numbers of people hiking all around the area. There were no demonstrated concern for social distancing or trail protocols.I decided that it was too risky for me to be in the company of what looked like last weeks beach party, only now taking place in the Pinnacles. As I hurriedly hiked out, I advised the incoming parties of the large numbers of people farther up the trail, the crowding, total lack of concern for the health issues and the risks everyone was exposed to.Most just continued to head for the hills, some voiced their opinion of my mental stability and some were just plain rude. When I arrived at the parking lot, I witnessed drivers circling the lot looking for a place to park and a steady stream of more people heading for the trail.I wont be back until some control is exercised over the situation. It is no longer a safe place to hike.
