We see this often from the highway and finally decided to find it. Was definitely worth a quick stop, not too crowded and almost everyone was responsible and masked. We did bother going up in the monument but Im sure its spectacular. I do feel bad for the residents in the area, no privacy at all.

Three stars for now. The people who work there were extremely friendly. Very helpful. It only gets three because we couldnt go to the top because you cant social distance on the elevator. When you can I believe I might give it a five star rating because of how great the employees were

These photos are from 2015. My wife and I love this battle monument. It’s very historic and amazing to feast your eyes upon. The Bennington Battle Monument is 306 feet 4 and 1/2 inches tall and was completed and dedicated in 1891. It is constructed from blue-grey magnesian limestone. The Monument was built to commemorate the Battle of Bennington which occured on August 16, 1777, and is considered to be the turning point in the Revolutionary War. It is owned by the State of Vermont, and is supported by The Friends of the Monument, a non-profit volunteer group. A number of events are scheduled at the Monument each year, and the public is welcome.

This is an impressive monument to those who fought at the Battle of Bennington. The battle was fought in Walloomsac, NY, approximately 10 miles to the west on August 16, 1777.The tall gray obelisk can be seen from throughout the town. It is a fitting monument to those who served our country as well as the Republic of Vermont so bravely in a battle that is considered the turning point of the revolutionary war.

Very cool monument and a piece of history that is important to the forming of our great country . The entire area of Bennington is gorgeous. We loved the little town with the small shops and natural beauty of the mountains. It is a truly quaint village in a beautiful setting. We absolutely love the kindness of the people and even looked at moving there from Ohio when we didnt know anybody there. It is a must visit if you like small towns. Other than the cold weather, in the fall the views of the fall colors from the monument are breathtaking. Please visit if you get a chance, you will Not be disappointed.

Parking is a bit limited, but the monument area is well kept and beautiful to see. The neighborhood is deviatingly beautiful.I also love that they have a container for dog waste. Many parks lack this, and Im glad this one has it! It would be nice if they could get a trash can too; theres some kind of issue with people throwing out garbage in the dog trash, but without an alternative its hard to blame people for using it.Note: there are a number of private houses right around the monument. I found myself accidentally walking down someones driveway, thinking it was part of the landmark. Care and attention is needed, to ensure you dont walk through anyones lawn or garden.

I GET A KICK OUT READING THE LOWEST REVIEWS FIRST AND I FIND IT FUNNY THAT PEOPLE COMPLAIN THAT THE $5 IS EXPENSIVE FOR THE ELEVATOR RIDE. COME ON PEOPLE $5 TO HELP MAINTAIN THE SITE. DONT BE SO CHEAP. $5 DOESNT MAKE THIS A 1 STAR RATING. YOU CAN GET SOME GREAT VIEWS AND TO LEARN ITS THE TALLEST BUILDING IN VERMONT AT 306 FEET AND THE 6TH TALLEST MONUMENT IN AMERICA IS KIND OF COOL. BUT IS NOT THE TALLEST STRUCTURE. ITS THE 5TH. THE KINGDOM COMMUNITY WIND PROJECT AT 450 FEET TALL. FOLLOWED BY 2 RADIO TOWERS AND A TELECOMMUNICATION TOWER. IT IS A WONDER PLACE BUT TO LEARN THAT THEY TORN DOWN SEVERAL HISTORICAL BUILDINGS (INCLUDING THE VERMONT GAZETTE , THE HOME OF THE FIRST VERMONT NEWS PAPERS) WAS KIND OF SAD. MAKES ME WONDER WHAT KIND OF HISTORICAL SITE THIS COULD OF BEEN IF THEY LEFT THE BUILDS OR ADDED THE MONUMENT TO THE SITE. THE LADY THAT WORK IN THE GIFT SHOP WAS VERY PLEASANT, KNEW THE AREA AND EVEN THO A FEW PEOPLE ALL AT ONCE WAS POUNDING HER FOR INFORMATION SHE STAYED PLEASANT AND NICELY EXPLAIN SHE WOULD BE HAPPY TO ANSWER EVERYBODYS QUESTIONS ONE AT A TIME. PLUS THE ELEVATOR OPERATOR WAS KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FUN. I RECOMMEND THIS SITE FOR ALL HISTORY BUFFS AND/OR PEOPLE THAT ENJOY A NICE VIEW. A GREAT STOP FOR A DAY TRIP.

Great place to visit if youre in the Bennington area. Easy to find even without directions because of how tall it is! I was informed that this is the 6th tallest monument in the United States -- 306 feet tall and built from Sandy Hill Dolomite out of Hudson Falls, NY.Very friendly and informed staff, nice little gift shop, and just $5 to ride up the elevator to check out the 360 degree view from the 200-foot observatory. There are some exhibits displayed on the ground level of the monument as well as a guest book to sign. Purchase of a ticket grants you a discount to the nearby Bennington Museum, if youre interested in checking out more history.

What a great tribute to the sacrifices of the civil war! This handsome monument prominently sits tall above the tree line and offers an amazing view of the surrounding town of Bennington and the countryside. It’s great to visit at any time of the year, but the fall foliage seems to be the best! The nearby gift shop has plenty of local souvenirs to remember the area and learn about some of the local history. The poet Robert Frost’s grave is just a short walk away. The entire area is beautiful to explore and enjoy!

This is a beautiful place of history and scenery. The feeling of the past as told and read is mind opening. The structure is wonderful, although I was worried about toppling the whole time. 306 feet tall, which is one foot taller than the Statue of Liberty. I guess Washington Monument is the next step up. The hill views in the surrounding her are great for photography and the lawn is great for picnics.
