It was a nice sight however more then a few lights were burned out. I didnt expect it to be where it was. However the picture come out great. There should be a time limit on standing in the middle so everyone can get a great shot. I would return tho.
Nice historical plaque outside and grounds look like they have been preserved. Theres even a birdhouse that matches the house. I appreciate that the old gardens were preserved. Good for a quick stop during a visit to the adorable downtown in Benecia. Cool coffee shop across the street, and Diannas down the street has amazing italian cookies.
Extremely knowledgeable docent. Well worth two or three visits to discover new things each time.
Great place to visit for local history! Friendly staff can help with any questions you have and also entertained my grandfather and I with tales of interesting characters. We left with good history book and documentary recommendations. I got to turn the original key in the original lock on the front door! A must visit in Benecia.
A great place for a walk. Pop in and say hi to the docents. Make a donation if you have a couple dollars to spare. This historic place is worth preserving. Such a treat to take the tour. Rich history, and wild stories are shared by the informative guides.
Its great to learn about our local history. The folks there really know their stuff!
Wonderful little piece of preserved California history. Restored building, original and recreated furniture in the Senate and Assembly chambers, good educational video shows the background history of the building, movement of the state capital and reasoning behind the movement. Only state house building still left besides state house in Sacramento. Located in historic downtown Benicia, worth the trip and 30 minute open tour.
Place has potential to be a real treat to visit. Sadly, the grounds are in need of some serious care. I actually offered to help but my offer wasnt for some reason excepted.
They have friendly staff and a great place to visit to learn a little history
Like 9 rooms with 7 of them roped off. If youve done anything historical, youve seen this bf. But the staff was great.
Walking the grounds here is a special treat. The garden beds and old trees are so charming. The wisteria is breathtakingly beautiful when its in bloom. Take the tour sometime, its really good. The docents are really knowledgeable about the history of this place. Even if you dont take the tour, pop in and say hi. Maybe donate a couple bucks to them for the heck of it. Support this local treasure. ️
A beautiful historical treasure. It is a great place to learn about Californias transition to statehood.
My wife and I walked Benicia one day. I asked her have you ever seen the old Capitol? No , so we mosey on over. I looked in my pocket had 2 dollars only. The Doscent says were only open for 15 more minutesHe says the $2. Was enough for us both. 2.50 each is the actual cost. This young man gave us the $100 dollar tourIt is a great piece of our history and the employees are awesome!
This was a great little historical stop. Very small place, so it can be done in a short amount of time. We also got a special tour of the house next-door and that was really interesting and the person that lead to tour was very helpful and knowledgeable.
Very interesting!! Although small, lot of history.
This is a lovely place to learn about Benicia and California history. It was a lovely afternoon.

Awesome place of California history. Great tour guides.
Historic Benicia was awesome. Came originally for the car show for the high school and stayed to explore. The museum was educational and reminded me that at one time, Benicia was the capital of California at one point. The docents were extremely nice and made the visit pleasant.Highlight of the visit was walking the small garden. Though its in the middle of old Benicia, its still quiet and calming.I plan to my kids with me on the next visit. They would enjoy it.
A great pocket state park staffed by knowledgeable and enthusiastic docents.
Wasnt open when it said it was
As a native Benician kid I belonged to a school group that performed on the old Capitol steps during holidays. The Capitol is a state historic gem.
Beautiful historic building. Highle recommend seeing it in person!!
Great historic place.
Always pop in here when I have the chance. Peaceful with pretty flowers and a public bathroom.
Omg beautiful place!!
Very cool. They have a lot of history about benicia.
Reese the park ranger was very awesome and informative. Thanks for the history lesson
Beautiful interesting little place. Small fee and a personal tour. Very nice!
Fascinating, with lots of very rare artifacts!
Lots of school trips here. Use your phone to read the QR codes for more info. This is a nice perspective into historic Benicia.
An excellent place to spend the day, historic sites, cute shops and great food. Be sure to go to 1st Street Cafe and get the crab/artichoke/cheese sandwich.
Benicia was at one time the State Capitol, Interesting place to visit, the Capitol Building ,although small it is a treasure . It is located on 1st Street . Lots of neat shops, restaurants nearby. Also The waterfront and the nearby Benicia State Park also provide places of interest and recreation.
Volunteers are so knowledgeable and friendly
The entire little down town area of Benicia is beautiful. Very dog friendly and old school shops everywhere. One of our favorite places to take our dog for a day on the town.
Love the feel of this town and the history.
Great town! Wonderful historic district and Capitol building before Sacramento!
Its Christmas, so the Capitol is dressed up! Docents and Park Staff are fun and knowledgeable, entertaining even my 10 year old grandson. The Capitol is a must see when you are in Benicia.
Wandered in after having lunch on the way home from Vallejo. The docent Charlie was fascinating. I had an incredibly nice visit it was an unexpected pleasure.
Well preserved, very interesting with knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Could not get inside. Outside nice. No time of open close
Very simple park explain the history of California
Really interesting history.
Nice building and big history
This is a great place to see and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable
A well preserved state Capitol building located in Benicia, is a very neat place to visit. You can go inside and see things left the way they are in the mid 1800s when Benicia was the 3rd state capitol before it moved to Sacramento.
I learned that Benicia was once the Capitol of California before the Capitol moved to Sacramento! So surprising that this small town with the artsy flair was once the Capitol.
A place to bring the new generations and visitors to let them now about Benicia history.
The Capitol of first capital of California in Benicia is very interesting to see and explore. Learned a lot about progressive legislation passed there.
Beautifully maintained and very knowledgeable volunteers.
The golden reef is amazing.
