Amazing experience with Walter and the PaleoAdventures team out in beautiful South Dakota! Learned about fossil formation, digging tools and techniques, and how to recognize and uncover fossils in the ground. Highly recommend this for dinosaur lovers, for those seeking a new educational adventure, and for the thrill of unearthing buried treasures from 65-100 million years ago that have never been seen or touched by humans before! Were planning to return next year for another dig day (or three). Thank you, PaleoAdventures!

What an amazing adventure. Myself and 15 year old daughter had such a great time, we immediately scheduled our next trip out there. Walter is an extremely knowledgeable paleontologist. We also worked with Tom at our dig site and he did a phenomenal job with explaining everything and with helping my daughter find things as well as encouraging her along the way. They had a lot of great discussions about everything paleontology and he gave her some suggestions for schools if she decides to consider this as a career. This was an incredibly fun and educational experience. If you or your child (ages 10 and up) are at all interested in paleontology or dinosaurs in general, this is trip you have to take. The customer service was excellent and it was an all around amazing experience.

A great place to dig for actual dinosaurs! Walter and his family make you feel welcomed from the first moment you show up at the field station until the end when you leave with your dinosaur fossils. Walter shares his wealth of knowledge with you during the digs while you are finding and excavating dinosaur bones. It’s an all-around great experience.

My 12 year old daughter is very interested in becoming a paleontologist. She wanted to experience field work, but I really had no idea where to turn. Paleoadventures was there to save the day! We had an amazing time learning about dinosaurs, the formation, and how to be good stewards of scientific resources. Thank you for helping her learn and become even more excited about her chosen field! I would recommended the trip to anyone reasonably fit and interested in a fun, educational experience!

Paleo Adventures is the place to be for a high quality, one of a kind experience that is sure to thrill. The company offers the chance to dig actual dinosaurs fossils (Bones, claws, teeth, etc) which is a rare adventure within itself. Walter, his family and the rest of his team are all class acts with a lot of knowledge to share. A truly fascinating company that you should check out given the opportunity.

My daughter and I just took the trip yesterday and had a fantastic time. Walter and Heather are fantastic. They were very nice and helpful and did a great job combining the scientific side with a fun day. A full day sounds long but it flew by. It was fun to look for and find things.

This adventure is a great opportunity for both experienced and inexperienced fossil hunters. Walter is very patient and a wealth of information! Youre guaranteed to take home common fossils and probably help extract some more valuable ones as well to aid research efforts. We have made the trip from Missouri twice and cant wait to come back!

PaleoAdventures is by far the best company out there that offers the experience of digging for dinosaur bones in a fun and very cost efficient way. Walter and his crew ensures that you learn all about what fossils you may encounter in the Hell Creek formation of South Dakota, from gar scales to Tyrannosaurus teeth. You’ll receive a thorough crash course on how to properly expose, stabilize and extract fossils from the ground, with you actually being able to keep a lot of what you find! Common fossils can be kept, commercially valuable fossils can be purchased and scientifically significant fossils are reserved for purchase only by museums/scientific institutions for research. This makes PaloAdventures the best in my opinion when it comes to the ethics of commercial paleontology.PaleoAdventures provides an experience unlike any other and is bound to satisfy your itch for discovery.

For amateur and expert alike, Paleoadventures offers an exciting peek into the world of field paleontology. Guided by the patient and deeply knowledgeable Walter Stein, Paleoadventures gives participants a rewarding adventure. Slowly brushing away dirt and sand to reveal the purplish-brown of a 65 million year old bone or the dark shine of a T-Rex tooth creates memories of a lifetime! I started bringing my son to dig with Walter and have now found myself hooked! If there is one thing that should be on every person’s bucket list, this is it. Be a kid again and rediscover the magic of the dinosaurs!

M partial to PaleoAdventures because the owner is genuinely interested in the science. You only get to keep the common stuff with him. You may buy something you find from him if it is commercially valuable so he can pay his bills. Scientifically significant material stays with him and eventually makes its way to a museum with your name on it. I came home with a bunch of Triceratops teeth, Edmontosaurus teeth, a crocodilian vertebra, unidentifiable broken chunks of dino bone, fossil plants, gar fish scales, broken bits of turtle shell, a bit of Edmontosaurus tail tendon, a Nanotyranus/Juvenile T-Rex tooth (had to pay him for that one), and a bunch of cool mineral specimens. I managed to dig out a turtle shell that was 14 across, which is bound for a museum with my name as the finder and with the name I gave it - Bingo. Sitting next to me in the quarry was our host, who was busy excavating a T-Rex leg. You learn tons about paleontology well beyond just picking up fossils.

Paleoadventures is amazing! Walter Stein, Paleontologist, made digging for dinosaur bones interesting, educational and entertaining. He has a vast knowledge on all things dinosaurs and is willing to share that wisdom with others. The dig itself was rewarding, scholastic and stimulating, especially when we discovered some rare finds. Walter is patient with those seeking knowledge in his field. We are looking forward to our next family vacation and will seek out Paleoadventures for another fun experience. Our family would highly recommend Paleoadventures in South Dakota for your next paleontological dig! The Lyon Pack: Adam, Jessica, Alexander
