I love military museums but this one was different. It didnt give me that vibe or appreciation for the Marines (I am a Marine kid) until someone pointed out that the museum is true to its name- its about the history of the island and how the military came about and their influence since then. The upstairs is based on the Marines and the far right side near the gift shop is about boot camp.

The Parris Island Museum is great! It is well maintained has a beautiful layout and phenomenal staff. It is absolutely worth spending time in. If you are a history buff. I recommend you do not go on a Family Day because it will be so busy that you wont have be able to enjoy without getting stepped on or bumped into by a Recruits family.

Absolutely one of the beast museums in Beaufort. With a valid drivers license you can visit Paris island as a civilian, just tell them you are going to the museum. It has great relics and lots of information on the Marines history as well as history of the island going back several hundred years to Santa Elena which was one of the first settlements in North America from the east. The museum is also free and very nicely laid out in different sections. The original site of Santa Elena is also available to visit on Paris island and is located about 6 minutes away from the museum.

Very nice place to see the history of the U.S.A. since its colonial days to the present era. With uniforms of each period along with descriptions or other dialogue to inform you of their uses really gives you an insight into how much the country has made an impact in the global scene during that particular time makes you feel a sense of unity with the country and its upbringing. At least that was my take of it, better than any history class I ever took in middle or high school in terms of dates, events, legit artillery and etc for sure!
