Nice place to bring kids, educational and yet small enough to be engaging. Watch the videos and do the interactions with kids for added fun. The trails are maintained well so lots of opportunities for some good exercise.
Very neat little stop on our trip. Ranger Jess is a fountain of knowledge and gave us a lot insights about the Homestead Act and the surrounding areas.
Fantastic exhibit! Worth the time. Learned a lot!
Very interesting displays and friendly NPS staff. Dont miss the quilt display and old school house. Find your relatives homestead papers online!
Beautiful National Park Service Site. Well worth the visit. Unique and enlightening visitor center with several exhibits.
It is a history of the westward expansion of this great nation and an insight into how harsh our country was. This site also shines a light on the perseverance of mankind and the dedication to life and prosperity.
They do a good and balance job of telling about the effects of the Homestead Act on the people involved.
*cross-posted this review with the educational center just 1/4 mile away. Its worth a visit to both!*We werent sure if it would be worth the trip out of our way, but I wanted the stamp for my NP Passport. It was absolutely our favorite National Monument so far. All three sites (new center, original center, and schoolhouse) were well kept and well staffed. There were many short videos and audio guides that kept us all learning and listening. Our 6 year old loved exploring the prairie too. There were many paths to explore and a trail from one visitor center to the other. And both boys enjoyed becoming junior rangers through their guide book activities. (It was one of the best programs weve done, and weve made it to many parks!) The rangers were very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this site. You wont regret it.
Great museum and well suited for children. Be sure to watch the documentary.
Lots of good information on what took place. Fair and balanced as it gives a good account as to how badly the government treated the Native Americans.
Great place to learn about Nebraska History.
Ranger Hunter was awesome with my kids and the junior ranger program
Great place! My grandparents volunteered there for many years! Great history!
Loved this visit. Go with plenty of time to really look at the educational stuff. Its so very excellent.
This a must see. Well worth the stop even if you are just passing through Nebraska on I80. It turns out, most of our country was first occupied by homesteaders. At least take the time to watch the 20 minute video.
Very helpful staff at the visitor center. Nice place to visit. I wish I had more time here.
This is a lovely little park, full of interesting and educational attractions and hiking. We always see many wild birds and other animals. A must see if you have homesteaders in your family tree.
Great stop with lots of cool information.
American heritage at its best
A very interesting and different type of National Monumentthis Monument celebrates the homestead act and the effect it had on the westward expansion of the United States and Alaska
Very cool monument
See the video and talk to the rangers!
