Just an awesome place all around. We went on a quiet afternoon. We were 7 of the 11 people on board, including 2 of the USS Edsons original crew members. We went on a guided tour with Sailor who served on the Edson, who better to walk us through her! The crew and their stories were genuinely awesome and a great way to learn some history from those who were there. The Edson is a Forrest-Sherman Class Destroyer and saw action in Vietnam among other conflicts. The Ships horn works from the bridge and if youre polite and ask nicely, you may even get a chance to let it blast! The Air Search RADAR spins (but doesnt radiate...thankfully) The ship herself is well preserved and cared for by amazing volunteers. It was really a pleasure to get the opportunity to step foot on one of Michigans best surviving pieces of Naval History.

This Destroyer was first deployed for the Vietnam War. It was a museum in California for a good number of years. Then the USS Edson was put back into service for a few years before making her voyage to her home in Bay City. If your looming for a cool place to hang out and explore the boat this is it. I love this place 10 bucks per adult and 8 per kids 5-12? The price is minimal and the experience unforgettable!!!

Awesome tour for such a short notice. I have kids and, as always, ran late. For the price, location and, the history it offers; it was definitely worth it. A very special shoutout to the volunteer Eric. He was a very nice man. Put his years in the navy. He was awesome and kind to my daughters!

*Spoilers*It was awesome! We visited the Halloween event called The Edison Incident . It was $15 a person and we are a family of 4. So $60. It took about 20 minutes to make it through, which was super fun and a challenge! I think they should have a family bundle deal or discount on kids or something. It was definitely fun and scary but $60 is a bit much for 2 adults and 2 kids 13 and under. That being said, it was scary and the scarers definitely got me quite often, especially in the swamp part and with them doors! We havent seen the actual museum itself and I would definitely love to go back and see it without the decorations. I would recommend this to the people who are under 50 and above 10. Because it was scary and Im 31, kids may have nightmares, and its quite difficult to get around in even with the light they give you. The stairs are a challenge and come out of nowhere! This is definitely an awesome thing to do to have some fun for Halloween.

This ship is a marvel in itself, and truly worth the visit of Americana history is your thing, they also provide an attraction at halloween season that will chill you to the core. The launch docks close by however are in sad shape and desperately in need of an update and up keep to help keep bay city beautiful, if you plan to launch here, better expect to be tracking geese and duck poop onto your watercraft, or boat. The docks are outdated and in need of attention.

What an unexpected surprise yesterday when we arrived at the USS Edson. We were greeted by Carla at the front desk with a smile and warm welcome. We felt like we had met a new friend. She kindly explained a bit about what we would see once aboard the ship. We were told that it is a self guided tour but that we might run across a volunteer who would be happy to answer any questions. We weren’t more than 10 minutes in when our paths crossed.... The ship is known for having sprits and ghosts. We were both in deep thought thinking about the 74 soles that gave their all during a tour of Vietnam. I looked up and right in front of me was BILL.Bill is a volunteer ( he scared the bejesus out of me) After we stopped laughing we were treated to the most amazing private tour ever. Bill puts his whole heart and sole into sharing stories and tales. We felt like we had just received the best history lesson ever.We would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.

We stopped by the U.S.S. Edson on display in the Saginaw River during the Tall Ship Celebration 2016. We were on the way to visit the Saginaw River Rear Range Light and our shuttle bus stopped at the ship so we visited the ship on the way. It looks nice sitting in the river, and looks good even when it still needs some renovations. I thought it was very cute that their little landing craft on display was called Eds Son The ship is still being worked on but its worth the time to visit.

Was disappointed with all of the Halloween decorations left in the ship. Im assuming they did some sort of haunted tour. However, it took away from our experience. We were there to take in the history, not look at a bloody scene in the infirmary. Lots of areas to explore on the ship, though. For the most part, we enjoyed the tour.

I belong to the Edson-Kline-VanSlyke detachment of the Marine Corps League and the ship figures into our name. The ship is impressive. She made 12 tours in Vietnam and fired more 5 shells that any of our other ships. Our Detachment visited on Memorial Day in order to honor our fallen Brothers and Sisters with a prayer, rifle salute and Taps.

My husband and I went on Saturday and loved it! It’s amazing the USS Edson aka the Gray Ghost is still intact after the battles it’s been through in Vietnam. The ships galleys and passages are clearly marked. They have put up all kinds of signs describing each area so you get a very good idea what the sailors life was like at sea. They have it set up so you will get to see 95% of the ships areas! The crypto room was too cool! President of the museum Michael Kegley and a retired Navy man himself was there the day we went and he had so many fascinating historical stories about this vessel. He also answered a lot of questions my husband and I had. This is a great piece of history and a must see attraction! I didn’t add all my photos as it would spoil the intrigue of coming and seeing it for yourself.

The USS Edson is well loved by her Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum crew. Volunteers do regular hard work providing maintenance. Groups can arrange for overnight stays, however, the head (restroom for the landlubber) is located on the pier. A small fee is required to take a self guided tour. Take your time going through the ship, as ladders (think steep stairs) can be a challenge if one is not ready.
