Very quiet and peaceful. Nice and clean as well. There was a small beach where some younger kids were playing in the sand. Lots of Pokemon stops if you are into that kind of thing. We also found a fishing spot, so we will be returning.

A great place to take in some rays, splash around for a while, or relax with a picnic. Open 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

Used to be a good place to swim. Now not only do they charge you an entree fee...but they moved the beach over to a spot thats nothing but muck a few feet out. And do not allow swimming over by the willow tree. They also no longer allow fishing by theentrence...used to take my so. Fishing there all the time back in the day. The city ruined this place! Do yourself a favor and enjoy your time out at eagle lake at ft Custer.

Goguac Lake’s Willard Beach is not where I learned to swim, but it is where I learned to love the water. I took swimming lessons at Beadle Lake, between 4th and 5th grade under the stern tutelage of Dave McDill. That didn’t go so well, to be honest. But by that time, I had been enjoying Goguac Lake for years. I found that my own very reserved father was often most playful and fun when we were in the water. During the summer, he and I would go twice a week, stopping for ice cream cones at Howard Johnson’s afterwards.Willard Beach had interesting features which still awaken strong memories for me. There was a sidewalk instead of a beach in the southern-most section. I’d cross the lawn to the sidewalk and then lower myself - carefully - into the shallows. There were lots of pebbles under the waves.I remember happy family events above the beach, picnics and grilling at the top of a small hill. My cousins and I would run up and down the thin sandy paths between the bushes and trees. Sometimes a storm would rise in the west, and everybody would run for their cars. At other times, we would stay so late that we were the last to leave. These childhood memories are almost mythical now.Charles Willard, gentleman-farmer and lifelong bachelor, was one of Battle Creek’s most notable citizens by the time he died at age 69 in 1897. He founded Willard Library and donated the sixteen acres of prime land that became Willard Beach. More than a hundred and twenty years after his passing, his gifts continue to benefit the city of Battle Creek… and to enrich my memories, and my sense of myself. I tend to bristle, sometimes, when I think of the inequalities that underlie the largesse of the wealthy. In this case, I must admit, time and sentiment overcome all my misgivings, and leave only gratitude.
