Wonderful place to see a movie. New comfortable seats and digital screen. The inside is a magnificent old style Movie Palace. Is connected to a great deli style restaurant and yes you can bring the food and alcohol in to the theater. Great prices and also great special screenings. Its the kind of place you want to support. And by the way, the popcorn is amazing.

This is such a cool theater but the new owner is ruining it! The food was so much better when Bolognies was in business and the selection of movies was so much better. You could always count on being able to see a good “still in theaters “ movie but now all he’s showing is very old movies that are 20-40 years old and the “showtime” eatery is poor at best. Please sell the theater to someone who will bring back the old food and better movies !!

Beautiful historic theater. I went for the first time to see the original Phantom of the Opera. The silent film was accompanied by the organ. Go early and get some food or sit and have a drink! Seats are traditional style theater chairs, but theyre nice and wide so although theyre not the new age recliners theyre super comfortable.

We saw Its a Wonderful Life in a wonderful theater!!! It was a real treat to see a classic B & W film that you might not have been able to see when it was originally released in such a beautiful venue. While The Catlow Theater was built in 1927 and still has much of its original charm and beauty its far from antiquated. The seating was comfortable and the sound and projector systems both seemed to have been updated making the whole veiwing experience enjoyable. This was my first time visiting The Catlow and Im definitely looking forward to going again and hope to do so for some time...even if its to see one of those new-fangled Technicolor movies theyre making these days!!!Oh and FYI...the popcorn was delicious!!!

An experience all by itself. The building is a restored gem. Always showing interesting films. I see 10 films a year here, especially during and just after Awards Season. The staff is always polite and efficient. Parking can be a challenge on busy nights, but is available within a couple of blocks.

This is a cool theater owned by the citizens of Barrington. There is only one theater and the people vote on which movie to play. Movies don’t stay long as you can imagine. The theater is a restored building (I believe it was originally a cinema but I’m not sure). Feels like you’re a local when you visit. Really fun!

(Feb 2019) Catlow, you need to get your act together! We came in for the Tuesday matinee today, and when we got in the theater the ads were playing with no sound. Eventually I got up and told one of the workers to turn the sound on, and she said it would be on when the movie came on. Well, when the movie finally did come on, the sound was still off and I had to tell her again to turn the sound on. She then told me they would restart the movie. We waited 10 minutes through the movie in silence. It did not restart, but at least they turned the sound back on. We missed the first 10 min of the film! Also, a while back I saw a movie there, and it actually started early, which made me miss the first beginning of that movie, as well! (5 years ago) Just what everyone here has said... great PRICE, incredible atmosphere, quality food! The only down side is that there is only ONE of it! :-)

Been here once or twice when I lived in Illinois an hour away. Still remember it years later as I loved it. The 1st thing that caught my eye and I loved, was how old it looked inside. It was decorated in an era way before my time but was not run down for its age. I felt like I walked back in time. I could almost imagine 1800s shows to 1920s Charleston dances on the original stage with a piano on the corner for the music. The movies were priced great and were not old weve seen these types. If I ever visit Barrington again, I would love to see how it looks today and whats playing.

The Catlow is just an amazing old theater where local come to see $5 movies. Its origins were early in the 20th century when it was built as a glamorous silent movie house. Its interior has been restored, while not perfectly, well enough that you can get a feel of what it must have been like way back then. After a successful round of fundraising, they avoided closing their doors by raising enough money to buy a digital projector. They were in some danger of closing as the newer films are being released in digital format, phasing out film, and making their projection equipment obsolete. As I understand it, the new equipment can be very expensive. But, the community came together to keep this valuable part of the local culture alive. I believe their next step is another round of fundraising to replace their aging seats. We went to see Argo, the new movie about the CIAs top secret hostage rescue during the 444 day Iranian hostage crisis that was resolved in 1981. I wont review the film here, but if you remember those times, it is a great film to go see. With near first run showings, the Catlow is a fine value that delivers a great experience. Where else can you go to see top movies at $5 surrounded by 1920s memorabilia?

The heart of Barrington. One large historic theater with large screen and digital projectors.
