Lovely Lane UMC invited us to have our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., backpacking event that provides sufficient food for a family of three over the weekend. They opened up their doors to AKA Sorority and Jack and Jill Foundation who works and donates the food with us that last year we produced almost 10,000 meals that were immediately given away to Baltimore City Public Schools, Langston Hughes Community Center, Manna House, Inc., and others and this year they will open up their doors again and we will attempt to produce even more food for the homeless in this city. They are a caring and wonderful congregation that works in our community of Old Goucher to provide so much and we, at Hearts Place Services, Inc. love them.

World-class art museum. I especially enjoyed the Asian collection and the Northern Renaissance paintings. Their special exhibition of Impressionist paintings was also enjoyable.

The oldest congregation of methadist worshipers in the United States, hence why its called the mother of American Methodism. Its name came from the churches original location which was down a long dirt lane that dead ended at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Lovely. The new church was built before the city had extended to the current location and folks were concerned that nobody would travel out to the country to attend church services on Sundays, however it was built anyway, and people did show up. The church is beautiful and extremely large..there is so much room in fact that when other churches in Baltimore move or close, its the common storage facility for church records... Another interesting fact is that when young adults are ready to continue with their adult religious studies, they come to lovely lane as part of the tradition of chosing maintain the path of a methadist and they attend a service here before being sent back home to accept Methodism as their lifelong religion. ***All are welcome to attend services and following Sunday service, a tour of the church is offered along with a fellowship coffee hour...food is provided. I must mention that the congregation and the current pastor are but the nicest most endearing, accepting and welcoming committee of church goers in the city of Baltimore (in my experience....that is) they make newcomers feel at home and look forward to seeing them the following Sunday. It is a church of faith and they do wonders for making church fun, uplifting, yet staying with tradition..you cant go wrong by visiting lovely lane one Sunday morning...youll be talking about it all week and looking forward to next Sunday no matter what faith or religious beliefs you keep. God bless.

Established as a congregation in 1772, Lovely Lane was host to the famous Christmas Conference of 1784 at which the Methodist Church was formed as an independent denomination. Today, it is a warm, active congregation dedicated to worship and service. At once both a national landmark and a local church.
