The Y has done an awesome job since they re-opened June 1st with the spacing and repositioning the machines. The staff has always been helpful and with a smile. They disinfect the equipment often and I feel safer going now then before this Covid-19 with all the safety guidelines that they have implemented. Also, its been great to get back to continue my routine again! Thank you YMCA !!!!!!

I started coming to the YMCA a few months ago and its my absolute favorite gym by far. The staff is so nice and helpful, the child watch room is so great and they are so good with my kids. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone! The machine and equipment are always available no matter what time I go also.

I was not pleased how when I came to the YMCA as a member I was not allowed to bring in a guest under the age of 18 because I am also under 18. If a younger person can have their own pass then I do not see why they cant bring their peers in as guests. I understand where they may be coming from but I feel they are majorly contradicting themselves. And then they continued to treat us unfair, giving us attitude and mocking us. We offered to buy a day pass but they said. Its more than your willing to pay

The group classes are great. As far as cleanliness goes, this is probably the cleanest YMCA in the area. Most of the cardio machines and weight machines were just updated... for the good and bad. The new Elliptical machines only allow you a max of a half hour workout which is a bummer. I love taking spin class. I especially love cycle sculpt with chaffy! I only wish this branch would update the spin bikes because they’ve seen their better days.

I especially love spinning (Shelly’s spinning 101 got me hooked and I have done other spin classes as well, so fun), Frankie’s Hip Hop on Sunday and Renee’s Zumba are so much fun. Fairly new member. I do enjoy the AquaZumba class in the evenings. In fact, if not for that class, I would rate the facility lower than I did.My take is, if youre a person who works normal business hours and you want to do anything in the pool or take classes, youre pretty much out of luck. (Id look carefully at the classes they do offer before you decide to fork over your money to join. Most of whats offered after work and evenings is not for those trying to get fit.) Ive brought this to their attention and gotten many excuses but so far, see nothing being done to address the issues. The rec pool is often closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 8 PM (right after the aqua zumba class). Its the warmer of the two pools and its difficult to figure out what lanes you can use in the bigger pool since swim team has practice etc. It makes me not want to take the chance that the pool wont be open during its supposed adult open times in the early AM.As I tried to tell them, if the only thing open to me is the machine room, then I can go to Planet Fitness and pay for 2-4 months of time there, plus get free fitness trainers for the same price. (They dont really seem to care about my opinion, so I doubt Ill renew my membership when its due unless things change drastically.)

Overpriced and not managed very well especially second floor. Broken equipment rarely gets fixed. Blasting music coming from cycling room and at times, large classroom can be heard throughout the second floor and even downstairs by the front door. I can no longer recommend any cycling classes. They dont care if they disturb the other classes, child watch and personal training room. Policy states they are supposed to close the cycling room door during classes but they dont. This facility does not follow International Fitness Association guidelines. IFA says that room temperature should always be under 50% humidity and between 65-68 degrees. It is never either of these. Noise levels should always be under 85 dB but it isnt. If you have to raise your voice to someone at arms length, the noise level is above 85 dB.

I am very disappointed with the class offerings. Almost every class I am interested in is only offered during hours when Im at work. The director (Katie Blodorn) told me that they cant find instructors who will teach evening classes. I had three (3) trainers tell me they had class ideas they wanted to teach in the evening and were not allowed to put them on the schedule! (Ill withhold their names so as not to get them into trouble.) Someones lying!!!Fit after 50/Fitness after 50: only during the day. (Does everyone retire at 50? I must be doing something wrong since I cant afford to retire until sometime after age 60.) Tai Chi--only during the day (This is one of the classes I was told someone wants to teach in the evening and was told no they wont schedule it.) Chair Yoga--only during the day. Water classes--only one at night and its a great class--but all the rest are during the day.I can walk on a treadmill or use an elliptical or stationary bike any number of places--many cheaper or the same price as the Y and be just as bored on them there as I am at the Y. So what am I paying all those $ for exactly??? Apparently it is to fund scholarships for all the people who dont work so that they can come take the classes I want to take at times I am not available to take them.

I find all of the negative reviews comical. I have been a member for about 6 months and love it here! The staff is so friendly and good at making quick small talk. I have never had a negative experience with anyone. The facility itself is well maintained and clean. I travel for work and have been to 4-5 other Ys in other states/cities... the Avon Y is easily my favorite. I think everyone needs to reevaluate.. nobody is forcing you to be a member! Take your kid somewhere else for swim lessons and take a step down off your soapbox.

I dont have a membership because its over-priced and I cant afford it with all my other monthly expenses so I pay the $10 visiting fee every time I go. And now I have to leave early when trying to enjoy basketball with my friends because I dont have a membership. Its embarrassing and I feel like Im being punished for absolutely nothing. This is a Christian Organization not some high class gym. Things have changed here. For worse and not better. Me and my friends have decided to go elsewhere. And they are/were members.

Overpriced, hardly any staff that is willing to work for the low pay. Especially the aquatic department. We have been members for 6 months and everytime we try to take our children for a swim, they say sorry we have no staff. Review №45

I wish google would allow me to give this ZERO stars. I have been a member of the Y for a few years now and up until now its been mediocre. The recent change in upper management and ELIMINATION of an extremely successful swimming program has completely changed my view of this company as a whole. I will continue to be a member but I will not recommend this place to anyone. The copy and pasted responses on the other reviews coming from corporate are a joke on this matter. If you think your pools are so popular then maybe Ill upload a photo of the EMPTY pools at this facility. I have used your world class swim lessons in the past and I can tell you that I can teach my kids how to swim better in our own bath tub. Why would I pay someone to teach my kids how to blow bubbles and sit on the side of a pool? You may have standards for your instructors, but the ones that Ive seen at this Y are more concerned about their snacks and social media than the kids they are teaching. I intentionally chose to use the Liquid Lifestyles (Thom Parson specifically) company to teach my children how to swim because I felt like they were actually learning how to survive in a pool if something happened. I am so very upset that this company was forced to leave this facility because of ONE woman who probably has not seen them and what they strive to achieve and who thinks she knows everything. I dont want you to send me the same BS response to these comments. Its not just about the children who are losing WORLD CLASS teaching, its the instructors themselves who this woman has no regard for their well being. She feels that it isnt her problem. If the Y is all about the community, then make sure you include ALL members. If you have something you would like to say, please do so in person and dont hide behind this platform. I would gladly meet with upper management about this. Your door is always open comment is another load of BS. Ive called many times and have been shuffled to voicemail, and I have walked in only to be told no one is here. ??????? I stand my ground on this and I will continue to pursue action until action is taken. If you are at all concerned with your members, then do something. Dont just respond to this with another wonky copy paste from corporate jargon......, DO SOMETHING! Change something, fire someone and make this better.

My family belonged to this Y for over 3 years. We over paid for services that were just not worth it. The yoga classes were a joke and the timing of everything was even less desirable. The ONLY benefit that came out of our membership was when I started bringing my 3 month old son to the pool. From those visits, we met Coach Thom with Liquid Lifestyles. His love for teaching was so apparent that I had to get my son started with him as soon as possibIe. I had no intention of EVER putting my son in the Y swim lessons as their coaches do not possess the training to properly teach. Their instructors are either very young and or old with horrible attitudes! My step-daughter took lessons for multiple sessions and gained no additional skill that did not just come with time and getting older. My son is now 28 months and has been in swim lessons with coach Thom the entire time until abruptly being told we not only have to move lessons due to the Y and Ms Goblirsch stating Liquid Lifestyles is no longer welcome at the Y. But also due to the overwhelming popularity and now limited pool access my son has to switch Coaches. All because of one womans decision to be jealous of the fact the only benefit to this Ys swim program were that Liquid Lifestyles was available! **Extremely DISSATISFIED Mom

I am wondering who the hell hired the staff because they are completely oblivious and extremely rude. I do not like this ymca since it cost too much on a monthly basis and is NOT worth it. The basketball courts are constantly occupied with children’s activities, the personal trainers are a complete joke, and the the programs they put on are a waste of time. I would rate this hell hole 0 stars if it gave me the option. Also, terrible business hours; apparently they close early when they feel like it.

Very disappointed, similar to many of the other comments posted here. We were weekly patrons of both French Creek and the Westshore facilities for the past few years specifically for access to both of our girls to swim with Thom Parsons and the other coaches from Liquid Lifestyles. It was so apparent how much more progress our girls were making on a week to week basis that other parents were asking us for information on how to get their kids into Liquid Lifestyles classes. The company was asked to leave the Y on short notice over the holidays this year, resulting in all this negative feedback. The Y may have thought that we would stay on for lessons but clearly they were mistaken. I cant imagine this kind of feedback from the loss of any other instructor(s) associated with the YMCA. If they have any sense, they should call Liquid Lifestyles back immediately to fill their pools, since as of right now Im sure there are plenty of openings...

This gym has unsafe workout spaces without any signs or warnings not to workout there! I fell and could have seriously hurt myself with the slippery floors in the equipment area where the bosu balls, plyo boxes, step benches etc are located! When I asked about this I was told “nobody ever works out there-people only go there to stretch”. The last thing anyone needs is a dangerous workout area! I should have known from the other reviews posted about this facility. Not up to YMCA standards! I travel around the country and have not visited a worse Y.

The timing is terrible. If you work and have responsibilities then you will never find time to use any part but the weightroom. They constantly have programs going on in the gym and pool so you cant use either most of the time because of programs. I have two kids and because of there hours for programs neither one can go and swim or just play basketball. They are in the school by day and I work at 5 in the morning so swimming or playing basketball 8pm to 10pm when there bed time is 9 pm on school days. They get out of school at 3 and have dinner by 4 but programs start at those times in both the pool and gym. So when are you to use the membership plus I called today to see if there is open gym I am told yes I drive there just in time to be told no bc of the jr. Cavs and swim lessonns. Also they are only open till 5 on the weekend when I have says off. I really think they be open longer on weekends and do more programs on those days.

Review №58

Over priced since there is 1 adult sports league (if theyre lucky to have enough for mens B-ball) unlike other YMCAs, the weight room thermostat is useless so its steaming in the summer and freezing in the winter, they close up earlier in the summer so shorter hours from June 1- Sept 5 yet no reduced cost for customers, they close an HOUR early every Friday for Crushers home games for fireworks and dont offer a rebate for reduced hours, no leg straps for cable machines gotta buy and bring your own, cable machines broke half the time and take forever to repair, basketball courts always seem tied up with kids programs, and gotta bring your own volleyball (they wont buy new ones, got flat old ones) when they actually had open volleyball years ago, not anymore... Plenty of TVs though to catch the game while you workout.

Review №59

I am thoroughly disgusted with the Cleveland area YMCAs. Being the parent of a child with special needs comes with its own set of daily challenges. One of the bright spots of our week, every week for the past three years, has been bringing our child to The French Creek YMCA to take lessons from his swim coach/instructor. Our amazing instructor is employed by Liquidlifestyles swimming which partnered with with the YMCA to do lessons in the Ys Pool. We were informed just a few days ago that our child is no longer welcome in this facility as Liquidlifestyles was abruptly told that they are no longer welcome to do business within the YMCA association as of January 1st 2018. Ms. Goblirsch, who I understand was the main proponent and supporter of this decision should explain to my son why he can no longer come to his beloved lessons. Don’t tell me that you (the Y) has instructors that he could go to. I’ve seen what the Y has to offer. No thanks! Our coach is specifically trained and has built a deep and loving report with our child over these three years. There is now absolutely no reason for my family to ever step foot in another YMCA. Should my younger child want to play soccer or basketball or flag football, we will find those programs elsewhere. Disgusted Avon Lake
