I have never been to the Vortex before, but I went last night to see the Performance Park and it was phenomenal! I highly recommend it if you want to experience an edgy interactive theatre adventure! I had so much fun!

Have loved and will always love this hub of independence in performance. Love live the Vortex! (Also, Andy makes the best old fashioned, do yourself a favor)

The Italian food truck is beyond good. They make everything from scratch. The butterfly bar is a great place to hang out. The events here are always great too.

This is a great place to just hang out. The Wife and I love to go here when they have their Witches Market. The space is open and comfortable and has a very cool vibe.

Patrizis is the best pasta place Ive ever been. A food truck that serves gourmet fresh pasta! The outdoor seating is very family friendly, and the atmosphere is lovely for a date or a small party. The butterfly bar serves fantastic cocktails, and all profits support the Vortex theater, a non-profit.

Such a pretty place. Very cozy and quiet. Great place for a drink and sitting by the fire.

This place is a great representation of Austin. They do the weirdest shows here but also really good ones. It would be fun to walk in on any night, and you would be guaranteed a good time. varying degrees of it, but Ive never seen anything outright bad here. The butterfly bar is a great addition, they even do you a butterfly festival annually. The often do a lot of sales or fairs like the witches market outside in front.

I love the shows, the bar and patrizis the Italian food truck I’m the courtyard is so tasty. There’s plenty of room for everyone and a fire to sit around at night.

It is a fun place where events are held. I went to the Drum event there. Where my daughters capoeira class was preforming for the occasion. They have an indoor restroom in the bar area but the cool stuff is outside. Luckily it was a wonderful day.

Very cool concept and place. We love the patio and the atmosphere. Couple of the bartenders were not nice, that is why I gave 3 starts. They should more polite.

A unique venue with wonderful events all year round. A great way to spend the day or end the night.

This is an amazing space and I love the markets they host here. Outside is gorgeous, with carefully tended plants and a beautiful waterfall/fountain/doorway. They have covers for most their tables and everyone is extremely kind.

For sure an interesting place to checkout. The butterfly bar and Italian food truck combo makes for a great environment.The performance theater itself is wonderful to see. An interesting concept and a place I always take my friends from out of town.Great location for a date-night and/or just casual people watching.

Unique and intimate performance area. Its easy to miss at times but the place is set up well and holds less than 50 people. Small performances and plays show there but you feel a part of the action because the close proximity to the actors.

The Vortex is one of Austins hidden gems. A small box theater that supports all of Austins art from performance art to art shows to burlesque. Its courtyard has some of Austins best Italian food at Patrizis and the Butterfly Bar has excellent cocktails and a good wine selection. The staff is always very friendly and courteous. Great for a casual night out or a fun show, I cannot recommend the Vortex enough.

I wish I could give it less, it was my first time there and honestly I was very disappointed. The bar tender didnt even greet me, I am feeling like customer service is out the door these days. What happened to getting to know people and relating, talking about what place you represent, it wasnt even packed, so plenty of time to make conversation,. Instead I was insisted out the door when I felt the place was not as expected. Too bad.

A very unusual place. Been to several performances here and enjoyed them all, even when some times I end up outside my comfort zone. The theater hosts are great and the small stage connects you closely with the actors.

One of the last neighborhood theatres in Austin. It hosts many kitschy-cool events and experimental projects. It has an outdoor gathering area and food. Worth visiting.

Great I mean great place to go see theater that you cant see anywhere else. Original and the cast is always good. Bonnie does a great job .

A great place to hold a music festival!

The Mamalogues was an amazing play.

80 seat theater always featuring plays that push the edge. Comfortable seats. Bar. Italian food truck shares the property. Parking can be a challenge.

This place is keeps my Austin original and weird. They have so many great events every month. Plays, bands, witches markets and other assorted and strange meetings.

I went in for burlesque show. The show was amazing. Its kind of a dingy space, I guess that give it its charm and character. The stage is done up very well. Drinks are meh, expensive but not outrageous for such a venue. Good time all around. Bar takes cards, but events tend to be cash only.

Pushing the boundaries of theater for over 25 years.

The shows here are original, meaningful, and speak to your soul. I dont think I have aeen anything yet that hasnt made me cry at least once, and I laugh during sad scenes at the movies. Everyone is very community driven and friendly here. Definitely make time to stop in for a show, or even a cocktail at the Butterfly Bar.

I was there for a seance. It was a nice place, I want to go back. Plus they had three cats!!!

This place almost seems like a hidden gem. There is a small theater inside in which they show films. I have also seen an outdoor performance here and both the film and the outdoor performance were quite unique and very Austin. Unfortunately, there is limited indoor seating, but there is outdoor seating available as well.

Odd to say this bastion of boundry pushing and innovative theater is an Austin staple, but such is the case. Go early to enjoy a cocktail from the Butterfly Bar, or a fabulous meal from the renowned Pratizis. A great date spot, neighborhood center and original theater...an Austin treasure!

The Vortex is an iconic and fantastic place to go whether you want to see art, theatre, music, eat, drink, socialize, etc. I love it every time Im there and always run into ppl I know.

An Edgy and Quirky theatre on the East Side. The talented writers, actors, and actresses consistently bring productions to this intimate theatre which make audiences smile and laugh. Their indoor theater is quaint and intimate, and they also have an outdoor stage for productions.TIP: Parking lot available. Additional parking at Home Steam Cleaners and Clean Sweep after 7pm.

Awesome theater, very cool vibe

Their bruschetta and Garlic Bread is awesome. Loved it. However I find their pasta to be on the dry side.

Relaxed atmosphere, good drinks, great food with Patrizis in the middle of the outside area.

Every seat is a great seat. Plus each time that Ive watched a play, I enjoyed it.

Definitely one of my preferred local theater communities. Great setting, provocative choices, reasonably priced.

First time visiting the Vortex was for Surf by Surf East during SXSW weekend. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Butterfly Bar was awesome and I dug the surf music and bands. Will definitely go back.

Butterfly Bar has great cocktails and Patrizis pasta is out of this world. Try the Diavolo.

Lovely venue

Cool place and great food trailer outside. I love how Austinites like to express themselves. Its keep Austin weird on steroids with a cool factor, you never know whats going to walk in, a cool hippy family, people dressed like they are from outer space, a older couple meeting friends out for dinner or a group of hipsters or a group of preppy kids. If you like people watching and great food, this is the place to go.

I always enjoy the shows here. I have seen many shows and will continue to attend.

A vital part of the local theater community, Vortex Rep. Co. is also home to The Butterfly Bar, which is itself home to Patrizzis Italian food truck. The Vortex is much more than a playhouse. It is a center of art, learning, community, and entertainment for the whole city. With regular drum circles and the occasional open mic as well as regularly produced (and often never-before-seen) stage plays and theatre, Vortex is essential to the life of art and performance in Austin. Additionally, The Vortex offers an annual Summer Youth Theatre program while school is out, the better to train young performers and make them a part of the community. With the theatre headed by artistic directors Bonnie Cullum and Rudy Ramirez, The Vortex is home to a wide array of B. Iden Payne & Austin Critics Table award winning actors and productions, often even including those associated with the childrens program. Always a wonderful place to spend your money and your time.

This is my home base. It has theatre shows like youve never seen, great musicians, the Butterfly Bar, Patrizis food truck, and the Sno-cone truck.Parking lot gets super full, and can be frustrating though, but its worth it.

The perfect example of an Austin fringe theatre- great outdoor space, a bar, a food truck and hula hoops everywhere. One of my favorite places to see a show, or just hang out for a while.

We attended the Austin Piazolla Quintent concert here and loved it. The event space is cozy, but what we werent expected was that its a bar with a fantastic outdoor space and yummy Italian food truck as well.

The butterfly bar was great, the food truck fantastic! The outdoor music and ambience was perfect!
