This studio museum was amazing to explore. Love Elisabet Ney and her husbands history. The studio she designed was equally impressive. Her clay sculptures were beautiful, including the last piece she had worked on before she died, Prometheus! This place is a must for anyone visiting Austin. Architecture was incredibly designed and built by her, totally functional and resembled a small castle.

Such a fun little museum. They have a lot original plaster casts and a couple marbles. The building and lot were awesome with secret doors and a bookcase door that we got to look at. The kids loved all the secrets. Nice little contemporary show of wall art in one room that is has rotating shows.

Free to public..museum had docent (guides) to help you around or if you want to go alone cheat sheets. I love the fact its free and about a female artist that I didnt ever hear about before. Please go to the web site and vote for them. More of these hidden gems need to be saved. No bathrooms..and staircases to climb.

My daughter and I visited Elisabet Ney Museum on our mother daughter weekend. I grew up in Austin and went to UT but never to this museum. We really enjoyed the sculptures, and learning about Elizabeth Ney. Theres a nice walk down to the creek behind the museum. If you enjoy Texas history and art this is a must stop location and Austin. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and welcomed us warmly and answered all of our questions. I plan on coming back.

The passion shared by the staff is contagious. Elisabet Ney was not only an interesting trailblazer but a fantastic artist. The understated architecture of her home and studio is a testament to the Germans in Texas. The collection of her art made in Europe and the latter collection made in Texas contain many exquisite sculptures. A divine island of tranquility in the city. Perhaps the most underrated museum in the city.

The Elisabet Ney Museum is a historical time capsule in the heart of Hyde Park. The building original building was Neys studio and home for many years. It features unique architecture of wood and stone masonry from the early 1900s. Inside you can find a collection of Elisabets tools, cast statues, and other artistic endevors.

This was such a delightful surprise of a museum. It is small but packed with sculptures and art if the late Elisabet Ney. Our guide was packed full of information and passion about the artist. She happily gave us an inside to the cutting edge, unique mind of the owner. We learned so much and finished off with some sculpting of our own outdoors on the grounds. Dont let the exterior fool you, there is a trove of treasure within.

Upon my entrance to the Elizabeth Ney Museum the staff graciously provided a comprehensive overview of the artist’s life and times. Her work shows the visual strength of classical figurative training over a life of prolific portraiture. I look forward to returning to the Ney.

Beautiful, original home and grounds of Elisabet Ney. Lots of exhibitions of her work. Some originals, some copies. Reflects her life, times and work. Entry is free. Well worth the effort and time.....besides how often do you find thius kind of quality education and visual displays for free.

Unusual for a museum, you can get quite a feel for the people who once lived here. Elizabeth Ney kept her homes as simple and rustic as she could, leaving stone walls rough and worn floors unfinished. She might picnic on fine linens and silver, but the buildings remained a bit wild. It does not feel like a place clinically clean and preserved, but an environment conducive to art and creativity.

Small museum, but very nice and full of information and sculptures. The woman working was very knowledgeable, greeting everyone that came in and telling them about Elizabet Ney, and she has lots of information to give for any questions you might have. Elizabet was quite an interesting person and I strongly recommend visiting here if you are in Austin, especially since the museum and parking are free.

This museum is beautiful. There are so many pieces of amazing work shown inside and the home/castle itself is beautiful. The only thing I would do differently is have information about Elizabet Ney. Maybe have a room set up the same way she did, or just a room about our her life and history in general. We couldnt find any information really about her in the house. We will definitely be back in the future.

An artistically independent woman before societies accepted such characteristics in a female. Abundantly talented and charismatic personality with a determined character...as she swayed many kings and dignitaries to sit long and numerous sittings for her to sculpt them. The castle is a treasure filled with her sculptures she created when she and her husband resided there beginning at the turn of the century.

For one thing, this was my Grandfathers Best friend when he was growing up. They lived next door to each other and played together all day every day sculpting. And that is all my Grandfather did his whole life. He ended up getting married and having 9 children. When the Depression came and people couldnt afford the Luxury of buying Art, he started making Tombstones. He carved all the Beautiful Roses, Flowers, Leaves, Letters and Scrollwork on the Tombstones to support his family. He and Elizabeth remained friends their whole lives.
