AFS is one of my favorite places in Austin. Its a smaller more intimate theater that screens quality films and documentaries. I always recommend people visit.

This theater is the epitome of what cinema is about. The Austin Film Society is serious about the art of filmmaking and supporting films that are anything but mainstream. Not to mention that the theater is artfully decorated with a beautiful bar, and a decent snack selection.

Very east-side and artsy feel movie theater. Very clean, sophisticated. The drinks were high quality and the popcorn had an option to include real butter on it. Yum. I liked that they had vegan baked goods for sale too though I wish I had seen some gluten free desserts. The movie was beautiful and moving. I cried at least 3 different times.

Saw Kikis Delivery Service, ate some awesome bottomless popcorn and ate reasonably priced candy. The inside of the theater is gorgeous and theres a full bar. They also serve ice cream, sandwiches and other movie theater snacks. The theater was large with comfortable seats. Overall great experience and a fun way to see oldies but goodies on a big screen!

Great spot to catch some awesome movies! They have screenings for a wide variety of films like international, local, independent, classics, etc. The spot itself is pretty cool, located in the back of the shopping center by Pluckers, and they offer the usual fixings like popcorn and candy. This location also offers a few local drafts, usually some really good ones like 512 and ABW including some batches made exclusively for them, along with a full bar. Definitely worth checking this place out for a cool night out or just a chill afternoon.

First off, it’s impossible to find this place since somebody decided to put it in a strip mall in the middle of nowhere. Second, they seem to show a random mix of obscure movies that range in quality from unwatchable to mediocre and another batch of movies that Alamo already played 3 months prior. Very disappointed but the coffee was good so three stars for that

What a lovely place to share extroardinary stories. Highly reccomend the diverse old and new films shown here. I saw Iron orchard on a night the director, screen writer, & actors were there including the son of the original author. The bar had cocktils and beer/wine and was in a large open entry room for milling and enjoying company before and after a show. From Western attire to fur coats it was a country elegant evening.Arrive early for parking (free).

This is absolutely one of the best cinema houses in Austin. Their programming is top notch, and I love how the lobby is decorated with retro film posters. I recently enjoyed watching a remastered version of Hayao Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky here. They often provide opportunities to see classic films on the big screen. The staff is super friendly and the concession items are affordable as well. If you’re a film buff in Austin, then you need to visit the Austin Film Society Cinema.

A cinephiles cinema. A big classy theater with modern design, friendly staff, and programming thats eclectic & arcane. Im reminded of the sort of movies that ran in UT auditoriums in the evenings on the days before VCRs. AFSs calendar is immune to the mass conformity of McHollywood, and instead offers classic European movies, daring experimental films, &, yes, Hollywood but older classics like Bye Bye Birdie. If huge chorus line productions about an Elvis figure getting drafted arent your thing, theres also that psychedelic American motorcycle Odyssey, Easy Rider. I caught the new anime film, Weathering with You, which is hard to find, but thanks to AFSs inclusive programming, the film had an Austin venue.

This past weekend AFS hosted Austin Asian American Film Festival. The final afternoon, I attended the showing of Soni written and directed by Ivan Ayr. It was a powerful film focusing on 2 female police officers and their lives and work. The setting was New Delhi, India. It was intense and thought provoking. The AFS lobby is welcoming and accommodating for a pre- or post-film meal or snack. The concessions area offers a generous menu of food, beverages, and some choices of alcohol with bistro seating.

Great selection of International movies. Armchair movie critics welcome here! If you like Alamo Drafthouse, youll love AFS Cinema. They feature several screenings from the renowned studio Ghibli, and other great selections from international critics choice lists. For frequent moviegoers, an AFS membership might be something to consider - get invited to special shows & save a few bucks along the way for movies that youre yet to love. They have a bar selection & concessions - some food for thought (paired with a drink or two, perhaps). Well be coming back again.

The theater is nice but the concession stand needs to get it together. Ordered a “large” popcorn which was TINY and not much bigger than the small. It took about ten minutes for them to bring it out to me, and when they did, I could smell it was burnt. It didn’t have any salt on it so I asked them for some because they didn’t have any out. I was handed kosher salt that didn’t stick to the popcorn and just sank right to the bottom. It’s a movie theater, you’d think they’d be able to do popcorn right.....nope.

Prior to the Austin Asian American Film Festival, I had only been here for the Blue Genie Bazaar. This place is surprisingly nice and flexible for events. The theater is large and clean. Its amazing what the Austin Film Society has done with the formerly seemingly doomed Lincoln theater (and makes me wonder, why is the other one across the parking lot still empty?) Sure, the seats could be better but that kinda overhaul comes at a price, so you guys, seriously go here to see the revivals and art house films that the AFS theater has on rotation. Great beer selection, some crafty cool snacks, neat interior design...its all much better of a fix than I would have expected, to be sure. I saw the 4k Suspiria re-release there and it did NOT disappoint with the quality of the projection or sound.
