A gigantic state park with a lot to offer! As a runner, I definitely enjoyed taking the trails to loop around the reservoir (which is huge!). There are different sceneries to enjoy, from beaches to woods to low meadows. Restrooms are plenty along the trail, although there might be just one water fountain so make a hydration plan ahead. There are several entrances and parking lots to the park/the water, the most visited ones have direct access to the beach, picnic areas with BBQ stands. While its 12 miles away from the city center, measured by the Cherry Creek Trail, its connected to urban life by light rail line H at the Nine Mile Station, which is a little over a mile away from the beach.

Great place for kids of all ages! They help inexperienced and experienced alike. Love seeing the staff retention. Over the years Ive come to know the staff. I learned to shoot a rifle and took firearm safety class there. I can speak to the 5 stand and trap fields. Great setup. Conveniently located and awesome staff. I always bring a tip for the young adults doing field safety and pulling. Not sure if its expected, but they do a darned fine job with safety while being super friendly.

I went boating and jet skiing here with a large group and the 2 rental folks that worked with us was simply awesome! It was 30 something degree weather, so not a lot of people out in the waters. Overall, we had so much fun and I recommend anyone to come by and try it out! I cant imagine if we came when it was warmer, it wouldve been double the fun!

Its our new weekend destination. We usually spend most of the time at the swim beach. The sand is almost clean and kids love to play there. Water is shallow enough for kids, unless they go too far from the shore. The day pass costs $11. Get an annual pass if you have plans to visit often.

Cherry Creek Park is a sanctuary between the heart of Denver and surrounding suburbia. Tonight I went out there and saw a beautiful sunset over water, after a one-of-a-kind experience with a Nelsons Sparrow (rare for this area) that had found its way onto this beautiful scene. Unforgettable!

Enough surface to explore whether it be cycling, walking, paddle boarding etc., Dogs are welcomed. You can even rent paddle boards. Bathroom by the beach and areas with shade and without for picnicking or barbecue. Birdwatching is amazing too. Some parts have no shade and on a hot day carry your water and dress accordingly especially for animals.

If you only fish once or twice a year or you cant figure out a way to get out of the city to do some real camping (maybe you have kids or something), this place is a great facsimile for the real thing. But for someone like me it is pretty terrible. Too much white water wake, too many kids, too many noisy people to really enjoy most of the area. The gun range is pretty archaic too. If it were free to enter I would go back, but it isnt so I probably wont return except under certain circumstances.

An
Review №28

Pro-tip: The lake water here is runoff from hundreds of miles of private land. Its a greenish brown hue. If youre seeking a clean body of water to swim in head over to Aurora Reservoir (same price but city owned). They pump their water in from the mountains so its cold, but clean and clear. That aside, Cherry Creek State Park is a fantastic place with great walking trails and beautiful rolling hills. Theres boat rentals and a bar and grill at the marina. I was so impressed upon entering into the park that I bought an annual CO state park pass.

There is so much for so many, for so little.Come contribute to all the fun and leisure.Bring your bike, bring your boat, bring your dog, bring your horse. That is correct. Even horses have trails here.Only $11 buys you a pass that lasts all day, and even onto the next day; pending what time you come.

We stayed in the Gold Rush Loop Campground. Full hook up. Site was long and ample, good for big rigs. We travel in a 43 Class A Motorhome. It was clean and overall good. However, Park is very accessible by foot and car 24/7. We rode our bikes in their Main Trail and saw a few tents with messy belongings and trash by the streets outside the park. Not a pleasant sight. One of our neighbors across our campsite had his bike stolen in the night. So make sure to lock your bikes.

For a mid-week bike ride, Cherry Creek State Park is my go to for getting out of the house and into the wild. I love riding the gravel paths that meander around the park (you also have ample options for road riding) and exploring the different pathways. Im never bored for things to see, as there are always boats and jet skis on the water, model planes in the sky, or an army of Prairie Dogs chirping at you as you roll by.

This would be 5 /5 if the admission price were not so high. I am lucky to live next to this park, so I can walk or ride my bike in without paying a fee. I love this park! Hard to adjust your expectations of parks coming from the Midwest (lots of trees and green) to Colorado. However, Ive grown to love this park for the diverse landscape, the walking, biking, hiking trails, and (of course) the man-made lake. No, it isnt the cleanest, but it sure is fun to bike around, have a picnic by, or paddle-board on!

Colorado is full of beautiful parks so its not shocker that this would match the standard but its still incredible to find a beach, several boat launches, a model airfield and tens of miles of trails in the middle of suburbia. This place is one of my favorites and Ive run it repeatedly during marathon season. I love it for its natural, (mostly) unshaped beauty and the huge space it affords. Youll see coyotes, rabbits, prairie dogs and more in a routine trip through. Highly recommend.

I LOVE this park! My friend had me meet her there the first time I went. I was a little put off by the $10 admission PLUS a $3 fee to use the dog park. But I was hooked after visiting! There are two loops within the off leash dog area. One is about a mile and the other is about 2 miles. It was super nice to be able to walk and not have my dogs leashed. They romped and played, met new dogs and new people, and I could launch a ball as hard as I could without it going over a fence! It was great! I ended up buying a yearly pass which was $108. I take the dogs 3-4 times a week and its been wonderfu . Totally worth the money.

We camped in the group camping area where theres a pavilion with an area to cook and electricity. Its got several picnic tables underneath and the loop where everyones camping and putting their tent trailers are close with a field in the middle. It worked very well for our group in the cooking area there are six outlets as well as a sink with running cold and hot water. You cant ask for much more than that when camping. The only negative is the price of the yearly pass. Were camping and paying site free for 7 days and still have to buy the yearly pass for $83.

What I love about this place, is the scenic view of the Denver metro area with the Rocky Mountains in the background and the sound of the reservoirs lake current happening all at once. The fishing experience does require some patience, but once you start catching a few trouts, catfish, walleyes, carps, wiper and the other species of fish there, the moments become unforgettable! #Peace

We loved visiting! The lake has to be one of the most beautiful spots to see a sunset. There are plenty of spots to get close to the water from the beach area and also where the picnic area is. I was impressed by how clean it was. I didn’t see any trash in the area At all. When we went it was pretty empty (likely because it’s not quite summer yet.) The trees were bare! I’m looking forward to coming back during summer and fall. While I don’t love it as much as Chatfield it’s definitely a lovely place to go for a date, walk with the kids or have a picnic.

The only thing preventing me from getting five stars is the condition of the asphalt roads within the park. They have been left to crack and become very uneven. Aside from this feeling the park is lovely! I bicycled through it and will totally do so again when I have the occasion to be thus far south of my front door in Thornton. The lake is excellent with sandy beaches and in the summer that is a swimming beach, something I didnt know after living in town for 8 years. There are opportunities for seeing wildlife, hiking, biking, picnics, and other outdoor activities.
