It is definitely the best value for the money of any museum Ive ever been to. So many great exhibits to browse through. Fun for all age groups and interests. Multiple floors but easy to maneuver and get around. Nice little gift shop attached to it and very friendly staff throughout making it a wonderful overall experience.

I have lots of memories of coming here as a kid and enjoy bringing my own kids a few times a year. The museum has lots of great exhibits about the history and animals of Maine. The third floor houses exhibits that change regularly. From the museum you can also walk over to the State House which is beautiful inside and has a few more dioramas that feature animals from Maine.

Its very affordable & a good place to take children. The exhibits are interesting, informative & very focused on Maine day to day life of regular ppl which sometimes gets lost when we only talk about leaders & big events. The animal exhibit is a big hit with the children & there are a number of good programs presented to engage young kids. The parking can be good but it depends on the day if the legislature is in session youll want to allow time to find a space.

This place was fascinating and the exhibits were all so realistic and or well done. So many genuine artifacts to study and admire. There is a Huge scale reproduction logging workshop centerpiece which is 3 stories tall. They must have spent a lot of money here because it shows in the details. This is a place you must visit if you want to learn about the majestic state of Maine or its long history. Easy to follow floor plan layout, handicap friendly and clean public restrooms.

My daughter and I had a wonderful time yesterday visiting the Maine State Museum. The exhibits are amazing, and we had it mostly too ourselves for most of the time we were there. I took 148 pictures of the exhibits for her memories. She was very interested in what they have there and I was glad to be able to be there with her. Its a great place for families, school groups, or individuals looking to learn about our Maine history. From lumbering to fishing, to craft trades and agriculture they have it all here. The admission charge was just 5$ for the two of us and well worth it! A stop by the gift shop is recommended as well! Stop by and enjoy the museum as well as the library and archives wings. Right next door to the Capitol Building which you may want to check out as well.

I divvy think Ive ever been to a state dedicated museum that does such a good job of summing up the history of Maine. From 14000 bce to 1940 ce you get a great look at the people, the creatures, and the resources that have made Maine what it is today.Add on they do great outreach to homeschool parents and hold regular events (get on the email list is a must!) Makes it an asset to the community that cannot be overstated. If you really want to have a feel for where Maine has been youve got to go see this museum.

We have three kids ranging in age from 18 months to 8 years old and we all loved the museum. The last time I had been was in middle school and I loved it now as much as I did then. Its a great place to learn about the many different industries that Maine was know for, from coastal fishing, potatoes in the County to logging and textiles. All the kids loved seeing the animal exhibits as well.
