Beautiful, serene and relaxing place. No admission. They do ask for a $5 donation (which I gladly gave). They could use their space better although the openness is beautiful. The property is nice to just walk around too.

The building is lovely...a wedding was held here. But it is my own opinion that art music media or drama that is dark is the opposite of joy. I choose to reject the current exhibit of negative b&w message. I feel it is Degas-bage my own word based on much of degas death art) and life is too beautiful to focus on death or disease.

The smith is a solid university museum, though its total gallery space is smaller than one might expect. Their permanent collection of impressionism is the highlight.

Very disappointed in the museum would be a kind appraisal. Empty rooms, empty spaces, empty halls. We went on a Saturday and initially thought it was closed. So few people. We had lunch at the little sandwich shop and were the only customers.A suggestion: since the weekend is “dead.” Why not invite local artists to display and sell their works in the empty halls. It would bring more people into the museum, increase the income of the gift shop and the sandwich shop, and make use of the empty spaces during the weekend, and give local artists and art students a place to display.

This was a total waste of time and money. There were only three galleries open, and one of them was nothing but plastic bottle caps strung on pieces of wire and tacked onto the wall. The other two were apparently from local artists who were severely unaccomplished. One of the galleries had pieces that the artist had completed at various ages in his life, but there was hardly any change from what he drew in elementary school and the drawings that he produced as an adult. It was interesting to see that one of his pieces referenced Mothra, but the museums description of this famous monster was inaccurate.I almost asked for my $5 donation back on our way out.

They are really hateful to visitors, and have chased most people in Auburn away. It is a public and free place to be but they really act hateful unless you are an event and they wont even let so many of us do an event unless it is like a wedding. Sad.

This museum is a treasure to be found in an otherwise artistically-challenged college town. The JCSM hosts lunch events featuring live music every Thursday and hosts guest speakers in the museum auditorium at least twice a semester. Interesting exhibitions, a nice permanent collection (some of the best of which isnt on display), and free admission. The grounds are beautiful, and locals use the pathways to exercise and search for Pokemon. And if youre really, really lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the pond turtles sunning on the shoulders of the water bunny sculptures.
