The Women’s League of the Atlanta Black Chambers’ hosted our afternoon tea event at the Herndon Home. We could not think of a better venue to discuss black wealth than the home of Alonzo Herndon, Atlanta’s first black millionaire. We were so excited that the Herndon Home opened their doors for us to have a memorable experience. The staff exuded excellence in their working with us in planning and in the execution of the event. Members also got to partake in a tour of the home before the event. The feedback was extremely positive on the wealth of information provided by the docent. We were so appreciative of the support, hospitality, and knowledge of the staff. If you’re hosting an event, you should definitely consider the Herndon Home.

Wish schools did more tours here. Such an inspiration and amazing home! If you even have an interest in Atlanta history or home design, check it out! Can see the Mercedes Benz stadium from the parking in the back of the house.

Wanna see the true face of gentrification? Visit the Herndon Home. With the new Dome in the background and development slowly encroaching on this house it easily displays the displacement that Atlanta’s African American community is dealing with. Once the most affluent areas of Black Wealth in the city since the Sweet Auburn district, today everything around it has begun deteriorating and has been purchased by outside developers and other communities. The home which was designed by Mrs. Herndon displays the power and excellence of our community. The teams protecting it have done quite a good job at it and the history is everywhere.

A brilliant slice of history! The story of Alonzo Herndon is inspirational and this home, forming part of his legacy, is very well preserved. This one’s a hidden gem and there’s much more to see here than the more popular swan house.Although the hours displayed are Tuesday and Thursday, visits can be arranged and other times of the week if you book in advance.

Built in the early 1900s, the Herndon Home Museum is an elegant time capsule of history filled with inspirational messages and artifacts. Mr. Herndon himself, was an extraordinary man with the courage and ambition to prevail over any obstacle within his path to success. May his journey of success live on through the eyes and ears of museum tourist for years to come.
