Well Baby Pugh got further than me at this gallery. I was trying to find an office - turned out it was in the building next door. I went up to the door area of this gallery to look closely at the names on the mail boxes - I had forgotten my glasses and could not see otherwise. A man - the gallery owner came out and demanded to know what I was doing so I told him. He then proceeded to tell me that mail boxes are protected by federal law and accused me of trying to steal mail. I thought his gallery looked fun and nice, so I was intending to visit, but never got that far. He essentially chased me out to the street and continued to accuse me. I tried to assure him that I was not disturbing other peoples mail in any way - but that I was merely reading the names on the boxes to see if I was at the right building. He was so rude and accusing, that it was unnerving to just be there. (He might have offered to help me, since I was new in the area and kind of lost.) This is the one and only time that any business owner was rude to me in Ashland, Oregon - an otherwise very nice town. And yes, this did happen over six months ago when this gallery was open.

Visited this establishment earlier today with a young adult in toe. The young adult had a humanities assignment to visit local art studios. Upon entering the owner stated Oh another one. When we inquired about what he was referring to he proceeded to tell us how annoyed he was that local college students were given this assignment and were visiting his Studio. When asked if we were annoying him he stated yes. We promptly stated very well we will leave. Once outside, I commented that I would be sure to leave a review on social media. Apparently the shop owner has microphones and cameras on the outside of his building because he proceeded to come out of the building and charge at us stating that he had called the police because we had threatened him. As he aggressively approached the young adult, I commanded that he stepped back. The man proceeded to then go on a tirade about calling the college professor, this was his business, blah blah blah blah blah. Ive never encountered such a bully.

Each year I always swing by this gallery. Ive bought a couple pieces over the years, and there is always something interesting or new to see each visit. But the owner is always super fun and personable to talk to (I am sorry, I dont remember your name, sir!), great stories, all sorts of details about the artists and the art with a deep knowledge about the practical/technical details of framing, lighting, canvas, etc. The whimsical and the serious. Terrific and worth your time to take a look.
