The recent addition to this regional museum is impressive, making for a enjoyable few hours. I suspect those who didnt feel the museum had enough well known names are unaware of the national significance of Black Mountain College, that staff and students from the College were widely known. There were also a number of John James Audubon lithographs in what was one of the most interesting and unusual exhibits Ive ever seen at a musuem. I would, however, have to agree with others that $15 seems a bit steep for what is a smaller museum, a ticket price that will limit accessibility. I was more than a bit shocked to see that although Buncombe County has donated generously., the City of Asheviile - which is clearly reaping local taxes from all the new development - has contributed less than $2500??

The museum still smells like fresh paint even months after the renovation. There is a wide variety of art and various collections throughout 4 floors. There is also a cafe on the top floor and you can see a nice view overlooking Asheville from the rooftop cafe. The shop is small but has a nice variety of things from local artists. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I’ll be back!

On the good side - the museums building is very impressive. It is new high-tech sleek construction. Very light and airy. Very clean. The cafe and Panorama roof-top - is a very attractive special feature. As far as the exposition itself - it is very limited by mostly local contemporary pieces of not widely-known artists. Although pretty interesting. Only a handful of more-or less known painters (the american impressionists). Some crafts, and lots of modern stuff.I do not demand world renowned masterpieces from a small NC city, but I dont want to pay $15 for what I saw - it is not worth it.IMHO - the museum is very overpriced for what it displays. I would agree to see it for $5, but not for $15. Because for the family of four (mom, dad and two high school children of 18 and 20) the visit sums up to $60, which is a considerable amount.Just for the sake of comparison: adult ticket to The Legion of Honor museum in San-Francisco costs the same $15, while children up to 17 are admitted for free.Art museums in Greenville, SC and Athens, GA - of the same size, scale and significance, located in the same region (South-East) are FREE.

Not very impressed, rather anti-climactic. It was a disorientation of photography, video and canvas. While there were a handful of pieces I enjoyed the majority were lack luster. The museum itself is clean and inviting. The most exciting piece is the statue outside.

Great art space. Love how theyve curated works that make sense together. Nice variety of work from around the country and local pieces. In early 2020, theres a great exhibit of student artists. The Western North Carolina work is beautiful. I learned a lot about the Black Mountain School and artists who came from that period. The museum is beautiful yet small. Its very doable in a quickish visit. Ill be back.

Had a great time! Being a native I have been visiting the “pack place” since it housed the Health Adventure and I can testify that the renovations really are amazing. They have done an incredible job with the space and it’s just as well designed as any museum I’ve been to in a major city. I took my daughter on a rainy day to the kids zone. They had a family friendly bathroom right there (one big room with a nice changing table which was great because we immediately had a diaper disaster) arts and crafts supplies, blocks, and an all around engaging space. I love that they incorporated art into the activities.

The renovation was overall a very good thing - finally Asheville has a museum worthy itself as the biggest city of WNC.The roof top cafe is very small, but lovely with a nice view towards Mount Pisgah. Not many offerings though for the younger visitors. On that note we were sad to see that the childrens art experience room is much smaller than it previously was, hopefully they will keep it well stocked so kids can continue to create after being inspired by the settings. The art collection is nicely varied with a lot of currently contemporary pieces as well as many from Black Mountain College artists. We dont have a functional history museum in Asheville, but there is a good amount of regional history that can be experienced here through art.

I have been to this place since my college years, having participated in events including the Asheville Film Festival, Music Video Asheville, Creative Sector Summit and Connect Beyond Festival. With the year-long renovations already completed, and more space open to more public exhibitions, I cant wait to see what will be shown next. Bonus: for those who wish to visit it frequently following the first visit, they will upgrade your general admission ticket to a annual membership upon request!

I was very excited to visit the renovated art museum. I remember before the renovation took place they used to do a free kid afternoon. I found that to be a great activity to do with my kids. Wish they would bring that back, at least once a month. It at least would bring more locals in as well. That said, while I was walking around the museum, holding my child’s hand telling him to “look with his eyes,” I couldn’t help but feel we were being watched very closely. Not being paranoid, I get it, no one wants kids to touch the artwork, I don’t either, and I clearly had my child under control. We were definitely being singled out in a roomful of people. Tad unwelcoming, especially when I am trying to expose my child to the arts.

A really great collection and lots of room to enjoy all the pieces. We took our time viewing all the works and it took about 2 hours to make our way through. If youre visiting the Asheville area and you really enjoy fine art, the Asheville Art Museum is a great place to visit. You should also consider spending some time in the river arts district, its fantastic.

We were in Asheville for the weekend and wanted to fit a museum visit during our time there- we picked Asheville Art Museum and loved it. Because we have a 5 month old we decided to go later in the day and play the visit by ear depending on his needs as this was his first museum visit. We had a lot of fun and our 5 month old really enjoyed looking at several pieces and installations. We definitely couldve spent more time there but we got to all the floors!

The newly renovated art museum is beautiful! The building is well-layed out and provides plenty of space for art displays. That said, the art selection leaves something to be desired. With essentially two floors dedicated to art, the spread is on the small side. Additionally, much of the art is highly subjective. I expect there will be future additions of art and exhibits in the future. For the price (even using Zoom passes), I would say our group felt like it was not worth the price of admission at this point. One thing worth mentioning is the kid play area on the second floor. It stretched the time we were in the museum, otherwise we would have been in and out in less than an hour. I hope to improve my score in the future.

I live in Asheville, and Im embarrassed that this is our official art museum. It was a waste of $16. There are very few pieces, and it took less than an hour to see everything. Each area was very bare and boring. There wasnt any cohension between the exhibits. It wasnt very reflective of the city or region. The kid area was sparse. Save your money and instead just explore the many free galleries with interesting, local art.

Well for as long as it was renovated I expected more. I have been to many galleries (Houston, NYC, Tulsa, Baltimore, etc) so maybe I am biased BUT I promise you it is overpriced for what it is. We were in and out in 30 min for $60 bucks. It’s four floors but one of those floors is extremely small and one is the cafe. The art is spread pretty far out too. I feel like having glassworks is odd, given you can see that for free all over Asheville. A lot of the work is interpretational. I enjoy walking freely through River Arts and feel like I see much better art for free. Pretty bummed.

Dont do it!!! For a town famous for its artists, this museum was a tremendous disappointment. Ho-hum describes its best moments well. I think they need to rethink their curation to reflect the local artist community making it more relevant to the area, and therefore unique, instead of offering one more stuffy gallery of art that you can see in anytown USA.

Honestly I recommend to save your 8 dollars and go walk around downtown. The shops and boutiques have more art then this place. Really disappointed that my hometown, thats known to be artistic. Has such a weak museum where the only exhibit worth looking at is the high school, elementary school section. You spend more time wandering around trying to find an actual exhibit. Then you do looking at the 5 or 8 pieces of art.VHD

We booked the loft space for a business meeting during the week. The space itself is lovely. The room is industrial style with large windows overlooking downtown, and an abundance of natural light. The space was also well equipped with tables and chairs and a TV to connect to for presentations. Unfortunately due to the style of the room, there was quite a bit of noise from construction on the floor below throughout our meeting. However, shortly after we left from the meeting, the center called and offered to refund the rental fee for the day due to the unexpected noise and inconvenience. Because of their exceptional customer service, I would not hesitate to book another meeting...I just might check to be sure no construction would take place the same day.

Where to begin? The Asheville Art Museum is very...mediocre. While visiting today, the free first floor is nothing but construction and a few very meh pieces. I understand they are in the process of hanging an installation but my goodness, at least have more to look at on the first floor! When asking about the Earth and Science museum, we were given rude responses from the art museum receptionist. We gave up on the art museum and headed down to the Earth and Science section. At least those gals were friendly! There wasnt too much to look at down there, sadly. Most of their displays were out of date and not very interactive. I also understand that one of their exhibits was broken into and stolen but still, aside from the stolen display, it was a very lackluster experience. I did however purchase a nifty ring.Overall, I would rate the art museum a 1/5 and the Earth and Science a 3/5. For such high and mighty folks, youd think the art gallery would like more professional. Ive seen college galleries ran by college student look more professional. Step it up, guys!

There is nothing here. There were only 4 or five seperate rooms, each with less than 10 displays. It is $8 a person to look at 30 paintings, and a number of them were elementary self portraits done on wood. It was exactly what you would imagine looking at all the works an elementary school art teacher has left over at the end of the year. Also, the employees were terrible. They just sat in chairs and stared at people going by when they werent texting. I walked around with my mom and it took us maybe 10-15 minutes to see everything and another 10 or so to back track to try and find a room we missed. I have friends with more extensive galleries than this one. It was literally less decorated than an average house lol
