Gorgeous urban decay landmark scantily evidencing the architectural significance of Asbury Park’s past. One can imagine a previous era of the beach in Asbury when folks donned regal hats and covered themselves head to toe in heavy cotton swimwear. Contemporary murals (I believe all painted by local artists) wrap the interior walls and other artist installations pass through on an occasional basis.

Lovely architecture. The metal works including gorgon heads an exquisite green patina due to exposure. Inside where the carousel once delighted tourists the art work of Pork Chop stands in various stages of completion. I highly suggest you stop by and visit. I love Pork Chops work.

Historic building located on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. Some of the artwork inside the pass-through is covered up due to renovations, but it is worth seeing--a trip back in time to the early 1900s. The famous 1920s mermaid can be viewed through peepholes along the length of the structure.

The Casino is an open building bar the southern most end of the boardwalk before you enter into Ocean Grove. I don’t know what this building was used for back in the day. As of September 2019 the building is just a shell that you walk through. It’s a memory from a long time ago. I don’t know what the ultimate plan is for the stricture. But seeing what was done to the Boardwalk Hall at the north end of the boardwalk does give one hope.

The Asbury Park casino, brings very fond memories for me, this building housed the merry go round, with an organ in the canter of it. You could ride a horse or other animals as it went up and down while spinning, a long with stationary rides, the horses were decorated and looking like they were in full gallop. The building itself was beautiful. I think it was either brass or copper plated because of the way it oxidized to a lovely green. Its nice to see it still standing.

Review №50

Today in Asbury Park was bittersweet.... I remember riding the merry-go-round as a child, and bringing my daughter to the same merry-go-round when she was a child. The carousel is long gone now, as is everything else that was the Casino of Asbury Park. All thats left is the shell, and peoples artwork adorning the bricks of this ghostly apparition. To make it all the more eerie....there was a fire just across the bridge from it in Ocean Grove yesterday. It was still smoldering today. For those not familiar with the area, Ocean Grove is the next town south of Asbury. Sitting less than a football field away from the Casino, today, you could barely see it because of the smoke.
