This hotel has a lot of potential if the management and some of the staff acted just a little bit interested in their jobs. FYI - parking fees are NOT clearly noted upon booking, if you park in the hotel’s lot it is $45/night for cars and $65/night for SUVs. This does NOT include moving your car, if needed, to drive somewhere. Astronomical...I’d suggest parking in the street spaces across from the hotel, ~$15/day through the AP parking app. You can come/go as you please as the payment is tied to your license plate, not a spot number. The hotel itself could have been cleaner, given the obvious AND the factthat it wasn’t booked to capacity. We were assured that the room would be cleaned to the strictest requirements, yet when we got to it, there were dead flies on the windowsill, each surface had cup marks/other substances on it and the AC barely worked. We had to ask multiple times to have our room cleaned. The building itself is great; lots of character and nice outdoor seating. For the “resort fee”, the cabanas could have been sanitized better. All in all, if you are looking for a few quick nights at the Jersey shore, it’s not awful — but it’s definitely not worth $300/night. We stayed during the week @ ~$150/night.

This is a beautiful hotel. Once you check in do not expect any house cleaning clean towels extra shampoo etc. Refrigerator is extra per day. Bring your pet charge extra per day. Parking is also extra. Expect to pay $200.00 per day extra when all is said and done. Of you eat or drink here the service people are trained to say they added an extra... To get a big tip. The Asiananager at the front desk just yeses you to death and will call the cops on you once you get loud or ask for his manager. During COVID 19 we are asking for basic things. We ate paying for a give star hotel and getting one star service at best.. I have to say that some one star hotel s may offer you better service. This staff should learn health safety and social skills. I strongly do not re o..end this place.

The hotel was nice. I wish I could experience it before covid hit. You can tell the building was old pre 1940ish HOWEVER they have done a great job with interior decorating. The rooms were nicely sized only issue is if you’re a person with a high tech gadgets, bring an extra extension cord. Plugs are very scarce. The WiFi also constantly boots you off. Pool was nice, lunch at the pool was good. Guys at the front door are very hospitable!

When my fiancé asked simple question there answers rudely. Then suite room experience begins, we found blood in bathroom on radiator, blow dryer broken, windows where so dirty couldnt enjoy ocean view,TV was so small and far my fiance has a permit squint...No room service no microwave nothing. I understand the covid19 situation but you can have exception to rules i spent over 375.00 a night for basically a box room...

Was disappointed this year... I understand times are tough but this was quite a different experience than we’re used to. I take my mother here every year for a little vacation and it’s always great. This year was different... Once you book the room make sure you have a fridge otherwise they will bill you $25 on top of the $25 resort fee (resort fee?)... We asked for one and they were just like yes it will be right up without mentioning a charge. Also, due to Covid, there’s no breakfast included (understandable)... I guess my only issue is why are we paying a $25 resort fee and $25 for a little fridge in the room? Roof is closed, mezzanine is closed, breakfast is closed, parking is always another expense, pool is laughable, etc...? Not to mention we stayed 2 nights and didn’t use our initial wristbands the first night for the pool so tossed them... Then decided to spend $350 for another night and were questioned as to why we needed 2 more (who do you know here, why do you need more bands, are you giving them out?)... No, we just booked another night and were told they were only good for that day. I’m here with my mom lol... Give. Me. A. Break... Also, I know summer is almost over but make sure you figure out beach passes otherwise you might be upset upon arrival. Passes sell out quick and if you spend that amount of money on a room and show up to find out you can’t go on the beach, you might lose it.

There are a few issues that I have with this hotel starting with the price. Although it is a great location very close to the beach, I feel that the service and cleanliness of this hotel should be much better given the price. Our room was not ready when we arrived. There are 3 elevators, not one works properly. The room smelled or urine and mildew and stayed very warm even though the AC was on the lowest setting. There was a small blood stain on the comforter. There was a regular thunderstorm and the cable and WiFi were out. The staff is mostly rude, except for the door men. Overall I expected I much more comfortable stay given the price of this hotel. I know the location is great, but the hotel was very mediocre. Don’t stay here unless you have a pet. Apparently there are a bunch of pet friendly rooms.

The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel is not on the Oceanfront. Its across the street from the ocean behind a building. The front of the hotel doesnt even face the ocean. The room was clean, but only one of the way windows had curtains so the room was always bright. Especially at 5AM and on. The hotel its had cobwebs and light damages in the hallways and in the back entrance from the parking lot. They also charge to $45-$65 a day to park at their parking lot during your stay depending on the size of your car.Once their I realized there were better look hotels in the area that actually faced the ocean.

Attended in the off season during COVID, mid-week, hoping to have a few peaceful nights away from home. The hotel itself is shabby and dirty. The rooms are large, but dont seem to have been updated since the 70s. The hallway carpet was soaking wet from a leak somewhere. Our room had not been cleaned thoroughly, there was a half used shampoo bottle on the floor next to yhe tub. The biggest problem, though, was that none of the staff were wearing the state mandated masks. When confronted, they were surly. We ended up checking out early and moving to the Asbury, which was fantastic.

Stay away!!! Check-in people could not be less friendly and getting info from them about parking is like pulling teeth. Checked in and then checked out within 30 minutes. Room was hot and musty (over 80 degrees), carpet and bathroom floor were filthy, crumbs and stains on the floor by the foot of the bed, and thermostat didnt work. I felt uncomfortable taking my shoes off or unpacking my luggage. Called down to the front desk and was told an engineer would be right up. 25 minutes later he still hadnt shown up. So, we decided to leave. At the front desk we asked for the manager to request a refund. He was at the front desk on the phone. Despite being first in line, he intentionally called on the next people in line and made us wait. Spoke to him politely and explained that we were not going to stay and requested a refund. He happily said that our reservation was non-refundable. And nothing else. No apology. No solution, nothing. After speaking with him further, he said he could put us in another room. No thanks. We left and are now disputing the 2 nights of room charges through our credit card company. And, to add insult to injury, they tacked additional charges onto my credit card a few days later, despite not having even stayed at the hotel.By the way, their parking rates are exorbitant considering you are parking in what looks like a construction zone surrounded by a chain link fence. And for $65, you get to park your car yourself bc there is no valet. Not sure why there is a $20 upcharge for an SUV considering it is not a covered parking garage.

AC slammed inside of its housing cabinet everything it switched off, which was frequently because it was running in short bursts. It was very loud and made it difficult to sleep. The walls and doors do not block out any sound, people in the next room and hall sounded like they were in our room. Ocean front room view has an old boardwalk building outside of the window, the building is covered in plywood and looks like it needs to be torn down. The pool needed to be cleaned and they ran out of pool towels. They charged me for 3 days of parking even though I didnt use their overpriced parking and never asked for a parking pass, when I asked to have it refunded I was told they had to get the managers approval, who was not there and they would email me.. overall disappointing for the price.

Four stars only because whomever did the renovation obviously was doing either a rush job or didnt have much experience (power outlets cut larger than the cover plates, pencil markings left on the misaligned tiles, sticker residue left on the bathroom mirror, all the telltale signs of poor craftsmanship, and the unmistakable smell of mold). For the poor quality of work, and the fact that our room had mysterous wet spots on the carpet, I took away one star (generous rating). The four remaining stars are because this is a great historic hotel in an amazing location. It needs to be preserved and have a better quality of care put into it because its beautiful and, come on, it was Jonny Cashs favorite Hotel. Im happy to have had the chance to stay there and learn of the history, and I would recommend staying a night to have the same experience, but sadly, we probably wont return.

Shocking terrible service from their unprofessional staff. Tried to downgrade us multiple times and had us visit 3 different rooms; not sure if they realize such cheap gimmicks not only cause inconvenience to customers, but also lead to spread of covid--please stay away from this hotel for your safety!I was visiting along with my brothers family. We both reserved and paid for the deluxe room, but the manager sent our families to the smaller/standard room. When I came back and complained, he reassigned us another room. When i specifically asked if its the deluxe room, he rudely replied I am giving you what you booked. Well that turned out to be a LIE, since it was the small/standard room again. I came back, showed him my reservation for the deluxe room, and asked why he was harassing our families. At that point, he turned from being rude to being really angry. Somehow he finally conceded and gave us the larger/deluxe room that we booked, but the check-in was such an ordeal and took 1.5 hours to just get to our room.

The worst stay ever, very rude customer service, with the exception of one front desk employee named Lisa, she was the only good thing in the hotel, the rooms were really bad, basics were not available in the room: no tea or coffee, no microwave, no mini fridge, no ice in the pantry, air vent wasn’t working, bug on the bed, booked a partial ocean view, found the room in the back with no view at all, a friend got an ocean view room, they gave her one in the first floor and the view blocked by a building, she asked where is the ocean, they told her behind the building, lol, funny and crazy to believe they were serious. Tea and coffee were served in the lobby from 7-10am, went there 9:40 to find empty pots, asked for coffee, a front desk employee told us we have to wait for few minutes, a guy came to take an empty pot and left, and after waiting for more than 20 minutes, he came back saying “I don’t have coffee, and it is now after time”, thankfully the front desk lady “Lisa” was there and she told the rude guy to bring us a pot right away because we asked for the coffee long before the time. In addition, parking is $65 a night even though parking was available right in front of the hotel for less than quarter the price. In short, don’t stay there, pricey and no value in return, will never be back again.

Actually, I would give this a negative five stars if I could. Check in person was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The key would not activate the elevator so I had to wait for the check in guy to do it and he said the sensors aren’t working well, so it is tricky. The key did not work for my room which was across the hall from a barking dog. I asked for a room change. The hallway smelled of cigarette smoke and the room was musty. The ice machine did not work on my floor and I couldn’t reach anyone on the room phone because none of the buttons worked. I used my cell phone to call the front desk and was told to go to another floor for ice. I asked to have it sent to my room as it was late and I was in my pajamas already. It never arrived. All this, I would expect at a $50 per night roadside motel but at $300 it’s unacceptable. I will NEVER stay here again.

Great hotel! Our room was spacious, clean, and well designed. We were attending an event at the convention center so this was the perfect place to stay being right across the street. The staff were very friendly! The only two things we did not like were 1. They charged a $22 resort fee we were not expecting-it is January-the pool is closed-what resort amenities would we be using? 2. Parking was $45 and not even valet. Had to drive the car around to the back of the building and walk bags out. It seemed pretty steep for not being in a city-so between that and the resort fee it was an additional $67 on top of the $200 we spent on the room for the night. We also later found out from friends there was a free lot on Grand Street around the corner and another friend parked on the street until 3am for like $6. So just keep in mind the almost $70 extra dollars you will end up spending on top of your stay.

This was one of the worst stays I’ve had anywhere. Starting with the positives-hotel was clean and had easy access to the beach. The list of MAJOR issues:1)the first night of our stay, the hotel booked someone else into our room after we had checked in and gave them keys to our room. We arrived back from the pool to find other people in our room with with all of our personal belongings already in the room.2)before arriving I confirmed multiple times that the pool was opened all day each day during my stay and that there were no limitations due to covid or anything else as this was an important part of our stay. Upon arrival we were told the pool was closed at 3pm the day we were there for a private party. So our main day of the trip we were unable to use the pool when we wanted to.3)We booked 2 rooms specifically for the fact that they had pull out couches. Upon arrival, one of the rooms did not have a pull out couch. The only way to rectify the situation was to separate our 2 rooms to different floors, which was not an option. The manager was rude and barely faked an apology at each occurrence. I had to insist on any compensation for these issues. The more issues presented, the less friendly the staff became. I will never return to this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone.

In the future I will listen to reviewers who say beware! This was a horrible place to stay. We booked our hotel room in advance and it was supposed to be 2 queen beds. We called in advance to let them know we were coming and they said no problem we dont give away rooms. When we arrived they said that the queen room was not available because of a leak which they did not inform us of when we called. They could only give us a king bed and sofa bed. Sofa bed was horrible. It was very thin and only a full size. The room they gave us had a heavy duty air blower on the carpet because it was wet. They moved us to another room that had mold in the bathroom ceiling. The sofa couch had spots on it and was dirty. Which looked like it was never cleaned. I literally could go on and on. I was very disappointed by the fact that they did not inform us ahead of time and we had to walk into this situation. The only plus I can give them is the fact that they moved us 2 times. But check in took forever because of all these issues.

This hotel was a dump when we stayed there circa 2007-2008-ish, right after it had been reopened by new owners, and redecorated with that tired generic Target-esque decor. The photos of the rooms are *that* old. There was no hot water, no water pressure, no air conditioning and the staff was very rude - a complaint that still seems to be the norm. Reviewing the recent complaints, it would seem that in 13 years, the management has still not gotten their act together. After the one time we stayed there under the new ownership, there isnt a snowballs chance in hell that I would ever stay there again. I stayed there once in the late 90s when it was run by the previous owners, and it was a beautiful, clean place. The two experiences were like night and day. Dont waste your money here.

I was disgusted with the stay here. almost $ 200. per night and no microwave or fridge. There was a drip in the room due to a storm.and they have no smoking rooms.i am now disputing a 200+ fee for smoking after i called and asked about the smoking policy.they said they found smoking evidence. my husband did not smoke.the supervisor that checked me in was not friendly at all and non informative.

This was the worst hotel experience of my entire life. The location and view doesnt make up for the overpriced, outdated rooms. We checked in at 4:30 and got to our deluxe king ocean view room and it was filthy. Food wrappers and food crumbs crushed into the carpet, plaster all over the window sills and all over the floor, no towels or robes. We went down to inform the front desk and the woman changed her initial attitude she had upon checkin to apologetic and switched our room. The new room was clean and much smaller. A $90 difference from our original room that they didnt offer to refund to my boyfriend and I. We were also charged 69.31 for parking, when the agreed upon amount was $65 which is still outrageous and wasnt mentioned anywhere prior to our arrival. The beach passes werent provided to us and the new process was not properly explained which resulted in the beach passes being sold out for the day in asbury park so we couldnt even go to the beach. The new procedures that are listed on their website for covid-19 are NOT in place at all. BEWARE if youre concerned about your health. There were multiple guests not wearing masks and staff didnt say anything to them. There was no one checking temperatures anywhere and there was no one operating the elevator for guests or regularly sanitizing anything. There was no breakfast offered and we luckily found a coffee stand selling coffee in the morning near the lobby. At 4am the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate and wait outside until the building was cleared to enter. It was a terrifying experience as there is no signage anywhere. Guests were clambering around the hallways at 4am opening random doors to locate an unmarked stairwell to escape the building safely. The fire chief said someone had been smoking in the room. Once we were finally allowed to reenter the building we finally saw a staff member that told us to take 8 flights of stairs back up to our room , but guests from level 5 must stay in the lobby like children until they found the culprit of the fire alarm. Luckily that didnt include us because we needed to try to get some amount of rest for the $500+ we had spent for the mediocre room. In the morning we checked out early, eager to put this place behind us and never look back. Staff couldnt have cared less about us, a weekend getaway turned into a nightmare. 10 out of 10 would NEVER recommend to even my worst enemy.

We went to wedding at the Jersey shore. It was beautiful. We stayed here where the reception was being held. The staff was excellent and so was the food. This is the view from our room.

Great location to the boardwalk and shops. Hotel parking is $45 during the summer season, but off street parking is available for much less. The hotel staff were very friendly and went out of there way to assist us getting settled in. The hotel is a little older, but I found the rooms very spacious with great views of the ocean and boardwalk.

Total rip off. Charged us out of season for a Resort fee in January when none of the resort amenities were open. Also tacked on a parking fee when we paid to park on the street. I really hope the extra $50 in resort fees makes up for the fact that a regular visitor to the hotel will NEVER be back

Not what I was expecting for the price. Parking was difficult and expensive. No free WiFi, no place in the hotel to grab a coffee or snack, door key didn’t work on numerous occasions, strange room setup (the faucet barely worked because it was shoved into place against a mirror), “oceanview” was blocked by a terribly ugly building, door to room was difficult to open, ice makers didn’t work well BUT the formal event we attended was very well run and the facility was clean. Fitness center was quite pathetic - be careful with those sandbag weights. Pretty sure I wore more sand than I lifted. The saving grace of this hotel was the very friendly staff and good location, but overall I am not impressed.

Nice room but very noisy the next morning while trying to get so much needed sleep. Can hear doors slamming outside our room which I believe was housekeeping, starting early. No coffee makers or refrigerator in our room. Very pricey

I stayed there last night. The phone in my room didn’t work, one of the lamps didn’t work, there were barely any outlets and the television remote looked like something from the 1980’s. The room was just very dark and certainly not worth the $300 I paid.

Traveling June 2019POSITIVES: The room was extremely clean and the building was very nice, which you would not expect if you were standing outside of it since it looks like college dorm building. The hotel is directly across the street from the beach and is only about a 10 minute walk to The Stone Pony Stage, which was the focus of our trip. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the pool attendants. The A/C worked very well, which was a huge plus since it was in the mid-90s every day. Additionally, if you want to take in the ocean breeze, the windows in the rooms do open, which is convenient for turning your non-smoking room into a smoking room. They allow pets, which is a huge plus except pets are not allowed on the beach from May 1st to October 1st. The shampoo smelt nice, I recommend snagging some from the maids cart before you leave.NEGATIVES: Everything is extra or has a fee. The amenities that most hotels include (HD TV, clock, Hair Dryer, Wi-Fi, Bedding

The Berkeley is literally steps from the beach and boardwalk. Its a nice hotel with very spacious rooms. There are tons of activities to do in the surrounding areas for adults and children of all ages.A few problems we had is that there is no hotel parking. You are going to pay for parking either with valet or street parking which is an hourly charge. So keep that in mind when budgeting.Rooms are also a little dated.Rooms do not come standard with refrigerators even though the rooms are so pricey. The only reason why i gave this hotel 5star is because of the staff. They are extremely curtious and always smiling and willing to help. Without that this would have scored a 3star with me

Best wedding experience of my life — of my very best friend of 25 years! This place is absolutely gorgeous! There was another wedding going on simultaneously— and you could not tell AT ALL!! Empty beautiful huge halls to play in - extremely nice and helpful staff when I was locked out of bridesmaids suite they were happy to give me a keycard - awesome valet that suggested I take pic of ticket which came in handy haha - reception area knocked anywhere else I’ve seen (& heard acoustics were amazing) out of the park!!! View! Oh and I visited my friend’s 7th floor room — it was BREATHTAKING! Congrats MORANS! ️️

It’s a pleasant place, if dated. To truly dine you must go elsewhere. (Try The Tides, tucked half a mile away on a residential street.) And be prepared for bill shock: The dismissive desk manager looked me in the face and said, “The tax is 14%.” I am a Marriott Lifetime Titanium/Ambassador, so I know from hotel taxes, and 14% of $189 is not another $100. It’s the $ add-ons, including Big City parking, plus the taxes on them, that run up the bill.

Booked this hotel since it was the last available option for a girls getaway weekend. Was a little wary of booking after reading some negative reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised! Most of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Check in was a breeze and our room was clean and much larger than expected. Free coffee and fruit infused water in the lobby. The hotel is in a prime location and pet friendly! No problems with checking in early and they also stored our bags for a few hours after we checked out. Some of the cons we noticed were that there is no fridge in the room and the parking is not great. We didn’t want to pay $45 for valet but we dropped off our bags and were able to find free parking in the residential area a few blocks away. We also were confused by the hotel wristbands. It would be helpful to know that you still have to pay to get on the beach but they will reimburse you, you can’t just walk on with the hotel wristbands which wasn’t explained to us.Overall a good experience and we would stay here again.

Dog friendly and on the ocean. Bed was comfortable. The common areas were not kept up, empty bottles on the deck weren’t moved for two days, a half full glass of liquor was outside the entrance on the ground for three. A broken piece of cement was used as a doorstop on the observation deck. Lobby and elevators had a sewer odor. When I checked in the receptionist literally said, “payment and ID.” Not even a hello. The valet attendants should hold open the front door for guests if they are standing there, and not be in the public view texting every day.$600 in taxes and fees for a four night stay excessive. It is as if they know they have the location to be booked full most summer nights and don’t even try to lure guests back.
