I had been warned that you should take a 4x4 to get here and that was good advice. There are over a dozen river crossings (some where you literally drive up the river for 100+ feet) so a vehicle with high clearance and 4wd is highly recommended. We did it in a Nissan Armada with no problem. The trail is cool and there are places to swim and go down natural water slides and see salamanders and tadpoles and frogs.
Big Falls in Santa Lucia. It is about 50 minutes away from Avila beach. On the way driving into the park, I was able to see Lopez lake. ( very pretty).Mountain, mountains so manny of them makes me remember KCNT.Sharing road but not many car so no need to worried about it. ( enjoying epic panoramic view of the mountains).Need 4 WD to just get to the trailhead. ( 12 rivers to driving cross).Very adventure, fun, loved, and scared. ( I won’t do it again).Easy hike. ( Back and forth many times to the creek was fun).Seeing few waterfalls, short, medium, and tall, a lot of water flowing on the falls. ( they made my ears, eyes, and my heart, didn’t want to go home).Mountains, rocks, redwood trees, swimming holes, jumping cliff, bugs, poison oak/ ivy, snake, salamanders. ( you name it, this park has them all waiting for you).Loved this hike a lot. ( so soooo peaceful and adventure).Enjoy your hike, but I won’t come back.
Nice test for a truck offroad performance and an even better hike.
Nice place
The soothing sound of the creek and the wild life is good for your mind and body.
Great hike, but a vehicle with clearance through several water hazards is required. Nice hike mostly under a tree canopies.
I came in from Rinconada in january after 3 days of rain. It was a long hike with a lot of elevation gain / loss, but if youre reasonably fit it is not hard. The falls were pumping, very beautiful and worthwhile. Watch for poison oak, wipe off with rubbing alcohol right after and treat with benadryl cream.
We couldnt get to the trailhead bc of the uneven rd and creek crossings and the only places to park said private property vehicles would be towed.....we looked everything up prior to coming and had no idea we needed a 4x4 or big vehicle just to get to the trail head
Beyond beautiful scenery! I definitely would not rate this as an easy hike, but only two difficult spot! Well worth it.Lots of poison oak!
I didnt go hiking but it was a nice drive. I did not use my 4x4, but a vehicle with plenty of ground clearance and an expereinced driver is nessessary for the 15-20 creek crossings.
Very pretty, well worth it.
Lifted truck required not recomended for most people but great hike
A good hike and navigating the rocks a good starter trail
Awsome place, but got bit by a spider as you can see in my pictures.
Fun trail! Awesome if you have 4x4!!
Definitely watch out for poison oak. Bring tecnu
Very relaxing place to go hike
