Lovely little park with dirt trails down to the Potomac.
One of the best little hidden gems for a hike in the Arlington area. The trail entrance is at the end of a cul de sac so most days there’s plenty of parking. The trail is really nicely developed for being so close to DC. There’s a stream that runs through the wooded area with footbridges and railings for more difficult spots. The trail takes you under the George Washington Parkway and then to a beautiful ~35 ft. Waterfall that leads down to the banks of the Potomac. At the bottom you can split off in either direction to walk along the river. To the right you’ll have great views of Georgetown and the Key Bridge.Awesome place for a quick afternoon hike without having to go to Great Falls or Shenandoah.
Great place for a run some hilly parts oh, lots of trees and a small stream. But it gets really dark at night.
Absolutely gorgeous hike! Thoroughly enjoyed it! It is definitely a HIKE though! Quite steep, and you have to search for the trail, but the scenery is well worth it!
Have the waking trails area and safe for family with small children.
Lovely walks with stunning views of the Potomac, which are well worth the effort
A little too rough for a person in a cast! Trail weaves back and forth across the creek. Ends with the most amazing cliff and little waterfall at the Patomac. We saw crew boats up close. Never realized how fast they move!
There is a lovely photogenic waterfall on Windy Run where the creek enters the river. The waterfall is especially beautiful in the spring after a big rain fall. About .8 of a mile upriver from the Windy Run waterfall are two 19th century steam engines and other equipment from the old quarries along the river.
Great place for a 30 min hike down to the Potomac river
Nice walk through beautiful nature.
A great trail to walk along the Potomac with views of a waterfall. Be aware that its not a simple walking trail, but has crossings via rocks in the creek, no railings in places, and stepping bewteen or on large rocks, etc.
ALERT STEEP ROCK CLIMB DOWN TO POTOMAC RIVER - FUN!! UNTIL
I took my dog here hoping for a peaceful walk and the trail led me to a highway overpass. My very skittish dog pulled me back to the trail head at a breakneck pace. I would not recommend this hike to people with fearful dogs.
Do not attempt if youre scared of heights. Cool waterfall.
Lots of places where the trail crosses the creek and you have to hop across partially submerged rocks. Wear shoes with good grip. Beautiful scenery and cliffs once you get down to the Potomac.
The residents here suck they just want to keep the park for themselves. You should that you’ll get traffic when you bought a house there.
This is a very natural park. So if you have any concerns about tripping over tree roots, stones or uneven stairs, then this park might not be for you. The babbling brook and trees make you feel like your not in the city, but theyre not loud enough to drown out all the city noise.
The park is nice, although is in itself not overly impressive. However, it is a nice break from the urban environment, and once you reach windy run waterfall on the bank of the Potomac, its well worth the visit! Do continue along the Potomac heritage trail running alongside the river. It is a very nice walk (or run), and will take you to additional smaller water falls (in the western direction). Paw paw fruit, in season in early August, grow wild on this trail.
New layout not impressed. They cut off the water accsess so now its just a quick out and back. Less liability I guess.
Beautiful trail through woods with 4 stream crossings.
A short, but very pleasant & easy trail hidden away among the DC city area. The trail weaves in and out of a small river for about a mile until you get to the Potomac River. My dog loves exploring this area as well and I havent passed anyone along the trail who had an issue with dogs yet.
An extremely beautiful trail hidden behind the YMCA Woodmont Center that takes you straight to the Potomac.Arlington has the highest density of bees in the county and they make primarily tulip poplar honey. Through the woods you can see a lot of these trees as it takes you straight to the Potomac River!
Reminds me of my days in Chattanooga going to the pool at the bottom of a fall on Signal Mountain.
Walk to the river’s edge, along a stream and waterfall. Great view of Key Bridge.
Great place!
Trail is closed for renovations and stream restoration. The sign says work was started 9/17, estimated completion date 3/18. Try Potomac Overlook or Chain Bridge until then. We went to Gulf Branch, which is beautiful and convenient, but the descent to the Potomac is practically vertical.
Arlington County recently rechanneled the stream in a major project. It looks great, and its a nice easy hike for kids. Please bring a bag and remove your trash!
Its my job and I love it
Otherworldy
Its a nice park with access to the Potomac Heritage Trail, but the entrances are currently closed.
Great hike to go on with the dog. A few easy stream crossings. Stairs down to the Potomac at the end are out of order but passable with caution.
A short hike to the potomac. Steep at the end.
Amazing time and great hike. More than just a trail.
Great if youre looking for a peaceful outdoor activity. Not difficult but the waterfall stairs are a bit steep
Beautiful spot, little hidden gem
Hike a rocky park with water falls, trails, and Potomac.
