Great climbs, super good variety compared to other individual ET gyms. Only reason it was meh was due to a specific staff member being a bit pushy to us (Since we dont normally climb here). From every other ET gym they usually leave you to your climbing, especially if you have a lead cert and have been climbing for a while like us. I was fairly annoyed about being told to do certain things like a child, and wish we could have been left to climb like we normally do.Still love the other ET gyms though. Ill probably just stick to them instead of visiting this one.

This is a great indoor rock climbing space AND fitness gym. This location also sells rock climbing gear, such as the shoes, harnesses, and even healthy food snacks. Not only that, this facility is also worth noting as being kid-friendly.We visited to celebrate a friends 9yr-old birthday party and all of the kids had a blast scaling the walls made with the right difficulty for their age and size. Moreover, the staff were very down to earth, patient, and attentive to all of the kids and bigger kids in our group. We look forward to to coming back and bringing the kids so they can relive this amazing experience. So, if youre looking for a new activity to do as a single, with a group and or with the kids this is the place to come to. Lastly, Id be remiss if I didnt mention that theres an underground parking garage connected to the building to make this an accessible place as well.

The best climbing gym in the DMV area! The members and staff are super friendly and helpful. Their locker rooms, gym area and climbing walls are state of the art, you dont need even to bring those old metal locks for climbing, you can just set up a PIN on the locker door. They also have regular social events that are always a success. The location is also great, but sometimes parking can be limited, so I recommend taking the Metro whenever possible.

Great Cancellation Policy! After moving to a location that made it difficult for me get to the gym regularly, I had cancel, which is a total bummer considering the facility is world class. As I approached the counter to cancel on the last day of the month, I expected the runaround and fees that are typical of membership clubs. Instead, the staff member let me know that my membership would end tomorrow - no strings attached. Amazing staff, world class facility, and they continually reinvest into the community and gym. Get a membership and climb frequently, you wont regret it!

I love this place. The facility is clean and well taken care of, there are a ton of routes (bouldering, too rope, and lead), they have a nice selection of snacks and drinks, as well as climbing equipment and apparel, but NONE OF IT compares to how incredibly, ridiculously, unrealistically nice and helpful the employees are. Its like they train them in a top secret research facility dedicated to customer service and pleasantness. I honestly dont know how its possible that Ive interacted with at least 10 separate employees and have had memorably positive experiences with every single one. If youre a beginner, this is a great place for you. If youre not a beginner, this is also the place for you. Seriously, you owe it to yourself to check this place out.

Large, clean, and modern climbing gym with a bit of a yuppie vibe. Walltopia designed walls with pretty interesting routes, although the geometry of the walls in the roped area is slightly less exciting than other gyms in the area. More slabby walls than Sportrock and more total routes. The wall height is only 35-40, quite a bit shorter than the 60-70 at Sportrocks larger bay.Bouldering section is super modern, absolutely massive, and fits right in with how most new gyms are designing their boulder areas. Lots of hard problems in this section.Their fitness area, IMO, is a big selling point. They have all of the traditional machines youd want in a weight lifting gym (squat rack, deadlift platform, cable machines, olympic style bars/weights) plus the moon boards and campus boards for climbing-specific training. Its quite busy, even later at night, but is probably the nicest fitness area of any of the local climbing gyms. The vibe here is really what will make or break the gym for you. If youre like me and generally try to avoid crystal city/clarendon area then you will probably feel more at home at Sportrock where the atmosphere is more chill and the demographic is a little different. If hanging out in Arlington is your scene then you will absolutely love this gym.Lastly, this is a good bit more expensive than Sportrock. $6 more for day pass and almost $30 more for a membership. It has more amenities (nicer showers, the dope fitness area, etc) but if youre on a budget this probably isnt the spot. Overall a really impressive gym that can offer full feature climbing/fitness/weight training for somebody who likes the Arlington vibe.

Expect a great time climbing here. The walls are terrific, the setting is terrific, and the staff is terrific. The facility is always clean, but often feels packed with the after work crowd. The bouldering area has a huge variety of routes ranging from v.intro to v.13 with enough of everything to keep newbies and veterans entertained every day. The ropes area has as much variety as the bouldering area, with top rope and sport climbs ranging from 5.intro to 5.13. Finally, they have a decent amount of gear for sale. Many types of shoes, ropes, and harnesses. You cant go wrong climbing here.

This is in many ways a super climbing gym, with great facilities and instructors. Unfortunately, however, the ventilation in this space is terrible and the amount of chalk suspended in the air was, for me at least, intolerable. After the first time I climbed, I had a searing sore throat in the evening, which I did not initially connect to the gym. The second time I came, the same thing happened again, with the irritation developing almost immediately, and I coughed for days afterwards. I did not go back. I must be more sensitive to the chalk suspended in the air than the average person. But the amount of chalk in the air was so thick on my second visit, you could almost taste it. For any person this cannot be healthy, whether you are sensitive to it or not.I really think this gym should pay more attention to ventilation, for the health of the climbers. I also think the gym should educate climbers on the use of chalk. I see plenty of people dipping constantly into their bag of chalk, creating a big cloud each time they reach in. Perhaps the gym could suggest alternatives. Its a shame as I would have loved to continue with the indoor climbing.

Wonderful, massive facility; that never feels crowded. Its funny how rock gyms tend to take up a massive amount of space but can be very hard to spot from the street. Crystal City is no exception; they have some nice signage but its lost in a sea of office buildings. Parking is available in the garage; its either free or deeply discounted depending on when you go.The walls themselves are awesome; tons of climbing. Ive been 5 times now and have probably only climbed about 1/2 of the routes. Their is a massive area for lead only and it is epic. The bouldering cave just keeps going and going and going. If you are visiting DC from out of town Crystal City is full of hotels and it would be easy to strategically locate yourself near this location.

Pretty awesome place! But Im giving it 3 stars, because I believe they overcharge on many of their goods and deals. They have a family membership that some how does not work with siblings (Im a twin, and they wont let my twin and I create a family membership). It only works for married people and their kids. I dont know why this establishment is so strict with their family membership plans when they make more than enough money through training sessions and other courses they offer.

Great location, free parking (past 4 pm), massive bouldering space, variety of types of routes (slopey, crimpy, big moves, technical, etc), great gradation of difficulty (aka no inexplicably massive jump from v2 to v3, appropriately massive jump between 4 and 6), fun setting, well maintained facilities, and friendly staff. Background: climber for 13 years, member at ETCC for 4 months and just switched to SportRockThe good: incredible facilities, great setting and wall diversity, top notch training area, and fantastic leading opportunities...The bad: you can hardly hear yourself think in here. There are so many people any time a working professional (who gets out of the DC area on the weekend) would go that it is absolute madness. In fact, there are so many people that the gym has zero sense of community, it is harder to talk to people or find a core group of climbers than any gym Ive been to. My wife, also a long term climber, has anxiety and this gym was unbearable for her.At the minimum they need to add sound absorbing panels to reduce noise, but something drastic needs to be done about the overcrowding.

This review is a hard for me to write because I like this gym, but I hate the way they nickel and dime customers. The gym is solid. Its in the top 5 I have ever climbed in. Theres an extensive bouldering section, decent 35ft walls, weights, treadmills, and locker rooms. Solid! Its still new so all the climbs are still fun and they appear to have switched some of them out already which means theyre keeping up with it already. My issue with Earth Treks and the reason for two stars is their pricing/fees. I dont mind paying $85/ month as a member living near DC, but its the multi-gym pass, the start-up fee, and Family membership are disappointing. Why must I pay $6 extra/month to visit one of their other gyms? Id like to know how many members visit a different gym often enough that Earth Treks thought it would be a problem and they should charge more for it? What if I dont know if I will visit other gyms but Id like the option? Guess I better pay the premium. Crystal City (CC) is in their top pricing bracket too. I would understand if I was a member of one of the cheaper locations and they wanted me to pay the CC price to be able to visit other gyms, but instead, this is the opposite of that. What about this start-up fee? $59 for what? I come from climbing on the west coast, and I have never once seen a startup fee to become a member of a rock gym. Verizon charges me that much to send a technician to my house. What is Earth Treks doing for this? Silly. Finally, the family pass; Why must a person be married or civil unioned? Like I said before, I come from climbing West Coast, and Family/Buddy memberships are the same. I should be able to come in here with my friend/significant other/spouse or mother and pay the discounted rate that assumes we are paying more and also ensuring the business that they now have $150 coming to them monthly rather than $85. Thats the incentive to bring a friend and convince them to climb with you daily. Every time I signed up for a gym, I brought a friend because of the incentive. I boulder mostly so now I have no extra incentive to bring someone in for more than a random day pass or to use one of the membership included buddy passes.Oh and last thing.... $10/month to put my account on hold? I can cancel my membership, but I have to pay the start-up fee again if I return. As a military member, I have never seen something this absurd. Even Verizon will put my phone on hold indefinitely without any fees at all, and they are truly in the business of ripping people off.I know this review seems whiney, but I know this company can do better for its members. Maybe my review will inspire even one change, that will be a small victory.

This is a very good bouldering gym with a few flaws. I visited here while vacationing in the DC area, and wanted to get in a bouldering session. I did not top-rope at all, but that area looked very nice, and wouldnt suffer from the same padding problem that the bouldering area did.Pros:-Very nice/new walls and holds-Good distribution of problem difficulties, types-Very nice locker room-Very well-stocked store-Nice moveable systems walls-Lots of weights, bars, etc for training-Very good hold markings/colors-Nice staffCons:-Very hard padding for bouldering, bordering on dangerous IMO. I saw a climber hyperextend her elbow in the one time I visisted.-Very few volumes, volumes not integrated into problems with holds-Only one top-out boulder-Somewhat short walls-Relatively small selection of hangboards, minimal associated hardware (no chalk bag, brushes, timers)-No treadwall-Location seemed weird to me, close to metro but not sure how easy it is to park there

Annoyed and board of the same dynamic and compression climbing we decided to go try to get a lead belay test agin as we approached the staff (now 2 people at the desk)they were tying rope bow ties and playing with the ropes like children, so we ask for another test and they denied us agin even thought thier was two at the desk. This rock climbing gym looks pristine and clean. They do not offer a bunch of options though... This gym only benefits those living in CRYSTAL CITY during the night time - Only offering their REQUIRED introduction to climbing on the weekends (when working city commuters are at their homes in the suburbs) or at night (when again commuters are trying to beat traffic back home). They do not have belayers on staff to aid with climbing during the day and they recommend you find a climbing partner or just stick to bouldering and the gym...The gyms membership included classes (Yoga:strong, Yoga:relaxed, the burn, cct, core burn) are ONLY offered in the evening 5:30- around 8pm with exception of 830-9pm class twice a week and two Early Morning Yoga:relaxed (only class offered during basically the working day) twice a week.So for a commuter this gym offers you bouldering and gym for the same steep price with no discounts; and doesnt allow you to fully appreciate the services (rock climbing and daily classes) they claim to offer in the membership ($79- required intro courses Climbing/Movement, $59 startup fee, $89 monthly individual membership). This might be a good option for you if you are in the city, but for commuters this is a terrible option. I would recommend to the management to create a program with some classes during the middle of the day and have random extra belayer on staff during certain times of the day to accommodate to the thousands of commuters that come into the city for work everyday... Or lose them to other gyms that create programs to match their lifestyle.
