Everything was great besides the terrible service. Our bartender was very condescending up until we paid and it was like a switch flipped. She knew we were signing our tip so she suddenly was very nice. When we asked for a second drink, she went over and sat on her phone and ate before pouring the drinks.Music was great though!

Great atmosphere, great drinks, and Shane and Tobby are awesome! However, I am only rating these three stars because their bartender Shayla is the absolute worst. From now on if I go there and see that she is working, I will turn around and walk straight out. This is the fourth time I have gone in there when she was working, and she was completely rude and condescending. She gives you attitude when you order, rolls her eyes at you, and half the time she just stands in the corner on her phone.

Nice change of pace for Arcata. Mostly older crowd, usually very good live music, cocktails are reliable though nothing exceptional... staff is friendly and professional, always a gamble in our college town.Huge minus is the food: $12 for a plate of precut pita, hummus, carrot sticks and some olives straight out of the fridge. A little effort in that area could mean a huge improvement of the happy hour experience.

Great venue for jazz and blues music. Nice bar. Really terrific selection of seating arrangements from intimate to groups.

Incredibly cool jazz club with a great vibe. This is our new favorite place in Arcata! This area has some fantastic jazz players and this is a great place to hear them.

Rude service, mediocore jazz and VERY expensive drinks.We went and visited the Basement for the first and last time. The place itself is set up nice, however the drinks are Extremely expensive. 20$ for an Irish coffee! When inquiring about the cost ( as the reciept only printed the total amount) the bartenders responded smugly and berated us for only leaving a 2$ tip for two drinks. I am usually a good tipper as I am myself a server, but the service was extremely slow. I watched my drinks sit on the bar for about 10 minutes before they were brought to me. Furthermore, the rudeness of the bartender was astonishing as he replied to our questions with come back never I DO NOT recommend this place if your wishing to find a laid back jazz spot.
