Our family has been attending this location of Goldfish for 3 years. We are consistently impressed with their commitment to quality lessons and safety in the water. During COVID they have created procedures that make us feel comfortable continuing to attend.

We are just blown away week by week at how great the staff is here. Our instructor Kari is just so phenomenal with our daughter. Everyone here is so patient and kind, and goes above and beyond. Last week our daughter was having a hard time in class and was being more shy than she normally is. Another instructor (Trevor) jumped in and worked one on one with her and even the deck supervisor came out to talk to me about our daughter’s hesitancy with swimming and he offered some great suggestions with how we can help her feel more comfortable in the lesson while still learning and having fun. You guys rock!

I highly recommend. I started bringing my 6 year old daughter here for swim lesson about a year ago and its been a great experience. When we first started she didnt like going under (would cry when she went under) and could not swim at all and always needed a “floatie” in the pool. She loves swim class and has made tremendous progress in the pool! She is able to swim the length of the pool now (without a “floatie”) and can also swim under water and get dive sticks! Also, when it comes to Covid, this facility is taking all the proper precautions to keep the place clean. Everyone wheres masks, except the kids while swimming. Swim instructors wear face shields. Changing rooms, bathrooms and waiting area chairs are sanitized between every class.

Today was our second class with our 2 1/2 year old. We travel from Jackson , MI to attended. I really loved the classes a lot! But they make you wear a mask in the water with your child & the YMCA of jackson does not. So we will not be back to Goldfish swim school. Also , today as we entered they let us know that from now on only one parent is allowed to attend the lessions. That also is another reason we are chosing the YMCA. The swim class is great bonding time for my son and I. But my husband also really enjoyed that he could watch us. I am just saddened that we started my son there thinking we would be sticking with it and now have to change. But thankfully we only have been going a short time. Other than these issues I think this place is great!

We patronized this business for approximately 2 years before having to relocate. The swim lessons were usually very good especially Connor. The poorest part of our experience unfortunately was when we had to leave. Obviously COVID 19 shut the facility down and we lost 3/5 of a month of lessons that we had to pay in advance (approx $75). I contacted the management team multiple times as we were moving out of state to a location with no goldfish school to try to get a prorated refund however was told they were not able to process this because they were closed (yet able to answer emails?). After another month and a half passed and I still could not get a refund and was about to relocate I initiated a credit card partial chargeback for services not rendered which seemed like an open and shut case to avoid having the chargeback window close.Unfortunately goldfish decided to fight my chargeback claiming that I was not entitled to a partial refund after all even though intimating by email that I was in fact going to get something when they reopened. They clearly believe that their operational costs outweigh customer experience and policy even in extenuating circumstances and that the impact on them as a business justifies essentially theft for prepaid services that were never rendered. This unfortunately speaks volumes about the predatory behavior of their leadership. As a result I would recommend not patronizing this business under their current ownership solely because of this callous display to protect their bottom line (which cant possibly be impacted that hard by $75...).I would be concerned about how they would respond if other more serious disagreements arose.Regarding the swim lesson component, our daughter had a great time most lessons (a few with teachers we didnt click with where she cried at the poolside the whole lesson not withstanding).Update 8/24/20-We were surprisingly contacted last week with the offer to issue a full refund as indicated by the response to my comment which surprised me. They told us to wait a week to see if the refund would go through, which we did and it did not. I just called back today and was told that because I pursued a chargeback they actually would not issue me a refund which is contrary to the manager response here. So I believe the content of my review still stands although I would have been willing to change it had it not gone this way.

We’ve love the infant swim classes here. Warm pool and inviting environment. Connor is a great teacher who explains the theory behind each drill. I love getting my son comfortable in the water and seeing him learn the basics of swimming. I feel that he will be safer around water and also gain confidence both in and out of the pool.

This place is really great! My son is 2 and in mini 3 class so I dont have to go in the water... Yay! The swim instructors are all great with the kids, hes had different instructors because weve had a few make ups that we had to to which the staff were so accommodating. His normal instructor Ms. Lee is amazing and hes doing so well in swim class. My son loves to swim and has since hes been little but if you have a child afraid of the water this is the place to go they do so well with the children even the ones that start the lesson kicking and screaming the coaches are able to calm them and by end of the lesson they dont want to get out of the pool.I only wish they had longer classes for the toddlers an hour would be so much better for the ones that really like the water because a half hour just isnt long enough when split between 3 or 4 kids and then if class with scared kids your kid gets even less time. Also wish progress of your little one was passed on from teacher to teacher when doing make ups.

My family loves Goldfish! I didnt know what to expect when we signed up for classes, but after the first day, the only regret I felt was that we hadnt started sooner. The instructor is so friendly and attentive to each student, and I am so thankful for their focus on water safety for even the youngest swimmers. The staff are friendly and helpful, and we enjoy going for classes and family swims. The facilities are clean, spacious, and accommodating--a hair drying bar? They thought of everything!

I wanted to set up one time lessons for my daughter this summer due to our busy schedule. Goldfish wanted me to sign papers for a monthly membership and then told me I could sign another paper when I came in that would cancel the membership. I didn’t feel comfortable signing the membership papers because they explicitly said I’d have to pay monthly. I told them this and they said it was their policy and charged me for an appointment even though I called the day before explaining I didn’t want to sign the paperwork. I tried to talk to a manager several times but was not able to reach one by phone and after multiple requests they never returned my calls. I’m not sure how the lessons are, but they really need to reconsider their paperwork for drop ins and not just ignore people with legitimate concerns. I wouldn’t recommend going here. I’m sure there are better options in town.

This is my second year with Goldfish. My four year old daughter learned to swim pretty quickly through this amazing school last spring, and we are back for the second spring in a row for my three year old son. His lesson today went great! The coaches were friendly, prepared, and diligent. It is after the lesson that prompted me to write this review. I lost my keys. My car is not supposed to lock with the keys inside, so I assumed they fell from my pocket inside and maybe a child picked them up. The women behind the desk searched and searched for me. They asked everyone if they found them, even calling some families that left. They entertained my son while I was on the phone with AAA, they fed him snacks for free, they even walked my water bottle down the sidewalk to another shop. The went ABOVE and beyond to help and were so warm while doing so. I have recommended this school to many of my friends and they are all thrilled as well. There is no better environment to teach your child how to swim.

This place is amazing! We had heard great things from friends and family, and they exceeded our expectations. Our son (4) had taken swim lessons at another facility, but hes very stubborn and it didnt go well. The teachers at Goldfish were able to help him make an incredible amount of progress in a one week jump-start class. Hes now starting a session of weekly classes and hes already able to swim about six feet without any assistance. The teachers are very friendly and great with the kids, and they provide helpful feedback to us at the end of each lesson. Theres a nice seating area for parents outside of the pool area, with a big windows so you can watch the classes. Their prices may be a little more than other swim schools, but its well worth it.

In four days (jump start clinic} Goldfish took a five years old girl that screamed at being splashed and a eight years old boy that had high anxiety about the water into confident children around water. My daughter loves it! The teachers are caring and very patient with my daughter! my daughter has a mild form autism so she needs someone with patients. The only thing thats keeping me from giving it a 5 star rating is the time spent with my child. she maybe gets 10 minutes of time and we pay for 30 minutes. theyre a total of 4 kids one person works with so she doesnt get the 30 minutes we pay for. If it wasnt for her loving it there so much I would look else where. its very expensive for 10 minutes of one on one.

The customer representative of Quinn is unfriendly and sneaky. Her manager of Kathy is not useful either. My son is sick last week and I called in before his class to cancel it. When I tried to schedule his make up but was told, since I didnt call in last week, that my son was not eligible to do make up. Quinn asked whom I spoke to last week. Of course I couldnt remember that persons name. My phone record showed that I made that phone last week. But that didnt convince her. I spoke later to Quinns manager of Kathy. They even went on to indicate that I have tried to schedule more make up class than my son is eligible. They suggested that, in the future, I should record who I talked to.What a great customer service!

Yesterday, I took by 6 year old to Goldfish for his first swim lesson. My son was crying, shaking and breathing really heavy and wanted to leave. Mr. Keinan asked to talk with my son without me and within about 5 minutes, Ben wanted to put on his swim suit to sit on the bench with Mr. Keinan to watch the other kids swim. After they sat on the bench for a couple minutes, they were in the water!!! Mr Keinan spent some one on one time with Ben and then he finished his lesson with Ms. Kari and didnt want to leave Goldfish! He woke up this morning and said he cant wait to go back. When I asked what he liked about his teachers, he said they were his friends and that he knew he was safe with them. Im not sure what they talked about but I was the mom crying on the other side of the glass watching my scared child smile and enjoy his first swim lessons. We cant wait to go back next week!

Our family has been going to Goldfish for roughly four years. Weve been happy with instructors and the method does work. However, reviews are correct that your child will be one of four and only get 7 minutes of swim time. The new level changes have made it even worse since there seems to be an abundance of lower level swimmers placed in to the wrong class. The teachers spend so much time with the kids who are struggling that your childs already limited time is further decreased. Were also very frustrated with the non existent tracking of makeups. An employee has to manually enter on a specific date that your child has an absence then they have to go back through and look for the absence to see if you have an absence. Like other reviews have said it is then at the descretion of the employee to grant you that absence. So discrimination of who gets unlimited makeups and who does not is rampant. Since the cost is roughly $20 per session per child its like gambling on who you speak to... The previous review was correct between sick days, poop/spit up in the pool, other commitments youre paying a super high premium. Private classes seem to make more and more sense. Also I always wondered why people would randomly pull their kids in and out rather than keep them in their class. Now I know that there undisclosed policy that they have never show in past, but randomly when they deem they dont like the person or whatever is 12 makeups in a year. So by June youve hit your limit. Minds well pull them out every other month and cherry pick the way Goldfish does for when you child attends. I would think that they would like the consistent income of keeping students enrolled year round given the price $180 per month for two children. Bottom line expensive and dont base your decision on their generous, but only if they like you descrimate all over makeup policy:) Seriously torn if we should look elsewhere:(6/27/17 - Update - Spoke to Katie Womack the General Manager at Goldfish today and she addressed the issue of the inconsistency regarding makeup policy and will address it with staff. Unfortunately they can not change the software, but thats understandable. As long as inconsistency between staff members is addressed. She assured me that our children will be able to use their makeups now and going forward. She also said they are working on any issues regarding the new level changes. I should make clear that the issues were in Jumpstart weekly clinics and not during our childrens regular classes. Katie was very nice and professional and addressed all of my issues. This conversation has definitely changed my opinion and our kids will continue to attend Goldfish year round. Ive updated the number of stars to reflect my opinion.

Its tough. Our kids love it. But in a half hour they only get 7 minutes of lessons. 4 kids in each group, and they dont give them anything to work on while the other kid is practicing. So each kid gets about 7 minutes of actual swimming. When you factor in weather, pooping in the pool or spit-up, or your kid missing due to illness, the cancellations build up. Their make-up policy is really what makes me crazy. They conveniently never have a make up time available. So when you try to plan ahead and schedule make-ups farther out, guess what...they dont let you schedule make-ups more than a week ahead. So, we figure we pay roughly 4 times as much money for these lessons than the private ones we tried. If you have pre schoolers and a parent that doesnt work, make-ups are much more available early in the day. Our friends at GF pretty much say they stopped counting make-ups that they had banked. Per hour, we figure you pay about $180. Thats based on 1 cancellation per month due to either weather or sickness or GF cancelling due to Poop etc...and 7 minutes of swimming per lesson. I do like their technique, it seems to work given the short amount of time with the kids. Very hands-on. This place is a better make-up policy away from being much better but still expensive.
