Loved my first tile bought at a local gallery, so bought 3 more directly from Motawi. Loved them and so bought 2 more. Those got hung up in transit. Hated working with the shipping company, but Motawi came through for me and made that much easier. Their customer service was great. Its when a problem occurs that you really learn if a company stands behind their product and services.

Ive lived in Ann Arbor for years and always planned to do the Motawi Tileworks tour (offered twice a week, Tue at 1 or Thur at 11) and finally got there today. The tour is interesting, the tiles beautiful. All questions were answered thoroughly and professionally. We are fortunate to have Motawi in Ann Arbor, but the tour and the tiles are for anyone!

Thank you , Motawi, for beautifying the University of Michigan Hospital. My wife was in a considerable amount of pain during her recent stay and I took frequent walks to clear my mind, and , truthfully : to pray . When the human heart is heavy with sadness, and worry and fear, it looks for comfort. That’s what your art and tile mosaics provided me : a sense of color, of warmth and , most of all, comfort. During my daily walks, I would stop at each gorgeously placed tile installation and : marvel. The lovely flower tiles of Irises ( my wife’s favorite flower) gave me reason to stop and pause for a moment- - - to be grateful for all of life’s little pleasures - - - especially the ones that seem to serendipitously bloom suddenly before you and reach out to you , to comfort you as you continue on your way.. back to your wife’s hospital room, sitting bedside, taking her hand gently and recounting to her the lovely iris tiles that colored your walk .. and made you smile for a moment.

We visited on the day of the winter extravaganza and had a great look around behind the scenes. Some wonderful tiles available and overall an enjoyable visit. Would have been great if the person we spoke to could have suggested whether they had Penrose-style tiling available, but the place likely was too busy that day for that question I guess.

I purchased one of their 6x6 tiles online. When I was in the process of purchasing 1 6x6 tile, I though that the shipping charge was a bit high, but over double actual shipping costs is unreasonable, deceptive, unethical and unwarranted. We paid $22.11 for shipping just 1 6x6 tile from Michigan to Iowa. Checking with UPS retail rates, it would have cost only $11.02 for a 9x9x5 box weighing 3 pounds. That is a retail rate, so since you are a business Im sure that it was less than the retail rate of $11.02.We were going to, over time, buy a new 6x6 tile for our clock for each season and holiday, but we dont like getting ripped off. Do you?

A beautiful place to spend time looking at unique tile designs- we went to look at exterior house numbers and ended up with great ideas for a kitchen backsplash. Whether its full designs or individual collector tiles, we love the Charlie Harper birds, there is something for everyone.

Ann Arbor Gem - Motawi is an amazing place with pottery art tile. Their beautiful installations can be seen in the U of M Hospital elevator lobbies and many other places around town. After they went up and I was in the hospital with family, I specifically stopped on every floor to see each of the beautiful and unique works. There is a store connected to the place where the pottery is made (on the outskirts of town) and there are knowledgeable and friendly staff to answer any questions. The tiles are stylish, substantial, well made and carefully decorated. They make wonderful gifts! And they also have a room with discounted tiles that didn’t quite make their high standards for regular sale.

Unmatched beautifully handmade tiles for both installation and as pieces of art. This is their production facility but they have a small shop on site. They offer nearly perfect seconds at 25 to 50 percent off regular prices, which generally start at $50 per tile.

Recently I attended the tile sale and was very disappointed that the lines were as long as they were with barely any discounts. I also hear a lot of bad things in town about how this company is run. Sounds to me like there’s a real problem with constant firing, high turnover, and employee dissatisfaction. Lovely tiles, but at what cost?

Motawi tile does great work! Wow! However, their owner is not someone I would ever want to give business to again. She has an excessive flatulence problem. Though I can sympathize, it’s hard to pick out tiles having to deal with the constant flatulence.
