Its just a nice simple state park. Plenty of trails to walk. Some historic buildings and native american sites. A campground. Areas the play, etc. There is also a nature center. We went on an October Tuesday at about 10am and it was not busy. The hikes are nice enough that we try to go at least once a month.

First time we checked mounds state park out. I took my 3 kids and a couple friends children (oldest being 10, youngest being 4) they all loved it! I didnt get to see all the awesomeness this park has to offer (with kids) but from what we did see was beautiful. We just moved to chesterfield so I will be back little by little to see all and hope to one day go in the bronnenberg family home..I love historic homes!

We had our first visit to Mounds State Park today. It was a little busy because they were having a Halloween egg hunt for the kids. The team hiding the eggs did a great job and the continued to hide more eggs throughout the event hours. It looked like the kids had a great time. We enjoyed the fall weather and hiking/walking the trails. It was very beautiful and we will definitely be making the short trip from Indy more often.

Personally one of my top 5 Indiana State Parks. It contains it all; history, elevation changes, a river, and a reasonably sized loop. You can do the largest loop in an hour and a half and two if youre trying to enjoy the views, birds, or deep in conversation.

Lovely park! This park has fairly easy trails to walk along the White River and through woods. You can also view ancient mounds and learn about their history. Beautiful scenery and a great trip for a few hours in nature. If you live in the area, this is definitely a place to visit.

Totally surprised to see the number of people at Mounds Park, some not practicing social distancing, while many others played it safe, with the COVID-19 restrictions lifting a little bit.The trail was great, our dog had a blast and it was his first time going out to a public park.Definitely a spot Ill visit more and recommend others do so also. Trails, fishing, swimming, hiking, camping - Mounds is great.

The park is nice and well-kept. Ive been to Turkey Run and other parks and never had an issue with the maps and trail numbers. However, it was either the map, the heat or something but half the time the numbers didnt match up to what was on the map and there are multiple routes on the map that are all named 3.Also, dont go expecting anything very rugged. Its mostly flat, scenic walking paths.

Not my favorite of our state parks, but this is still worth visiting. The park is clean, and a beautiful place for a picnic or quick hike. Compared to other state parks, though, it just isn’t quite as exciting. The mounds are really interesting, but not for my kids yet. The old amusement park is interesting, but still not for my kids. My kids mostly enjoy looking for birds here. We’ll keep visiting and taking advantage of the quiet here.

I was excited to see the mounds and walk the trails. Unfortunately, the trail signs dont match up with the map. There was an A trail that didnt exist in the map. Trail 3 meet up with trail 4 and that doesnt ever happen in the map. Trail 2 and trail 3 met up in a different spot than they were supposed to. And God only knows where trail 5 was in all of this. The signage needs a serious update and needs to be increased. There were a lot of unlabeled forks in paths. Was also disappointed in the bird watching area of the nature center. It doesnt seem to have been cared for at all so far this season.

We arrived at 7:00am to go hiking. The hiking paths are very nice and clean. Path alongside the river is windy and kept clean. Reason for three stars is so much traffic around 10:00am on a Saturday morning. No access to public bathrooms near the trail. Signage needs to be better displaying areas of the park and trails should be labeled better.

Great State Park experience. Nice visitors center with displays and animals that will satisfy kids and adults alike. Clean bathrooms and a small gift shop. Each employee we encountered was helpful and friendly. There are a variety of shorter trails with a variety of difficulties. A nice shaded playground area is available in the northern section. The south is dominated by the amazing earthworks. The only thing I would suggest is some sort of signs directing you to the various trailheads. Once in the woods, the trails are sort of all jumbled close together, but if you can read a basic map, you wont have any trouble. A lot of the trails close to the mounds were flooded, or had large mud swamps to traverse. Especially in front of the information sign by the Great Mound. It seems like this park doesnt get a lot of state funding for outdoor upkeep, unfortunately, because the trails and fencing all are in need of repair.

It packs a lot of history and scenery into a small area (among the smallest state parks Ive ever been to!). I am knocking it a star because its SO crowded. I didnt think that many people lived in Anderson. Do they all go to this park on weekends? And come on people, where are the masks and social distancing!? Still, I cant be hypocritical because just by showing up, I contributed to the aforementioned crowding. Maybe go midweek in the morning, and I bet its great and serene. I like the dramatic elevation differences because it means you can actually get a workout (unlike some completely flat IN trails).

The campgrounds are small but relaxing. However the entrance staff to the park as well as the campground staff are unfriendly and even rude. The DNR guys are on you as soon as you park your camper and try to unload your second vehicle. You can only have 1 car in the campgrounds. You had better understand and memorize the rule book because they are pulling rules out that I have never heard of in my 4 years of RV camping in Indiana. We are trying to get the 33 Indiana State Parks Explorer Program Pins this year. We have 19 so far and this is the first campgrounds that I can promise not to visit again. If it wasnt for the pin I would have left and went to another State Park. Definitely a place to pass on because of staff! I rate the parks a 2 because the campsites are roomy and are paved level.

This is a beautiful park! Although Mounds is super close to my home Id never been there before today. I guess I didnt realize what a cool place it is. The trails and facilities are really well kept and they are plenty of sign boards that explain the Mounds and the history of the park. The only down side was the price, which was $7 per car load. Since it was just me and my dog it was a bit steep, but now that I know what a gorgeous place it is Ill see about a yearly pass. My dog and I spent about three and a half hours exploring the woods and theres still a lot more to see! Well absolutely be back soon.

Mounds are out that. Mounds of dirt with grass and tree growing on the mounds. Good place for a picnic.

Ni
Review №53

The park itself was very beautiful and interesting to see the mounds. We stayed in the campground which was pretty as well. The reason for the terrible rating is the risk to personal health. The biggest issue is the amount of raccoons (counted 15) running around, guarding the dumpsters and being a menace at the campsite. You can’t eat outside or leaving any food around, otherwise the raccoons will come right to you to steal the food. The camp host had to push away a unafraid raccoon with a stick since it was taking food from their outside table with them sitting at it. The dumpsters had at least 5-8 raccoons in and around it at all times. Even with the lids closed they still would get in and be trapped waiting for someone to open the lid to run out. We are talking inches between you and several escaping raccoons. This is dangerous under normal circumstances. However it is even more of a concern with COVID-19 since these raccoons are rummaging through potentially infected trash then walking over to my site, my picnic table or anything else laying around. It is unacceptable, it is a health risk and a lawsuit waiting to happen. We will not return.

The park is beautiful but the campground is overrun with raccoons, day and night. They are now completely afraid of people and have a limitless food supply at dumpsters. They were all over our campsite and stole food basically from right beside us. They’ve strewn trash all through the woods around the campsites and no one has cleaned it up. It’s a clear and dangerous problem.

(I go to state parks to hike so that is the basis of my review.) A small park with easy trails. The entire park can be hiked in half a day. Im glad this area has been preserved, but its not especially interesting to visit. The trails are basically just walking in the woods so go elsewhere if you are looking for real hiking. The best section is along the White River. A good place for people who want to be in nature without having to take a trip to REI to get outfitted. Its nice that the restrooms/nature center is in the middle of the park so you can use the restroom while hiking instead of having to go along the trail, like you do at so many of the Indiana state parks. Note that even though the nature center closes at 4pm, the restrooms remain open when the park is open & can be accessed through the door on the side of the building next to the Coke machine.Signage on the trails is very poor so be sure to take a map and/or use a tracking app.

Short hike to the river. Bathrooms could use some good vacuuming to get rid of cobwebs and spiders and some new shower curtains are needed but over all we are planning to go again. In fact, we will make it a yearly trip if we can. And its in good location to get to the casino. Staff is very friendly and camping spots are quite large. At least ours were. Wonderful place to stay.
