Fun place to fish. It gets a lot of pink salmon. The tide is extreme so it is really muddy at low tide. It is one of the closest salmon streams to Anchorage. It has nice access and good parking.

After a long drive I had to pulled over for a quick 2-mile hike along Bird Creek. Theres a short trail connecting the route underneath the highway which I thought was cool. Be mindful of wildlife when you hike alone. The scenery is stunning despite the sound of passing cars on the highway.

So calm. Lots of people fishing. Great quick stop if you would like to watch or take your time and fish.

Great hike, medium level hike with slight inclines. Bears in spring and early summer often with their young- so be careful, wear bells, bring bear repellent. views are second to none!!

We parked at the bird trail access to hike the bird ridge trail. This trail took us roughly 2 hrs to the top and just over an hour back down. Its a 3500ft elevation gain in 2.7 miles. EXTREMELY STEEP. I had seen the trail as being listed as moderate to strenuous, but I would say its closer to strenuous. Going down was more challenging then hiking up, due to all the loos gravel - wear comfy shoes and trekking poles would be helpful. Be prepared to be in dispair when you thought you were about to get to the top and then it continues. Stick it out and go to the end, the views on a clear day are well worth it!!

The Bird Ridge Trail that you can access here is a brutal hike. There are parts of the trail that are as much as a 60 degree incline and very loose dusty Rocky gravel. There are some decent views about 1/2 and 3/4ths of the way up so even if you dont get to the top there is still a reward.

A picturesque setting for salmon fishing. Visiting relatives had a great time, lots of fun. Incoming tide snuck up on us, and we scrambled up the rocks! More fun!

Awe inspiring beauty of Bird Creek Access in Anchorage, ALASKA, was one of the most rugged yet tranquil and isolated spaces among the snow covered mountains I was blessed to discover and see. We see wonders like this on National Geographic, the Travel Channel, the News, The Weather Channel, HGTV, the risks courageous Truck Drivers endure, the Police and of course the residents of Alaska, however, being here in person is a true blessing.Mount Everest is my dream. Seeing the mountains here motivated that dream even more.Mount Denali: The highest point in the USA is in Alaska. Did You Know That?????I met a jovial couple who had been on 75 successful excursions together and/ or with other friends (how cool). They showed me some great photos of Asia.Visit with someone(s) else so that you can share this magnificent moment together. I did see couples, singles, and trios of friends strolling along or climbing the mountain paths. As well as a couple of bikers and a mom biking with her child. Nature is wonderful. Enjoy! Simply an incredible place to visit in the winter. Its just off the highway with a short 3-minute walk from the parking lot to the bridge and river.Be careful if you dare to walk on or close to the frozen river. It is thin in places and obviously very cold. Ive taken my kids many times but I keep my eye on them. For those without children, explore as much as youd like but wear boots with ice grips if you plan on going too far on the ice.
