Fairview Rec Center has turned into a place to house those in need. Its not the most comfortable conditions housed in a gym on cots. As I was moved from the brother Francis Shelter 3 or 4 days ago where I had a personal fridge for things like make and other stuff,a day after being here they saw me pouring a bowl of cereal in the gym to take to the cafeteria to eat and while was upstairs they came and grabbed my bags going through them saying they were to dispose of the milk not even willing to put it in the cafeteria fridge. I am in fact thanful for warmth and the food they provide but am still hungry often

My Mother Ms. Rebecca was the lead person in the Fairview Community to brainstorm how to have a community center for Fairview bthe city council decided Fairview didnt need one they sighted we the citizens of Fairview had the City Gym in downtown Anchorage but my mother Rebecca Kinney of Kinneys Beauty Salon and Spa wanted us the children of Fairview to have a recreation center of our own so she took the steps as the first Black Woman Cosmetologist (1951) She was a pioneer and sourdough I resently found the rough draft we.later went door to door with copies of this letter here at 1230 East 9th Ave our home sense 1951 here is one of the original typed up rough drafts.The images are1. The lady at the front has chips on her shoulder. they dont have a schedule or sign saying the activities for the day. but i hear they have steam room. They do have a cummunity meeting with task force that gives insight on the crime intelligence that are happening in the neighborhood and try to fix it. It was nice meeting Mrs Wilhelmina Green i forgot to ask what organization she owns

Great place for positive activities benefiting good health. I use to work out with competing bodybuilders in their up stairs Weightlifting Studio or just practice in the up to date modern decor a-framed roofed, tinted skylights Dance / Piano studio meting ladies from every where in the world. I recall this special doll from England I hated seeing her return to her country. We were just down the hall from the creative arts pottery and painting room. All this was upstairs from the Jacuzzi showers and locker rooms connected to the basket ball court in the basement gym. The Fairview Community Center Is a great place to pass the long winter days or short summer nights. The center keeps you active and in shape and filled in with all the latest community news and helpful staff.

I was part of Red Cross Disaster Action Team fire response and we opened a shelter here for the victims. The supervisor was so helpful and caring to help us.
