This mountain is for beginners. The first half of it is walking, stairs, and elevation. The last half is just climbing. Once you make it to the top, the view is stunning! This is must! REMEMBER, The stairs is the hardest part. Once you’re past it, it’s not much harder at all. You can do it!

My favorite hike in Alaska during this trip. It was very strenuous at the very end, but it was very rewarding. Beautiful view 360 degrees. Wear the correct shoes and repellent for mosquitoes.

If youre looking for a great hike in the Anchorage area then consider Flattop Mountain.Did you know you can take a shuttle from Downtown Anchorage to the Flattop parking lot? Search for Flattop Mountain Shuttle and youll find it.During the summer Flattop is home to blueberries, bears, moose, and plenty of people. Be careful of dogs and runners around the corners. The parking is not free, so bring a $5 bill. Bring water and a snack with you too, no stores up here. Finally dress in layers to deal with wind. The top of Flattop is large enough to find a peaceful spot to rest. Youll find a few holes that will shelter you from wind. There is also a flag up here that many get their picture next to.In the winter time I like to bring up a thermos of hot coffee.

The most popular hike in Alaska. Moderate level but quick hike. The final 1/4 mile or so consists of switchbacks followed by some 3 point rock climbing. Dont underestimate that part of the hike, it can be challenging for those who arent accustomed to it. Take is slow and deliberate, and youll be fine. During the hike there are spectacular vistas to stop and take photographs. Once at the top you can walk around, and take in the 360 views of the surrounding valleys, water and mountains. In summer, there might be patches of snow to hike over along the trail. Bring some water and a snack. You will be stopping quite a bit to take in the views!

Not the most secluded trail in AK, but a fun trail at the end with the rock climb. Takes about 3 hours to really enjoy. Great views of Anchorage, but again, dont expect seclusion.

Easy hike at first but near the top can get to the point where using your hands is required. Dont recomend going up early spring due to the snow making you go up steep rocks where it becomes more like climbing.

This was a great hike that is a mixture of semi-challenging and fun! You have some minor rock scrambles and then some easy walking as well. I actually saw a moose calf on an earlier part of the trail, so be careful!

We generally hike the power line trail but the hike up flat top to the flag is a blast as well! I see moose almost every single time I have come no matter what time of year so pay attention, and be alert. Beautiful scenery with several trails. It costs $5 to park there but you can get an annual parking pass for around $60 at REI (and probably other places) if you plan on going frequently

Mar Hike: Wet and cold, but worth the hike for the view. People take their dogs here, so watch out for the small landmines left behind. Windy drive to a parking area, hike rest of the way. Spend about an hour there.

Flattop mountain is a quick but arduous hike not far from the sprawl of downtown anchorage. The views from the top are stunning, and the entire anchorage bowl can be examined from atop, making for interesting sight seeing and a game of pointing to where you lived in order to show your friend. The only downside to this hike is the vast number of people that can descend up on the mountain in summer months, making the park seem like a hip destination, as opposed to a scenic nature trail.

Was a moderately challenging and beautiful hike. The wind was whipping in our face from time to time and the trail was slick and icy. However we made it to the top in under two hours and enjoyed some fantastic views. Then we slid down about 700 vertical feet on our butts. Probably is a safer and smarter hike in the summer. However, we enjoyed it in colder temps all the same.

This loop trail was a great way to start my solo hiking adventure in Alaska. With the exception of the final summit, the trail was moderately easy with steps cut into the steeper sections. The final summit, however, was a completely different matter. It was a hard scramble to the top with a choose-your-own-adventure feel to the exact route. Somehow, I managed to lose the common trail both on the way up and on the way down. I still made it to the top, albeit with a few tense moments of sliding rocks and some skinned knuckles. And the views were worth it - I will definitely repeat the hike the next time I visit Alaska.

Absolutely gorgeous and I must see!! Went there for the first time and absolutely loved. The scenery there is amazingly beautiful and the trip there is not very hard if coming from Anchorage. Recommend checking out if you havent already and look forward to stopping by again when in town!! Also looks like they have hiking trails that would be fun to explore. Wasnt able to do so at the time but hope to do so when I go back.

Look, if youre not much of an experienced hiker, this will be difficult and intimidating. The steeper bits of dirt trail havent been kept up over the years, and portions are downright dangerous. But, cmon. This is a MOUNTAIN. This is about as accessible as mountains get in Alaska, and the trek to the top is beyond WORTH IT. Not posting my photos - go see it for yourself.Pro tip, go up the back side for a more gradual incline, to save your knees.

I posted pictures from my visit to the peak area. This was the day I left Anchorage to come back home after a week in Alaska. As I was told by a person from the hotel, this was a great place to take some panoramic views of the city and surrounding area. I didnt see any facilities but also stayed in only one area before leaving.

Best views of Mt.Denali and Anchorage! This is the shortest trail around which can be done by tourists who have very limited time. Its a good workout after a long flight journey. Even from half the hike you can see beautiful views. Its a strenuous hike but well marked, you can turn around from any point. There are more chances for sighting moose here.

Very nice views of the coast and anchorage from the top. I would say a moderate climb/hike for people in average shape. The last part of the accent is an actual rock climb using all fours to get up in spots. Can be a bit tricky for people that have never done things like this before. Some people were jogging up the trial and scaled the mountain quickly but we took our time and did the round trip in maybe three hours. Be prepared for a workout but its worthwhile.

Great hike to enjoy with the family!! Even minor rock climbing at the very top. Id say about the last 15-30 mins from the top very thrilling and adventurous!! A must do with the family or even just friends!! Also, you can even enjoy berry picking as us Alaskans do every year in the hills of Flattop among many many other places all across Alaska!!
