A lot of fun! There are so many options for games. Most of them are retro. There is also a karaoke stage.

Pretty fun. Wasnt entirely impressed with the bartenders drink mixing knowledge, but they were friendly. It was pretty crowded but we still enjoyed our time.

I love time out! Karaoke, video games and a good beer selection. How can you go wrong with that?

Fun bar with vintage arcade and pinball, along with more modern games. They all take quarters, and the bar area hosts various specialty nights, such as trivia night and karaoke. Reminded me of the 80s arcade Dark Star located in campus town.

Love this place. They have a great selection of games, a pool room (brand new!), and a great drink selection. Also a great place to go for karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights.

The most fun bar in Ames. Visit here at least monthly. Lots of game options. Lots of unique and delicious drink options. Service is quick and friendly. Sing some karaoke to have an even better time. Basically you cant go wrong visiting Time Out.

Fun place. Kinda something new so bring as many people as you want. No cover. Just order any of their great beers and get you quarters to play.

This place is fine. There are some cool games, and people seemed to be having a good time, but it was very loud (no problem with a bar being loud, just noting that its not one youd go to to sit and chat). Id go back.

Good tap selection if youre a fan of IPAs. Really slow service, though, took 5 minutes to get a beer even though the bartenders didnt look busy.

Great place for karaoke! Gaming vibes. Extensive cocktail menu is also a plus.

Every time I visit Time Out, I come away with a smile on my face! Playing all the old and new arcade games is fun for the whole family and a great getaway without having to leave town. I fully recommend Time Out for your next after work get together, Friday night out with friends, or family friendly event on a Sunday afternoon!

Making plans with a friend I mentioned that I wished Ames had something similar to UpDown (on Locust in the DM East Village). As it turns out, Time Out was that and more. Tucked away in a clean modern building is a full bar, great common area with tall tables and booths and a dedicated karaoke corner. So, arcade games? Everywhere. Classics circle the bar section. Mid 80s Nintendo staples: Excitebike, SMB, R-Type, Donkey Kong. Assorted classics like TMNT, X-Men and Tron round out the front room. Thats enough to make the place a must visit, but there is the entire back room. In the back half of the building, with its own thumping 80s and 90s soundtrack, is the main course of arcade offerings. NFL Blitz 99, Hydro Thunder, Elevator Action, The Simpsons, SFII, MKII, Off Road Challenge, Crystal Castles, Rush 2049, skeeball, basketball and several sections of pinball games offer something for everyone. There are dedicated dens for air hockey and N64. They even sell classic games and consoles. Ive seen pieces of this formula before, but all parts are so well executed here. The games run on quarters, and the prices are cheap. Multiple Iowa brews are on tap. Karaoke has 31,000 songs. Its even family friendly until 7PM. The fact that the staff was friendly and attentive was icing on the wonderfully nostalgic cake. What was intended to be the first stop on a night out in downtown ended up being the only stop and a must stop from here on.

Its a barcade with karaoke, making it basically my favorite place.

Its a great place to play some pinball and old video games. Food and drinks are cheap too.

This is a great place for a date night with my husband. Great music, friendly staff, owner is always available if needed and having the old school arcade is fantastic.

We held a 30th birthday party here this past weekend and the experience was great from beginning to end. We did it on Sunday when there was no liquor served so that it was kid friendly. The kids had a wonderful time and so did the adults the owner was very accommodating in helping us any way she could with the details of our party. This is definitely now one of my spots to go to whenever I get out for a night on the town.

Tight quarters with karaoke going on. Video games need some tlc, many need new cherry switches installed or contacts cleaned. Pinballs are better maintained and decent selection. Drinks are average priced.

I had a lot of fun at this place. And its cheap! Most of the arcade games are only a quarter to play and theres probably 100 of them. It also has many pinball machines, ski ball, and a separate room with an air hockey table. And all of those are only 50 cents!Theres also two other 90s themed rooms with a couch, TV, and old Nintendo games that you can rent out for $5/hr. Additionally, they have a bigger room for $25/hr. It has a big projection screen for Guitar Hero 3 and I believe some other systems/games.Since it is a bar (the drinks are good btw), you can do all of these things without having to worry about screaming kids ruining your time. But if its somewhere you want to show your kids, its open to all ages on Sunday afternoons.Highly recommend it. Even if you arent a huge gamer, youre still bound to find something you enjoy.

This place is pretty neat. They have so many arcade games, and decent drinks. Don’t miss the back room! They also have n64 rooms to rent, which makes for a lot of fun if you have a larger group.

It was a lot of fun with a bunch of retro arcade games. Decently priced drinks and the games were between 25 to 50 cents each.

We visited today during TOs kid friendly hours (Sundays 12-5) in hopes we would have uninterrupted Area 51 time and our kiddo could enjoy some games at his own pace. We were very impressed; CLEAN, reasonably priced, great selection of classic and newer games and the staff/owners were very friendly. They do not serve alcohol during kid friendly hours, but from what I could see behind the bar, it would make for an awesome night out as well. We would definitely recommend for kiddos (Sunday only) and adults -- Well be back!

Time out is an arcade bar type place. With many pinball machines and arcade cabinets this game is very fun they had 10 or so pinball machines and around 20 cabinets. Super fun they had cabinets like rally-x,dr mario, and dig dug. All their machines are in very good condition. I highly reccomend this place to hang out for a bit.

Its like, meh, for drinks. But who doesnt love retro games. So many to choose from. Love the pinball selection, but some of the games are corny and the place has a cold, industrial atmosphere with a 90s college party scene. Worth a visit, but not a place to hang for too long.

I had a work party here and everyone had a blast. Prices are affordable for a fun night out with games and drinks. Theyre also continuing to expand the beers on tap and food selection.

Best place in Ames hands down. If you haven’t gone and you live in Ames this place is a must.

Time Out has a good selection of machines for a Barcade. Staying between 25 and 50 cents, it has thing like Gauntlet, Bad Dudes, Area 51, and other classics. It also has a number of pinball machines, all of which seem to work rather well, including Addams Family, Game of Thrones, and Indiana Jones. Where Time Out has the most room for improvement is at the bar. They have a variety of hard liquor, nothing too outstanding, but covering the essentials. For beer, they have a lot of domestics, such as Bud Light, and others, but for craft, they have 2. For being in a state where craft breweries are incredibly popular and in a town of 3 craft breweries, I was disappointed. Perhaps their Des Moines competition set the bar too high. I also feel too many games were 50 cents instead of 25. Overall good place, and I would go if others wanted to go, but wouldnt pick this place myself.
