Also called Enchanted or Haunted Forest. In the early 1930 it was owned by Charles Cobb until he died and now belongs to the Forest Service. It’s also were the Sam Merritt Trail begins that leads to Echo Mountain, White City & Mt. Lowe railway ruins as well as Inspiration Point and other trails. Parking is free along Alta Loma & Lake Streets.

It’s a really great place to explore at night, but wouldn’t recommend too much noise because there are neighbors around. I was told that it used to be a drive way to a millionaires home. Didn’t see any animals or anyone homeless people in the Cobb Estate. Overall a pretty fun and not so scary trip.

Great park with awesome ruins. There are several trails that all pretty well maintained and marked. The hike itself is pretty easy to moderate if choose to take the trails to the top of the ridge. Not too crowded either. The parking is on the street though so be aware of signs.

I usually dont go out on a hike on Sundays but, I made an exception this past Sunday. The hike is 5.4 miles out and back, the hills are steep and can be tough for a beginner. Overall I was glad I went up the, the weather was amazing and the rays of the sun were really sparkling... it made the day that much brighter! Enjoy the views!

Beautiful hiking trail on the historic Cobb Estate. Beautiful iron and stone gate still stands. You can still see remnants of where a building stood. Great views of the San Gabriel valley and Los Angeles. Lots of cacti and other native plants. Gorgeously lit at golden hour. Moderate trails with several overlooks. Friendly hikers. Cute critters.

Come here for a hike. Bring water. Trail is well walked. Police will enforce parking and hours. They even walk up part of the walk with flashlights after 10pm so just be aware of the time. I visited during June of Covid. Place is open, please wear masks. Trails get narrow.

Its a great place to go if you want to hike in the Pasadena Altadena area without having to go really hiking hiking. I mean, you are walking along a trail to an old house thats now gone and theres trees and wood and you have a great View but if you want to go farther, there are actual trails that you can take. The trails go to Rubio Canyon Mount low you know, basically all points in that area. I have hiked those Trails before, and they were fun to do.

A great zig zagging hike in Pasadena, on clear days you’ll see as far as the ocean. This hike to the Cobb state round trip is 5 miles and dog friendly. There are some spots to stop and enjoy some scenery, and some shade in certain parts of the trail. There are no trash cans in the trail so keep your trash with you, bring lots of water especially in hot days. Also recommend coming in early morning to avoid big crowds as the paths are narrow, and finding closer parking to trail head! If you can keep on going, keep hiking up to reach inspiration point, which is another 2.5 miles from The first stop at echo mountain. Happy hiking :)

Really an amazing and enchanted hike. Ive been coming here since i was a kid and i love sharing it my kid. The sad thing is though is the graffiti. It breaks my heart that heartless punks go and ruin nature for everyone. And for what? Because they feel insignificant and powerless. Get over it! Parks and recreation try their best. The trail is well managed and manicured. So it is safe for all ages. Highly recommend!

This was a really chill hike. It offers a decent challenge, but nothing a lazy, sedentary, guy like me couldnt handle. The views can be pretty breathtaking at times. The street parking was also easy. Well definitely be back to see how much more of the hike we can do, with more time. When you pass the gates, its going to be a quick 2 minute walk, you want to look for a small sign, on your right, for the trailhead. It can be easy to miss if youre not paying attention.Shade is VERY limited, so it should go without saying that water and sunblock ate even more-so important for this hike. Dont forget to bring a bowl for your pup. Theyre gonna need it.The hike is all incline and at its widest points can only accommodate 2 people, shoulder to shoulder. The majority of the trail is extremely narrow. Bring good shoes and keep your eyes on the trail.

Echo Mt. Is becoming my favorite place for hiking. Sam Merill trail turned out to be unique hiking. Once I passed the facility with aluminium roof, the challenge begins right away.It is very stiff inclined and narrowed trail. It turned out this is easy part.Once I passed the electrical wire towers, the challenge is even greater. The rocky slippery elevated path is scary to be honest. At first try,I was slow and methodical on the climb. The trail itself is not that long I would say about 150 to 300 yards. I climbed it with my two dogs. On the second hiking I weared bicycle helmet. A rock slide is real possibities. If anyone hiking w/two persons it might be safer to have one person go up to the top.By the way,the top is asphalt road. This is to avoid rock slidding.Belive it or not climbing is easyier than climbing down.Going up use your hands much as possible. Combing down, make it short steps.Dig in you heels.Make sure one foot is secure before the other foot is lifted. Most important of all ,do slow down.It is great experience in relatively safe and short distance. As far as I know there is no other places offer something like this. One more thing, I want to thank the park staff for putting a new signs of map at the entrance. Take challenge. Enjoy!
