We really enjoyed our time at the museum and would highly recommend it. First of all, it’s free, can’t get any better than that! And it was so informative. Lived in Michigan most of my life and had no idea that Thunder Bay has so many vessels sunk there. It will take about 2 hours to see it and attend the films.

First of all, for free I dont see how you could have anything bad to say. This was a really neat place to visit. The coolest thing was definitely the storm experience on the boat at the entrance. The inside of the ship has good sounding audio simulating a strong storm. Lightning flashes in the windows, the boat creaks, the lights move on the wall... it was neat. The museum is also obviously full of shipwreck artifacts and info on the Great Lakes. There are also a couple of rooms with things recovered from shipwrecks. Be sure to open all of the drawers in here as there is a lot to see. I would HIGHLY recommend visiting here if you are in the area or it is on your way to wherever youre headed. We also did the glass bottom boat tour, but that has its own page where I will write its own review.

The museum is interactive and full of shipwreck artifacts. There are some childrens activities such as an indoor play area. If you go on the boat tour expecting buried treasure you will be let down. The tours are an extension of the museum that offers a view into the graves of the many wrecks of the area, while preserving them. With Besser museum and planetarium nearby, as well as several local restaurants and shops, you will not be disappointed spending the day in the area.

Beware of the glass bottom boat tour. Not enough viewing space or time for the amount of people on the boat. Expensive for what you get. Go on a good day so at least you can enjoy the ride.
