Invited up to play an outing. Great course. Great shape. I have never interacted with a worse golf course manager. Jerry treated the guests like trash. Unappreciative of people traveling to play the course. Love playing great golf in northern Michigan, but you can find many courses with a similar experience with a much friendlier staff.

Five Stars is hard but 4.0 is pretty good. Ive been coming to Alpena, MI for over 35 years. In that time I started playing this course when it was known as the Alpena Country Club and Dennis was the PGA pro. Ive played all over the planet, Rivers Edge is a well maintained, semi private facility that has a reasonable practice range, ( a great range has target greens, at multiple distances so reasonable is what Ive listed here), The course starts out innocently enough, a moderate par 4 that rewards a good drive and second shot. As you get into the course it evolves and requires solid play to maintain an even par score. Not excessively long, the greens there protect against the long hitters. Undulation and speed make this a course you could easily play every day. It would be nice if they had the budget to add some bunkering to protect it even more but this is a pretty darn good golf course. As for the PGA Pro, Ive met and sold more than 200 PGA golf professionals in my career as a golf sales representative. I find the current PGA Pro a likeable man that knows the business and treats his clients fairly and professionally. A previous post had criticized him. As we all know, 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us. Hes a good guy, and this is a better than average golf course.

Peaceful and clean golf course. Resonably priced. Food is good and course is fun and not overly challenging. Book your tee-time and enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended.

Course was in great shape, only reason its not a 5 star is because of that par 3 thats normally a par 5.. they replanted the fairway. Course was in great shape

The greens were a 9 out of 10. The course had 5 tees, playing very tough on a shorter course. 6600 total, a hidden gem.
