THIS PLACE IS AMAZING AND FUN!!!I started off the night with my husband and friend and Social Club Big Mistake!!! Luckily THIS PLACE TURNED OUR NIGHT AROUND FOR THE BETTER!!!It has so many dance floors!!! I especially loved the rooftop!!!! ITS SO SICKENING!!!Like you get to drink and dance and see and feel the Night sky!!Last night Thursday they had a nightmare after Christmas event on the first floor but everywhere else they had KILLER EDM!!!I visit family in Albuquerque every year and this is now the go to destination for me and my friends!! ILL BE SURE TO LET EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT HOW FUN THIS PLACE IS!!

Go after 1am and you dont have to pay a cover. Pretty much the best place to go if youre interested in dancing. They are 3 floors and a roof filled with dance floors and pumping music. Drinks are pretty average but if youre there post 1am I suppose that doesnt matter much.

This was my first time here and I had a blast! They have two levels and 4 different music rooms 1 being an outdoor stage which is were a DJ was celebrating her birthday and it was Lit!! Afterwards I spoke with her and got her info to check out more music! This is an awesome place to come hang out, party and dance!!!

Fun bar in Albuquerque. We first entered and the downstairs was kind of dead, before realizing there was an upstairs with a few room and an open air (roof) patio upstairs. Definitely make your way up there if visiting for the first time. There was a cover which seems a little over the top for ABQ considered some other bigger cities bars do not charge entry.Drinks were moderately priced compared to other cities, but more than I would have expected to pay in Albuquerque.

I love going here when me and friends want to go out.But I had my first bad experience when I went on 11/29/19 around 12am and the lady that was a security guard there was so rude. She was yelling at everyone, giving every person attitude and I wasn’t even drinking so I know I didn’t do anything wrong to upset her, she was just hating her job. I seen her yelling at the person in front of me so I made sure to be extra nice because I seen she was in a bad mood, but nope that didn’t help and she was still rude Besides that day, I love going every time.

A great experience!The outdoor roof top is outstanding! You can see a nearby historical building while dancing. It is really neat! Also, you can smoke cigarettes up there which is different from many other places.Inside you will find an array of different spots to dance, venture, and more. There is more than one dancefloor, dj, and level. This place rocks!

I went to see Andy Moor last week and the sound system downstairs was TERRIBLE. There was so much bass overpowering everything that it was difficult to make out what song was being played. While the place looks like it was low budget remodeled, and the sound upstairs and outside was decent, no one should ever have to pay money to hear the downstairs system. The constant assault to my ears made the entire night unenjoyable.

Bartenders will refuse to serve you or anything with you if they feel that you didn’t tip enough. This is not an observation this is being told directly from the bartender that “are you with him? Oh well he’s a bad tipper so we’re not gonna serve you if you’re with him.” That is absolutely unacceptable. The bartenders job is to serve drinks a tip is exactly that extra money for doing their job. I understand it’s frustrating but they’re are getting extra money for their work So if I tip $2.00 on a drink that’s already costing me $20 to get in and eight dollars for the drink that’s not enough of a tip? That literally is 25%. Or one dollar for a beer when literally all they did was get a bottle of beer and open it and had it to me and take my money. That sort of behavior is unacceptable and if you confront them about not getting served then they call security on you.

I merely asked about a happy hour, and all of a sudden Im a raging alcoholic, looking for cheap drinks. Definitely too upper class for me. And,by the way, many night clubs have a happy hour. The only reason I gave 1 star, is cause you have to give something to give a comment. ZERO

The bartender on Saturday night (Aug 3rd. 2019) that was working downstairs by the dance floor added $5 to my tip. WTF, he didnt think Id check my bank account. Beware.By the way I gave a $3 tip on a $12 bill, so not that bad of a tip to begin with. No Way he mistook the tip line of $3 for an $8 and the total line of $15 for a $20.

Big club, bar service was great considering how many people there were.

I appreciate that they play fun music to dance to, but the place needs some kind of ventilation, it smells terrible when people start piling in. Security and door guy were kind of rude, hence the 3 stars. I get that you may deal with drunk, difficult people all the time, but that doesnt mean you have to just be rude by default.

Good music, good drinks, fair prices. Security is always very on top of things. The only thing I dont like is that if you come before the cover kicks in, you cant leave and come back in - they will not give you a stamp unless you pay the $10. If I purposely get there before the cover charge, I should be allowed back in without paying the cover charge. :/ That irritated me enough last night to leave earlier than planned.

Came down to see DJ Angelz play last night 10/26/18. The club was so much fun. It has 5 diffrent rooms each with its own style of music. The staff was very professional and the bartenders fun and active. All but one. She was very short, rude, made smerks, and acted as if she hated what she was doing. Those in my group and many others felt the same way. I asked her if there where any drink specials or any house specialty drinks and she rudely said No.. What is that you want but in a very rude mono tone. She helped another couple and my friends. Everyone seemed to have the same experience with this bartender to the point people were avoiding her and going to the other side.The entire night she just frowned and poured drinks. Other than that Effex night club is amazingly fun. I hope Club Effex reads this and provides her feedback in the sense that as staff, she is a representation of the club.

Ive visited effex nightclub for a few years. Tonight, the bartender with blonde hair, on the top outdoor level treated me well. As the night progressed I was toward the front of the crowd with some friends. Suddenly there was a barrage of people who wanted my spot. I gave way for the most part. But there was one who wanted my direct spot. I refused to give it up. I was subsequently kicked out at approximately 12: 47AM. I feel I was mistreated for forcing to give my spot. As a patron for many years, I feel like I am no longer safe at effex, and it hurts me to say that. My girlfriend and I drove down from Colorado to see Keys n Krates and we both were not disappointed in the slightest. This club blew our minds with how big it was and how many dance floors were scattered around. Also we had no idea it was a gay club until we arrived, and we felt right at home. Well definitely be coming back for another show soon!!

I would give this zero stars if I could. We went on a Thursday night and they charged a $15 cover for this bar. There was nothing going on. This was the first establishment we entered on this evening. I went to the bathroom first thing while my brother and girlfriend went to the bar to order drinks from Nester (the security guard told us his name). I walked up slightly delayed from their drink order and was slightly indecisive. He motioned his hand towards his crowd and said that he had a whole bar to attend to soooo... I have been a server/bartender for almost a decade and have never given nor received such rude service from ANY server. The door guy, Richard, was completely not understanding and stated there was no available manager on shift. How does one handle a grave situation with no one in charge? The security guard totally brushed us off. I would NEVER EVER recommend going here. We paid $45 to get in for horribly rude service and no enjoyment. Go support another business that cares about you. The front door guy, Richard, tried to start a confrontation with my brother as we left.

I went to Effex last night and it was a lot of fun except that I only got 3 drinks and I was completely wasted because they were over poured 2-3x. I should not have been as drunk as I got. That is extremely dangerous.

This was my girlfriend and I first time being here, and were treated poorly since the minute we got there.The door man should be a corrections officer.The bartender upstairs, needs costumer service training and probably some chill pills.Bouncer like to rip you off to use the restroom.Makes the local LGBT community looked very bad.First and last time here.

This is a dance club for young drunk people. It’s listed as a gay bar but lots of people go. I refuse to pay a $10-20 cover for any bar, especially if it also requires standing in line for 20 minutes. So if you want to get drunk and hook up with random people then this is probably your place.

I mainly wanted to give this place a second chance. But to be honest, I thought this place was gay friendly and it is not. When I first arrive in Albuquerque last year, I wanted to go out and party in New Mexico nightlife and I went to the effex that a local told me about. At first everything was fine and people were going in but when I was next the door man who had a ridiculous attitude that day. I showed my ID which in that time, last year had my Californian drivers license, he looked at it and said I couldnt go in. Ok so first I thought it was expired and it wasnt he did mention the reason I couldnt go in is because of my weight. This was a total discrimination and harassment, I laughed about it but seems this place does have a strict rule of over weight people. I will never set foot into your doorway ever again. But thank you for giving me this horrible experience for the first time in my life.

Always a good time if youre looking to party! Fyi this club welcomes straight AND gay customers. If you have a problem with either, please dont show up. Everyone gets along and I have never had an issue with any customer there. Three different stages and settings depending on different style preference.

My husband and I attended goth night last Thursday and enjoyed ourselves and the vibe. The crowd was interesting and mixed. This staff was friendly and cordial and we enjoyed the variety of music played. My husband lost his cell phone there and it was there the next day. Kudos to the staff as he called his number the next day and it was returned to him by a very nice fellow named Jason. I recommend this club to anyone who wants to dance and people watch. We will be back.

Would like to be here on a Saturday night to really feel the energy. But still had fun.

We often go to Effex for our ClubWaka parties as our spot to host a large group. When we have the club to ourselves, this place is fantastic, we get great service, theres always a DJ and a ton of space. What is always awkward is once the place opens up to the rest of the public and the cover charge starts.Overall, this is one of the best places to go for drinks and dancing in downtown ABQ, but there arent too many places to go in ABQ.

This club has changed over the years and I came out tonight first time in a very long time first I had to wait in a long line in the cold there are no outdoor heaters for customers waiting to get in it was 12:30am and charging $15 to get in and there was nobody special playing and the main dance hall wasent playing music like DJ Chris De Jesus a few years ago and i guess theres the main dance hall and the 2 lounges upstairs I just wasent going to pay $15 at 12:30 so i left and didnt get to hear the dance music I wanted to I guess this club has evolved and thats why there a long line to get in maybe im just old school when Pulse and Blu and AMC and Exhale where around and they dont exist Anymore and the club seen has changed for the younger crowd

First time visiting this club -- and it did not disappoint. There is plenty of chic decor and sitting, for that city lounge feel. The music on all three levels were different, but amazing, so theres something for, just about, everyone. I danced in every floor. (I attended on a Friday night)The crowd is mixed, as far is sexual orientation. I wouldnt consider this a gay bar/club--- but, a place for liberal people. (Sidebar: mostly heterosexual chicks)

The bar tender was awesome and the nachos were fantastic. MY PROBLEM WAS WITH A PERSON IN THE BACK. I had gone to the restroom and decided to look around. The doors were open so I went to the back. I was just exploring when I was approached and told I was being rude to be back there. And that the owners didnt appreciate me being there. That individual made me feel extremely offended. I hope others that go there are not treated as RUDE as I was. Will NOT RETURN.

I can’t believe the cover price. It’s comparable to real clubs in big cities. The whole facility needs a remodel. Although the mid floor and roof area are nice, it’s just awkward! Trying to get around on a crowded night is impossible with standard size doors between the patio and the inside, i don’t understand the wasted space of the hallway after the stairs, the hallway to the patio, or the metal landing to get up to the patio. Totally wasted space. And what on earth is behind the french doors upstairs?The downstairs is totally grungy and unappealing, leaving the other two spaces packed. Pro tip: none of the bar tenders charge the same price for the same drink! It can be different based on which bar or which bartender you go to. I feel like the building should be redesigned to be open, utilizing more space and creating more functional areas or bigger dance spaces.

The music is great

This place has really gone down a lot. I was excited to be back dress up and go out like I did when I lived there. This time it wasnt the same at all. Bartenders didnt know how to make some drinks and the drinks they made werent as great as before. Music was ok. Roof top music was in and out. Before I use to catch myself dancing the night away this time it was more like dance here walk away for 10 mins dance and so on and so forth. Not really a gay looking bar anymore filled with straight people and sloppy drunk girls. But it was a fun place about a year or two ago but now Ill stick with the clubs in Vegas and the valley. Thanks for the memories.

Went there last night with some friends, the atmosphere was great, the music was phenomenal (love that the dance floor is outside, its not as ungodly hot as some of the bars here) and if you go there after 1am, theres no cover. You only get an hour before they close, but hey. Cute people, great atmosphere, fun dancing. Would go again.

This place has gone down a lot! Bartenders didnt know how to make any drinks I requested! For a Gay Club it should be decent, they use plastic cups to make your drink, I asked if I could get a beer from the tap, the bartender said in a snotty voice We dont have that! Very young immature crowd there! For a Gay club I only saw a few gay people the rest were cocky straight guys! This place needs Jon Taffer ASAP!!!!!!

Look.. its Albuquerque. Its the best thing happening downtown as far a a club goes. They have a kick ass sound system, good DJs (not playing Lil Jon- Get low). lots of vibe options. They play loud music.Sigh.. I fell like if you are trying to compare Effex to some sick ass club in SF or NYC.. its going to be a bad rating. Just compare it to the rest of your Albuquerque experience. 5 stars for trying to +1 Albuquerque Effex, good job.

Probably the best spot in town if you like 2 dance , rooftop dance floor is mostly straight. popular with the college crowd. they have edm events here. lounge is chill. mostly gay on bottom floor. drag shows, house music, gogos, cocktails, good sound system. The club is filthy & floors are sticky not good for shufflers. but lots of fun. no point wsisting your time going 2 other clubs.

Had a good time until a security/bouncer started to tell me, yelling to be honest, where I can and can’t stand. At first I thought he was a patron messing with me. I’ve never been to this bar before because I’m from out of state. He had no identification on or even a shirt that would inentify him. I thought he was a street person to be honest. Then he tells me I have to tip the dancer. Well I’m no where near the dancer. Then he tells me if I look at the dancer I have to tip. If their are rules to a bar you should have them in plain site when you walk into the establishment. Long story short, he’s eyeballing me for five minutes plus, then yells “your out of here!”, slaps the glass out of my hand, drink flies out of my hand, and down my back. Out I go needless to say with the help of his ass. I don’t even know how to get out of the place and he’s yelling at me the whole time. First time and last time in that bar. Worst experience I’ve ever had in a bar. I would give it a negative star if I could.

Sorry, gay friendly doesnt cut it, especially when you cater to straights and couples and drunk girls. The events are super straight, the crowd is straight. Oh, and the owners are straight, right winged republicans, that went to Christian College.... Really? The only gay things they do are during gay pride (shady much?)
