This YMCA is the only one in the area that has the most up to date equipment (besides the one in downtown cleveland, they have amazing equipment) and some of the most friendly staffing. The parking is right in front of the building which is so convenient and nice. A wonderful worker named Traci is the sweetest, nicest exercise assistant (physical therapist? Im not sure her title) Ive ever met and she even listens to me vent my stresses. She is very helpful in showing me how to use the equipment as well and spots me when I need it.Im just unhappy they started closing an hour earlier on the weekends this summer.Great YMCA, though. Great staff.

Im a css client and they have a program available for the Y. 4 days a week. I love being able to go to the gym and the place is fantastic

This is my neighborhood gym. Its very nice--much better equipped than most Ys. Its also 100% walkable for my neighborhood, and bikeable for a large number of neighborhoods surrounding downtown.

Really nice equipment the track is a little small but other than that its a great place

While parking could be better (you cant blame them too much due to the construction going on), this YMCA location is awesome. It features plenty of space within workout areas, features rather up-to-date and maintained equipment, and has a nice pool and sauna. Various seating areas and classrooms allow for relaxation as well as niche classes. I do think the Mens Gold room is a silly offering, as the locker room should just be expanded as a whole, but overall this YMCA is one of the better ones in the Akron grouping.

Me and my husband just signed up today. we both have to lose weight. we both have health issues. I think its going to be great. everyone was nice that we talked with very helpful were going back next week to get a tour and start getting healthy thank you YMCA!!!!

I cant use the womens locker rooms the air fresheners are unbearable and way to much If you have breathing issues dont get a membership here

This place is great! It’s clean and the staff are friendly and helpful, and it’s never too busy unless you go around five. This YMCA has a special place in my heart I work out here every day to help beat addiction.

In the beginning this was a good place to go to but now

They no longer allow you to park in the parking deck and force you to scramble for an appropriate spot in the worlds tiniest parking lot. If you dont get a spot there then you are forced to park blocks away in unsafe neighborhoods.

Really clean. Bathroom was nice. The soap smelt really good. Pool was warm especially when its -20 outside!!!! Huge bball court and nice weight room.

Great staff, friendly banter and easy to get along with fellow members. (Especially me).

No complaints other than it doesnt have a steam room and you have to park in the parking garage. Other than that its a decent gym.

As far a workout facilities go, this is a pretty good one. They have lots of options to choose from including bikes, treadmills, free weights, and weight machines. They have a ton of group classes. The only negative point to make is that some of the treadmills are wobbly and the built in TVs dont all work. Otherwise, everything was great. They have a child watch which is super helpful for parents of younger children.

I joined the Y 4 or 5 years ago. The University Park Y IS MY FAVORITE. It is well equipped and always spotless. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a nice lap pool. A warm therputic pool ( limited acess) and a fun pool for kids. Swimming lessons are offered and many other classes. The basketball court is very nice there are all kinds of weights and exercise machines upstairs as well as classrooms and an indoor track.

Its a great place to work out. Lots of different activities. Something for just about everyone. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

I think its a great place to go and do workouts or there classes the people who work there very helpful

The swim lessons are a joke, you pay for 4 to 5 classes and they still cant swim. If you get one of the teens instead of an actual instructor with years of experience your child is screwed for that set of classes. The adult instructors are really good but you wont get them often. Ive wasted so much money

This Y has a pool!!!!! Neee I say more? Also the people at the front were very helpful (thank you chris) and got me signed up and in their system right away. Also there is free parking (just get the voucher when you go in).

This YMCA is very, very nice. Very clean and the staff members are extremely helpful. The equipment is up to date and the pool is very nice. I wish the warm water pool had more open hours and there wasnt a fee if you arent enrolled in a class.

Signed my kids up for a swim class only to be told that they were too advanced for the class. They were supposed to be put in another class, but none were open. I was never refunded for the class or credited for a different period. I waited for over a year and was blown off about it several times.

I like swimming in the 25 yard pool. Nice cool water for serious lap swimmers. They do have a smaller warmer pool for other water workouts. The kids pool area has waterfalls and buckets that dump water. Looks pretty cool to me. They have clean towels, body shampoo in the showers, swimsuit spinners that wring out the water from your swim wear. Desk staff in morning and lunch time are friendly to me.I like this y.Dave

Basketball classes are awesome. Swim classes suck with the younger instructors. Dont do anything but play around and really dont watch the kids, no experience and dont really teach them anything at all. Not even to float. Barberton classes are so so much better. I was amazed how much better, well worth the change from akron to barberton. Front desk staff rude and not helpful especially the guy who thinks hes buff. So rude and unwelcoming.

It was a very nice place, but I felt some workers could use a kindness check. The people I was around were very rude I felt truly upset. My brother was dined from swim because he didnt own swim turncks.like at that point let us swim.

I love the YMCA. it really helps me a lot in so many different ways.i always look forward to my workout and then finishing it some laps in the pool. The people have been very helpful to me when ever I needed there help. I had a seizure there once and they stayed with me till I come to all the way.

We have an autistic granddaughter and have been taking private lessons from Beth. The University Park YMCA is a perfect place for special needs children to take swimming lessons. The setup of the pool and the expertise of the staff are a perfect fit. Highly recommend!

I love it here , .this is the best YMCA in Akron summit . Some cilents gave bad reveiws on front desk staff many of them are young and just starting out in the work force just be patient and courteous with them I sure they are learning all information that can allow your visit to be comfortable and fun.

[Now called Kohl Family Y] Very good Workout experience. Parking in a protected deck (terrific in Winter) is now available for an additional price. Lap pool & therapy pool are present. Dumbells, kettlebells, heavy weight facilities, several types of cycling machines (including recumbent), rectangular running-walking track, temporary and permanent lockers, showering-changing areas, classes are avaiable.

Loved going to this gym,wonderful staff and great pat r on I always had a great time and lost weight but kit got too expensive to continue there and I had to drop my membership after injuring myself...really miss it.

The Y is very nice for your everyday gym needs. They provide towel service and the staff is friendly

Now the Kohl Family YMCA, this gym is conveniently located near downtown Akron with ample free parking for members. Friendly staff, nice equipment, and clean.

It is a great place for the family.

The older African American man that monitors the University Park YMCA courts is a certified bigot. Ive never seen him interact positively with the African American kids that come to play ball there kicking them out and calling the police on multiple occasions where it was neither necessary or warranted.

Just got rushed off the phone from a older male it sounds like and he had a very bad attitude. I just had a few questions and he argued without me even asking the whole question! Very bad customer service!

The staff is the absolute worst, especially the front desk. With the exception of a few staff members, they remainder are uneducated and uninformed about activities and activities happening within their own YMCA. They cannot answer simple questions I ask when I am in, or call.Although benefit the same holding, we are taking our business to the cuyahoga falls YMCA
